LaveCon 2018 QA quick recap

Is there a day 2? Can someone please ask if they've considered putting CQC missions into the game with rewards that scale based on server population?

I am still hopeful that the DSS probes are ammo, rather than limpets. Not enough info to go on from Sandy so it could easily go either way.

I think DW2 launch is scheduled to be shortly after the Q4 update so if the update is moved back then the launch will be too.... <- I think, not 100% sure.

Yep, that is correct. DWE2 will launch after the Q4 update and not before.

Even if they are just normal limpets, since they are synthesizable it's not a big deal. Just fit a size 1 cargo slot and make them as you need them.

That's the issue though. A lot of exploration ships do not have space to fit a cargo rack, at all.

Awesome stuff, can't wait to have it in-game.

I wonder if there's mission improvements as well to make it more fun. What about the Thargoid mothership?

I recall them saying back in October 2017 that exploration improvements would also be tied in with mission improvements. My hope is that they will do away with the 100% procedural nature of Mission Targets (for stuff like Planetary Scans & Salvage Missions) in favour of a more semi-procedural system, where the targets become persistent from a fairly early stage in the mission, & you require actual skill to track the mission target down.

As long as the features aren't depending on multicrew then I'm interested.
Being able to perform the new features in multicrew is fine but they should also be available in full for solo players imho.

We'll just have to wait and see what Q4 brings.
I'm reluctant however.

From what I heard, they won't depend on Multi-crew......but Multi-crew will make it easier & probably more fun. Thank goodness they've decided to add more stuff for people to do in multi-crew outside of combat. Now lets just hope they will also allow for crew-mates to enter SRV's.

Also, I think its high time they gave SLF's very limited Scanner & Cargo carrying capabilities.

Sandro states that when you blanket a planet with probes you will get sensor data to tell you about anything of interest there, this is good. However, he says it will either point us straight to it or leave a breadcrumb trail to it, they haven't worked out that detail yet.

I really hope it's the latter and not the former. I don't want precise locations to simply fly down to and find it, like we currently get now when within 1000ls of a ruin for example. I'd rather have the sensors indicate a search zone of meager proportions, which we then have to work further towards locating our prize. I still think surface heatmaps are the best way to do this.

Still promising though, very promising!

I agree, I've said this all along. I feel this way about mission targets too. I don't want a return to Season 1 to early Season 2 (where you literally had to drop in on every USS/PoI to find your mission target), but I think the system we've had since 2.1 is much too simplified. I believe a half-way point between the two extremes does exist. Where exploration tools can be used to narrow down-but not pinpoint-the stuff we are most interested in finding.

Certainly it's possible. Lightning in nebulas is in my suggestion thread in my signature, I've been asking for it for four years now. I'd bet on it being a precursor to lightning strikes while flying in storms in atmospheric worlds too, even gas giant atmospheres. Shields could absorb a couple hits, after that your taking hull damage! (hopefully)

This is a fantastic sign, very promising IMHO.

The lighting improvements look amazing, and holy frack at those ice planets!!!

If they can create effects like Nebula Lightning......then can they really be that far away from producing land-fall planets that have at least a rudimentary atmosphere? Not Earth-likes perhaps, or planets with very complex atmospheres.....but simple Martian-type planets could surely be a possibility?

I also hope that they're considering making solar ejecta more than a throw-away visual effect, & actually make "solar surface instability" more of a risk to unwary pilots.....particularly those who fuel scoop in a careless fashion. It's also time for Black Holes to get a visual & game-play overhaul IMHO.

Exporation drones! Yeh! This of course will mean they're introducing the orrery map to best plan their routes yes? ...

No. No, this won’t “of course” mean that they’ll introduce an orrey map.

Take what you saw for what it is and don’t jump to premature conclusions. Implying additional and unconfirmed content only sets you (and others) up for disappointment when the content doesn’t arrive and will drag down the enjoyment of what we will get!
So :”Yeh! Exploration drones!” ... and nothing more for now!

You know, as sarcastic is this may sound- it actually bears much resemblance to how skeptical I am at present.

The only thing I've seen mentioned as a "reveal" for exploration specific content in the probes...

Hopefully there's a lot more for Explorers in Q4 than just... probes.

Lighting and color effects... that's an "everyone" category and something that should have already been done.

Oh, I am actually not sceptical at all.
They were showing way more information than I expected at Lavecon.
And what I saw was quite exciting. (Those electromagnetic storms, for example, are definitely “explorer content”, don’t you think?)

It’s just the tendency of some people to build “the perfect game” in their head and the follow up disappointment and angry forum reactions, if reality can’t live up to this fantasies.

For me the disappointment stems from reality not living up to the vision painted in the KS campaign and DDF.

Watched the video and all very pleasing; did some mining for last night and definitely felt jaded after considering what is hopefully down the tracks in Q4.

One thing that did strike me was that I presume the Q&A was vetted; no questions re. Spacelegs, powerplay etc etc that is consuming these forums unless, unless....

Forums are small sample of community. Lot of forumians even don't know Lavecon happened.

Ummm...

Can but joke...

Can but hope...

They specifically stated there were more things they weren't mentioning.
