If you want the cat to go in the box, it will do everything it can not to ... just leave the box there, open, and the cat loves to sit in it.
I quite like the idea of an A5 ring binder book with (say) 50 pages with space for your own additional pages (maybe downloadable templates?) for trade route notes, etc. I may just do that meself

Reason I'm asking is I'm in the back-end of Wales and i have to make use of mobile broadband with a limited data plan.

I hope there will be a boxed special edition with a map and a sturdy big paper manual etc. Something akin to the big Frontier Elite 2 box that still sits on my bookshelf.
It would be great if I could order it with a nice discount, because I already bought the game once. But whatever happens if they release a good boxed version I will most likely buy it anyway. Being an old fashioned guy I still want the games I truly value as beautiful boxed hard copies.

Not all of them. You had to pledge at least £60 for the standard box set or £90 for the premium box set (+T shirt and paperback Dark Wheel sequel).
IIRC there was also a discussion of some extra goodies like concept artwork being added to the premium box set during the time of the campaign, not sure if anything came of that though.
EDIT: Found this in the kickstarter updates:
When the game is ready for release, I'm sure Frontier will be putting together a retail boxed set to cater for potential customers who would rather not download several GB of data initially.
At that time (or earlier with pre-orders), it would certainly make financial sense for Frontier to offer a boxed set in the online store with an appropriate discount to recent backers who missed the kickstarter campaign but would like a boxed set.

There will certainly be a box version in the ED shop
I wouldn't be surprised if FD was to release a standard boxed version to only be available via their store, but as far as im concerned the premium boxed version is a one of only available to the kickstarter backers.
The ED store is certainly the best distribution channel for Frontier. And the cheaper. I look forward to the premium boxed version ...
It would be nice to get a box version with a manual and some of the other cool stuff you got like in the original.
