Leave the Python alone please!

Please FD, don't allow your perspective on the game to be swayed by the same PvP crowd that ruined WoW for PvE, where every character had to be a mirror of the others in terms of abilities and cooldowns. For one thing real life is not like that, imagine if the warships patrolling the gulf could be taken out by a couple of Somali's in a gun boat, because that was balanced and everyone got a fair war!?

1. The Python is a bloody expensive ship, to buy to run and to equip in A class gear, there should be a reward for this massive effort for the player, otherwise you are trivialising that effort.
2. Despite what some PvP players will say there is no way a small ship such as a Viper should be able to take down a Python no matter what gear it has, apart from the cost differential, the reality of a large well armoured ship with a large arsenal should mean it could only be threatened by multiple small ships. In Wings this may become a possibility, but at the moment I accept that if it is the Python Cmdr doing the interdicting/aggression they can pretty much kill anything one to one assuming competence. For this reason;
3. The Anaconda needs a boost, it is insanely expensive and yet is slow and cumbersome. It isn't a trader per se, and I think is supposed to have combat capabilities, it really should be the next 'Python' to aim for.
4. Moving the Python to larger pads would make sense, and I have no issue with that.

In reviewing comments and suggestions on the forums can I ask that FD bear in mind that there are relatively few Python cmdr's compared to other 'fighting ships', and that it seems the majority of these complainers are PvPers in Vipers and Cobras, which by default is a far easier route for a player to go.
I would actually say the main ship that needs balance a the moment from a PvP perspective is the Viper. Cops don't turn up in one car when responding to an aggressive incident they arrive en masse, and thats how they overpower the criminals, its also how gangs operate to perpetuate crime in their 'turf'.

I support the reasoning. PvP crowd always ask for nerf instead of playing the game. The ship has a price that's enough balancing. As far as I know Elite is not made to be a one on one equivalent game.

Definitely. Just because people can take out NPC Anacondas and Pythons in their little Vipers does not mean they should stand a chance against players in a decked out ship that costs hundreds of times as much.

The day a battleship can turn and attack as fast as a destroyer? Dream on. Oh Had one, went back to an ASP, fun knocking down pythons, can't catch me, and soon they are out of shield buffs, then they can't run and hide. BYE BYE Python. LOL

Except the Python isnt a battleship, they are already in game, and the Anaconda is described as a poor mans Frigate. iIf anything the Python IS the destroyer, fast, agile and packing good firepower for its size. A Viper is at best an MTB, nothing more, and again should not have a hope in hell of taking down a well armed Python unless the captain is clueless.

FAIL definite fail pay to win is down the hall, it's gonna be rebalanced, DEAL

Yes! Interfering with the Python is morally injurious to all but those of iron constitution and superior handling skills...and you will go blind

I wrote -> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=101374

Your numbers...

1. Expensive, this means nothing in games, we will farm and grind all the money we need. Well, Python could be so expensive to run, that you are really forced to stop doing A and just do trucking for couple extra hours, then agreed, this would bring balance.
2. I agree, a Viper should never be better than a Python.
3. Anaconda could be better, but this is not everything if you ask from me.
4. Yes, large pad would be ok.

There are more reasons than Viper PvP to nerf Python.

I assume you're just a troll out for some fun, but I'll give a response anyways. I'm not sure what building you're in, but this game has absolutely no pay to win attributes at all. The only thing you can gain with real world money is a skin for your ship. Grow up.

Sorry but an expensive in-game item IS something, because it represents the time and effort someone went to achieve it, that is a measure of reward and is justified. You may say 'just do trucking' but I wonder if you have done it, its boring, and I commit to doing it because it will earn me a reward, not because its fun.
By your logic we should all get the same ship with the same abilities, because there would be no point in grinding/earning credits to get a bigger better ship, if that ship was not better and could be destroyed easily by a ship 150 times cheaper... no I don't think so and I don't believe FD thinks to either, that is not what they have advertised this game as at all. The Python is fine, even though I know they plan to nerf the maneuverability.
It is the Viper which is overpowered for its size and role, especially when upgraded, the ability to carry 2 plasma cannons in a ship that small is ridiculous, its shield rating is out of its class a Viper with a A3 shield has as much as an ASP with a C5 or an E6... thats balanced is it? its like a Jeep with reactive ablative battle tank armour.

+1
Python is good as it is. Even it should be a bit faster - about 10m/s on A6 thrusters.

It is not a godship. It can be beaten by skilled cobra or viper pilot.

I am a PvE player and Python owner and still believe that a Viper should be able to beat a Python or Anaconda.

4. Moving the Python to larger pads would make sense, and I have no issue with that.

With that I have an issue, though, because a) it literally fits on the medium pads with still a small bit room to spare, so excluding it from medium pads would be entirely arbitrary, b) it is one of the unique selling points of the Python that you can still trade with outposts, and c) it would break a very clear line of multi-role ships that hit the limit of what their size can achieve (Cobra = largest small ship, Python = largest medium ship, Anaconda = largest large ship), it would create a gaping whole in the medium league which would need to filled with a ship - brace for it - just like the Python currently is.

...it would create a gaping whole in the medium league which would need to filled with a ship - brace for it - just like the Python currently is.

This makes sense. So in the end, Python needs stat changes.

1. Make it a combat ship
2. Make it a cargo ship
3. Make it a multipurpose ship

BUT do not leave it as everything in one ship.

edit...

Viper is a light combat ship and Python is a medium multipurpose. Combat ships should be better in combat. Viper should be clearly better than a Cobra in combat, do not know why they left those so equal. Maybe Cobra community called a nerf for Viper ;)

I actually think that the devs should review all the ship designs, and think why those ships were made like those were. Give a purpose for those.

Like Lakon Type 7 is a large freighter, that can carry less than a medium multipurpose ship. So why did someone build this kind of ship? Like a company builds a truck and I can load less stuff in it than my neighbour in his van.

I don't agree about bigger ships being invulnerable to smaller ships on 1:1 engagements. It smacks of levelling up syndrome. It should be difficult and risky but not impossible.
Python (and larger) CMDRs shouldn't be feeling immune to risk when they encounter smaller ships. Feeling confident, yes of course, but still with a degree of uncertainty. Invulnerability would detract from gameplay. No ship is the actual top dog, only their pilots are.
I have faith in ED to get it right.

In this generality, I disagree. It should also depend on the ship's "tier":

A Viper should be able to beat a Cobra, given the same skill level of the pilots, sure, but there is no way a 150k-ship should be able to beat a 56M-ship, whatsoever. Maybe in a wing of several Vipers, but not a single one. A Python, or an Anaconda for that matter should be an impossible target for a Viper, even the NPC-Pythons/Anacondas.

Like Lakon Type 7 is a large freighter, that can carry less than a medium multipurpose ship. So why did someone build this kind of ship?

It's a different tier. The Type 7 is limited to cargo hauling, therefor it is much cheaper to buy and to run (fuel). You will find that it's the same with all other ships too:

Cobra has more cargo space and is far stronger than a hauler, because it's a higher tier ship
ASP has as much cargo space and is far stronger than a Type 6, because it's a higher tier ship
...

edit: I agree, though, that the Python should be moved to large landing pads.
