Yes, it's certainly not because they want a skillful contest, or exciting gameplay, or a worthy opponent, or to prove their own courage, or impressive achievement, because they don't get any of that. It's not even to impress and get the good opinion of others; it does the opposite of that.

what a shockingly solipsistic viewpoint for why people play vidya

I impress myself.

I get the idea that Solipsistic doesn't mean, what you think it means. The quote you referenced considers thought outside of his own mind. Like why others might justify asymmetric PvP. It even mentions 'the good opinion of others'.

i agree, mining gameplay could be way better. /s

I wouldn't know for sure.
Never done mining.
But the 2 really don't compare... correct me if I'm wrong, but mining doesn't *require* some other player's game to be directly affected in a negative way for someone to feel some "accomplishment"?
Both sound a bit dull to me and entirely without any sense of "accomplishment".

Note to self - must try mining - it might actually provide some sense of "accomplishment".

it in fact means exactly what i think it means, perhaps you should apply some critical thought thanks tho for the effort

I fail to understand and probably always will, but thought that requesting some people to put it down, in writing, would make them think about what it is that they actually get out of it. Kind of like asking someone to "shame themselves", but I see now that some people appear to possess no shame glad. More's the pity.

I fail to understand how what you're pondering will actually be of any value in the game. I'm not convinced you're asking the right questions, but if you're playing in a no-PvP Private Group then I guess it doesn't matter.

Same reason I sometimes gank Haulers.

Because.
I.
Can.

I *could* tie my small dog down and cut his legs off with a rusty spade.

But I don't.

For reasons.

Just because "can" doesn't mean "should" and certainly doesn't elucidate the question I asked, which is "why"...

Just because can isn't an answer for "why".

I'm just being curious, that's all. At least try to explain to me: What is the function of performing such a foregone conclusion? And what is the reason for choosing a non-combat vessel with an overpowered load-out?

I promise I'll try to understand, if I'm able.

Viola, the definition, as offered by Merriam-Webster:

[h=1]solipsism[/h] noun so·lip·sism | \ˈsō-ləp-ˌsi-zəm,

ˈsä-\

[h=2]Definition of solipsism [/h]

: a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing.

also : extreme egocentrism

Neither of those definitions seems to suit the use.

Let's not entertain the idea that blowing up imaginary spaceships is anything like animal abuse, or other real life atrocities.

On the first sentence - that depends entirely on what you *value*.
On the second sentence beginning - I am convinced I'm asking the right question. After all, it was me that asked it and not for you to denigrate my question or my reason for asking.
On the second sentence ending - your guess is entirely wrong and could be for many different reasons, not least of which is that I don't *always* play my game in a no-PvP PG, and second of all, perhaps I might like the notion of playing in Open, but consider this the perfect question to judge my own response.
More analysis required before you try to side-step the question posed with mumbo jumbo, thanks :D

I'm reasonably happy and content, yes.

Just curious as to what Rampant thinks knowing the "why" will help against nearly 3k dps.

That really did cause me to laugh out loud.

Incidentally, reading this thread has made me want to dust off my copy of ED again for the first time in months!

No, let's do just that.

Because I *can* perform such acts on a small animal, but that wouldn't explain the "why" if I chose to do so.

I was not comparing the act, I was comparing that "JUST BECAUSE I CAN" does not explain the "why" that you would choose to do so.

It really is like pulling teeth out here, nobody have the courage to use the words that actually explain why?

Curiosity is getting the better of me. HELP ME

All the above is meant in a nice way :)

I, too, am more than happy to be "content".

Provided, of course, that it be cooperative content in PG Mobius...

For some reason I now have a riff from MC Hammer playing over and over in my head.

Have a nice day

You're suggesting people be shameful for playing a video game as intended?

I value my ship surviving a 3k dps attack.

Your question of "why" is the wrong question here.

"What defences should I use?" or "What resistances are best against frag cannons?" are the questions I would find useful to ask.

No need to insult my posts as "mumbo jumbo" is there?
