Leaving WP02

So with the CG pretty much done we'll find out soon where WP03 is, then it's time to make like a hockey player and get the puck out of here, but what to take?

Info is vague and ambiguous - It turned out I didn't need to bring all the mining stuff out to WP02 but we didn't know that when we left, now I've know idea about the next CG ( WP07 ? ) - can I dump the mining stuff and go back to an exploration build ?

I'm going to dump my mining gear at Omega Station and outfit back to my explorer setup. Then at Sag A if I can I'm going to pay to transfer the modules out there to help finish the station.

This. I figure my services as a Hull Seal will be more important in the meantime anyway.

I'm going to sell back the extra cargo racks and limpet controllers, revert to a less full-on but still capable mining setup. It'll probably all be available at WP7 and anything that isn't will be added after a few waah-pulse-wave-scanner-waah posts but having made a ship selection on the basis of bringing the mining equipment I'm damn well going to bring it.

Transfering modules from station to station on the way to WP7 is the smart way to go. I'm also glad I have a number of small ships for transport for other purposes because having to pay 100-300M+ transfer your big ship (as other commanders are doing) doesn't really make sense.

This trip is making very clear to my why small and medium ships are needed - at least outside the bubble.

I bought an AspX at the Omega station and made it into an ad hoc mining ship for the CG. I'm leaving it here. Not sure what to expect of WP7. Is that another CG happening there?

The first CG was getting a station in the first place.

The second CG will be outfitting said station (although some basic amenities should be in place).

I'll be storing my mining modules at Omega again given we've been promised we'll have basic outfitting at the new station. So we should be able to transfer modules.

Yup, i'm gonna outfit back to explorer build, leave stuff at Omega and transfer them again to WP7.

Next CG is about getting services up and running at the newly built station, the more tiers we get, the better services it eventually has.
I recon there will initally be only outfitting, refuel and repair services available.

Maybe we should not have set the bar so high in the first CG.....

FD will probably make it a 20 Tier CG next !!

At this stage I am leaving my Annie as a basic miner, so if outfitting doesn't eventuate I can still help with the CG.

She can still jump 65 LY so that's fine.

And I can tinker/transfer the rest if that's possible at the new site.

It needs a Market as well if we're to do another Mining CG...

There is that... I wonder what percentage of the Fleet will have dropped out or is lagging behind by then? The first couple of waypoints are a doddle, but many people who have never been out on a bigger trip underestimate the distances and time involved (even with engineered ships).

There's also quite a few people that came out to help with this CG who are not part of DWE2 - not so much a deterrent at 5KLY out, a bit more at 25KLY..

I'm going to store my mining gear at Omega and switch back to the exploration outfit. Given the fact, that Frontier kept their promise to stock up Omega Outfitting, even adding a shipyard, I am pretty confident that we will have the same Outfitting with full mining gear at the new station when CG2 starts. Judging from what I heared about the talks with FDev they are however very reluctant (to say the least) about a shipyard in the new station. At the moment I would not recommend to make any plans transferring a ship to the new station.
Also we will not get to know in advance which materials we will have to mine for CG2 until the CG starts.

Keep a full mining equipment set as modules that you can use on your current ship. I do this with my Exploraconda and can refit it to mining in circa five minutes when all the modules are in storage at the station where I'm docked.

One thing I am still unsure about is what happens, if the new station is spawned in on the day the CG starts. We'll have to consider a 3-day transfer of the gear from Omega. Probably the next CG will have a slower start. Hopefully the station will be in place earlier.

One guy in our squadron had an accident last night and ended up in back in the bubble. He said it was too far to come back to Omega... I'm don't think he was ever going to make it to Sag A* let alone beagle point. I expect there will be many who drop out. I think only about half made it to Beagle point last time.

It would make sense to plop the station down as a barebones location at least a week before the CG there starts, to prevent too many people from basically waiting in the system already and then have a station magically appear.

I'm really looking forward to this. Someone will be the first one to land there and post screenshots.

I've sold my mining phantom, and reverted to exploration mode in the Adder.

When we get to CG2 I'll store the exploration gear and fit some mining gear. Any bets on how many jumps I make after the CG before I realise I forgot to swap back?

Nothing to stop people turning up even earlier :)

As long as they don't announce where it is then it can silently appear at any point from now, normally they do that sort of change on the Thursday restart, though I don't know if they'll do it this week as the CG is still running, and there is no rush. It needs to be place at least a week before, as the WP7 announcement is on Sunday - so the DW2 organisers need to know where to send people...

I really wonder how this staged construction is going to work in general. Usually a completed station just pops into existence, but here we're going to have a partially constructed station, with a second CG to finish it. Maybe they'll place it as an asteroid base first, then replace it with the final Orbis station? Or maybe it'll just be a docking section with reactor pod on the back, and get a habitation ring and other attachments later?

I just hope they don't cheap out by placing a large/completed station immediately, and have the second CG just add station services. Not a big deal though, since we're only talking about a week, or a few weeks, where it's in the transitional state.

I'll have to think about how I want to participate. I got a nice mining setup on my T9, but I wasn't planning to use that ship for the rest of the journey. I'm tempted, of course. But my plan has always been to use my science-Beluga, so the module transfer and swap is probably what I'll do, and just contribute a little to the next CG.

I think there will be a larger than usual dropout because so many jumped on board after the hype in media. Most signups came after 3.3, and I think that many of them haven't done long-distance expeditions before. It does take quite a commitment.

Its going to be built in 'stages of construction'.

Station core is put in first and it will be very bare bones. That will be in place as we approach the galactic core.

Next stage of construction will begin when we arrive there for the CG, this will look different to the station core phase.

And there will be possibly two more stages of construction during the CG.

Detailed info about it will be announced over the weekend, including info about possible outfitting facilities being online prior to the CG starting.
