Let's make a "Quality of life improvements" list for FDevs

Wow - great stuff folks +Rep

Here's some new ones:

- Show the number of remaining jumps on the bottom left of the forward hud - it gets old having to keep looking at the left panel just to see how many jumps I have left

- Allow all panels to show non-system specific info while in hyperspace - like why can't I edit my firegroups or check my stats in Hyperspace?

- A single button to deploy NPC crew in next available SLF with orders to attack my target

- An indicator (like the one for landing gear) to let me know if my hardpoints are deployed.

- Auto stow everything needing stowing when I ask to jump to supercruise or hyperspace (or at least make it optional to auto stow)

- Optional "Throttle Assist" which automatically reduces thrust to 75% when I'm within 7 seconds of my destination

- Upgradable lateral thrusters so I can spin my ship faster (it's not an airplane)

- Purchase Limpet reminder since rebuy doesn't reload limpets

- Option to purchase lost items in rebuy screen (cargo for missions, limpets, etc)

- Option to cancel launch when you forget something after selecting launch - currently it's quicker to exit to the menu and loan back in then fly out and back in.

- In game Voicechat for more than four people and sharing of location with those people

- When using new FSS, show the distance while zoomed in so I can decide it I want to set as current destination without zooming out and back in

- Attempting to fire guns auto switches hud to combat mode - Like, I really need to fire my guns right now, not play with switches as I'm getting shot up!

I also want to +1 the following awesome recommendations:

- show the entry point distance with the distance to system on the abridged mission display

This is so needed! If I'm looking for missions going to just one or two stations, I have to open up each mission to see what the destination is :-(

- "Load all cargo" for missions

YES! And "deliver all cargo" too! Sorely needed

- Make all outfitting animations optional

PLEASE! Sometime I'm in a rush and want to skip them :-(

- Show target system in Mission list in the Target panel

NEEDED! Why do we have to open each to find this now :-(

- Wing Beacon ON by default

OMG! Stop turning my Wing beacon off! Please, can you just remember my settings and keep it?

- buy all / sell all buttons

AMEN! Or if that is too hard, PLEASE list the things I have in my cargo hold first.

- Keeping cargo in stored ship

ABSOLUTELY! How many times have I had to dump a bunch cargo just so I could do some combat with friends. This would also be a nice way to store up materials needed for larger goals.

- rename "slow down" to "gravitation effect"

One of my pet peeves, and something that confuses new players. Slow Down should only show when you are nearing your target and are under 8 or 9 seconds of your arrival time.

- add an actual "time-to-target" as a second line to the current, simplistic "speed/distance" timer

This would be awesome

- A placeholder character to put in the cold vacant seats in the cockpit.

I like it. You know, if they can't "auto generate" NPC avatars, why not let us create Holo Me avatars for our NPC crew?

Like, I hire a crew person as normal, but I then get to create them an avatar in Holo Me which the system then places in a seat in my cockpit.

- Ability to alter routes/add waypoints in a route in Galaxy map

Multi-waypoint routes would be awesome.

- why can't I order new modules or ships ( i.e. ones that I don't already own) to be transported to my location for a similar fee + the purchase price?

This would be so cool - I keep flying back to Jameson to buy stuff :-(

-Redesign mission descriptions to shift all the crucial details to the TOP of the window

Please - with half of them I have to sroll down to see details

-Request docking. Single button.

Seconded!

- make docking computers integrated like the discovery scanners have become

PLEASE!

- give the integrated docking computer the ability to assist with undocking

Would be nice for new players too

- A Flight Vector indicator

And make it always visible in normal (non-FSD) flight!

Fly Safe CMDRs!

Grey

show the type of Star in the system I'm jumping to in the Navigation panel while in Hyperspace

show the remaining number of jumps to destination in the Navigation panel while in Hyperspace

enable the right-hand menus during Hyperspace jump (though the Modules tab would need to be read-only so some messer doesn't try turning off their FSD mid-jump)

in outfitting, allow for free-form viewing of the ship... most of the time I can't tell where, on the ship, I'm looking at because FDev decided they should zoom in on the component (hardpoint, utility, etc) so far as to make it impossible to tell where it is on the ship

While many of the proposed options for possible QL improvements separately looks very appealing, the entire list gives that strange impression as like adding another option "let's get rid of all those graphic and audio effects - they are too time and computational resource consuming - leave us with just simple spreadsheet" also lays naturally in that list. Imo there must be some balance between "quality of life" and "immersion" ;)

Non existing new feature request for gaming immersion with a Star Citizen/X4 Space Leg update. Add this as a new feature to create 3D space station/planetary station interiors for your 3D holo Me avatar Cmnder to interact with. This would allow you to walk around inside generic 3D interiors of existing planetary and space station interiors. i.e. one generic interior for each existing space station type as making unique interiors for all space stations wouldn't be feasible. Basically:

  • Be able to exit your space ship in the hangar.
  • Store your ship the way it currently works in game inside hangar. The only difference this time around, allows player to
  • STAND UP and exit their pilot seat on their new space legs. Then
  • Open the ship hatch to exit ship inside hangar which launches a loading screen.
  • At end load screen, player finds themselves teleported inside the starport/space station with several choices:

Player can then walk to an NPC concierge service desk and use credits to rent a room. Then go directly to their room to either log out or hang out/change clothing etc. This room feature would automatically register the player at the station if the player uses credits to rent a room. It creates a virtual room in this transaction and provides several services. Each room is equipped with a bed (for immersive log out purposes), the space craft Holo Me customization suite, a radio for streaming music of the player's choice, computer terminal which is same as the player lounge cafe net terminals (see below). The Cmder can use the Holo Me closet to equip clothing. and allow players to change their hair, appearance, change from space suit to civilian clothing etc. The system deletes this registration and player room once the player's ship leaves the hangar.

Or

Player can walk to a centralized player lounge which has both players & NPCs. Here player can have change of pace from cockpit through a
more immersive gaming experience where they can

  • [*]relax, hangout and interact with other players
[*]interface with potential NPC contacts. These contacts are the NPCs you interact with in your contact mission panel. But in the space station, these NPCs are located in different parts of the station. e.g. the Smuggler NPC contact is in an undisclosed part of the station (which you'll need to tip an NPC like the bartender. And also unlock the Black Market feature first before being able to find them).
[*]participate in virtual 3D gambling at NPC tended tables ie. play galactic poker, blackjack etc against other NPC or other players
[*]place bets on space races with a Pit Boss NPC to gamble on ship races by other players and NPCs. This feature would work best in a PvE group
[*]place bets on arena mode based PvP events

Or

Player can head to the food court section in this centralized player lounge area. Use credits to buy/eat food. Tip food service NPC for local gossip that can lead to missions (eg mining high resource sites etc) if player investigates an area etc.

Or

Player can head to the bar section in this centralized player lounge area. Player can hang out at bar and buy drinks. Bribe or tip the barkeep with credits for information. While possibly picking up station/sector gossip on potential bounties, smugglers, snippets of Power Play political news that affect that area. Or local space station news in the sector like where good/best high resource sites may be possibly located. Which helps players who lack map/cartographic data in that area of space and/or are too broke to buy map data. This gives poorer or adventurous players a lead about the general space sector location where such potential resources may exist (without having to pay for it by a map).

Or

Player can head to a computer cafe section in this centralized player lounge area. The info on this computer is same as the computer inside the player's rented room. This section is part new feature:
Adds a virtual Wall Street stock market to the commodities market. Players can speculate on commodities stocks and drivers like political play in the region which drive stock if they're broke and down on their luck. Player can interact with computers to

  • browse local Galnet news articles
  • plan their next trading route
  • buy/sell goods for their ship's cargo hold (which are automatically transported once they get back in their ship)
  • speculate on commodities trading based on current commodity prices on the Galaxy stock market
  • pick up passenger transport missions
  • pick up non political courier data and other non political/non faction/non security related oriented missions.
  • send electronic/email transmission to players in their star systems. These other players may be in their ships or on other planetary/orbiting bodies as long as they are in the same groups/wing in that same star system. A player can also make requests to other Cmnder to add them to their PG lists. Or post/join an ad hoc wing mission board posting at these terminals.

The computer cafe is also part old feature i.e. is a port of the existing Galnet News, and all non political/non faction oriented missions like passenger transport, courier missions etc. All which are lumped together in the existing ship's system panel.

Or

Player can walk to crew lounge to recruit NPC pilots/crew

Or

Player can seek out station contact NPCs (the immersive alternative to passively interacting with them on ship menus). These NPCs are located throughout the station. So security mission based NPC would be in the local station HQ. The black market NPC would be in a shady, not obvious part of the station (player gets tips from barkeep where). These NPCs give player the more faction, power play, militaristic/politically motivated, subterfuge type missions. So the existing contact mission menu on your ship is basically visualized and separated to physical representations in the space station interior. Makes it eaiser for the player to determine which missions are power play/political faction oriented missions (skimmer missions, interdiction of pirates/military craft, smuggling etc) from independent type missions (like data courier, passenger transport). This sort of direct NPC interaction should be the only way the player can begin to gain influence and rise in a political faction.

The whole reason for a space port interior expansion is to provide players with diplomatic immunity at a space station (so one practical use is if a player is wanted or from an opposing power play faction in hostile enemy territory). The interior area would provide players with an alternative, immersive in game options for being a space commander. i.e basically provide a great way to escape being a paraplegic Cmndr on your ship. If you want to do several missions, or remain at that station/planetary body for whatever explorer, bounty, mining, trade, smuggler etc reasons, this would be a practical way to do it. For example, you PvP and murdered another player or NPC. One way to avoid authorities detaining/destroying your ship, is to rent a room at a station. Hide out/hang out at said station to time out a bounty or criminal warrant. Use that time to explore the planet surface area while waiting out bounty. Speculate credits and possibly amass wealth by gambling on trading commodities on the galaxy market. So 3D station interiors are nice, immersive ways to add variety to the one-stop-shop mission menu feature currently in your ship.

Odds are those Cmders who made the odyssey to Hurston would totally appreciate something like this. Being able to hang out in a 3D lounge bar area with their friends. Easier access to trading black market commodities and/or buying ship upgrades at a services desk. Basically take an in game break. Instead of being stuck in their pilot seat and having to jump the voyage back again....

It provides an alternative and fun immersive way to get contact missions, meet interesting NPCs for potential missions/information resource tips, or a RPG way to log off the game (via your rented room if you're too broke or don't want to sleep/log off on your ship).

Basically make all those cockpit mission/NPC contact menus real 3D places. With real 3D NPCs you can hangout & interact with. Interact with said NPCs for missions to wing up or go solo. Instead of having to always fiddle/shift through nested menus.

Need space legs. For space interiors. Because Space legs. Works just like here in X4 Frontier

Similar to how the player is able to walk around their ship, get off their ship bunk, exit your ship, store your ship, walk around station etc. in this 2019 state of the game fan boy review.

Because. ED is in desperate need of SPACE LEGS. Especially for surface missions where you need to use your SRV. Despite all it's pre-alpha state of the union bugs, this is one feature/concept of a space sim that Star Citizen gets 100% right. Don't mind the bugs btw. Fan boy treats this current pre alpha state of the game as though it's a beta. Since that will be coming in 2098. So just focus on the joy of space legs.

Consistency in UI confirmation dialogs especially in Outfitting and Trading. In Outfitting there are to many confirmation dialogs during transferring, swapping, less sub menus please and standardisation of menu actions.

The UI delivery confirmation menu of cargo is clunky and annoying, and the delivery counter sometimes pauses at 1 even if the button is held down, one has to release the button for the counter to continue, annoying. Too many dialogs for a simple procedure.
When buying a commodity the commodity counter's behaviour is akin to playing "whack a mole", need to load 253 of a item have fun with the micro game play of overshooting and undershooting the target value, *sigh* so annoying. Please F-Dev if I've stacked three missions of 'Consumer Goods' of quantities 150, 199, and 273 either automatically display the sum of those three in 'Buy' OR please make it easier to select those exact quantities without playing 'whack a mole' with the buy counter.

When selecting refuel in advanced maintenance make the default cursor highlight "Refuel 10%" and not Refuell All. Refuel All can be done on the Main page so why default the cursor to Refuel All in Advanced Maintenance.

"Docking Request", something which utilised so bloody often is buried, why?.

Add a waypint/destination 20 second alert light or the 'Time To Destination' to displays when not in standard view, this would be handy when browsing/reading information on long super cruises.

Decrease Mission Panel loading times.

Please add an estimate of currently unsold discovery data in left side panel - Transactions - "Claims" page. Just a single entry will do, approx total value no need for any sort of counters or openable list or anything.

Enabling a list of 1st discoveries and/or 1st Mappings within the statistics or mark them in GalMap.
Refining the route Planing tho have (a limited number of) via Points to plot my course throughout the Galaxy.

Regards,
Miklos

A way to reset the cargo/mat filter in bulk..... reset all. rather than the 1 at a time method now. ie, find something that doesn't show on the radar, target it and then de select for that item..... reset all already,

please with a cherry on top

Allow "Select Target Ahead" function in SRV when not in Turret Mode.
Have a visual representation of scanner progress when scanning from the SRV.

i kinda feel like both things exist already...

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

Recently spent some time getting Guardian designs, and when not in turret mode, the "Select Target Ahead" button did nothing when I pointed at materials on the ground, so I had to use my left panel.

Also, when I was in turret mode data-link scanning the Guardian orb thing that pops up when you drop the ancient relic, I thought nothing was happening because I didn't hear a scanning sound or see a scan progress meter on the HUD.
It was only by luck that I kept my hand on the scan button until I was notified that it was done.

Will have to check again.

- Optional "Throttle Assist" which automatically reduces thrust to 75% when I'm within 7 seconds of my destination

Multi-waypoint routes would be awesome.-Request docking. Single button.

Seconded!

As explorer i say it would be great!

Also two ideas from me:

-Opening map directly from DSS and FSS [now they need to be closed first to open map, why just opening map won't close the scanners automatically?]

-Information about fuel reserves and need to refuel on route is only a little piece of plain text, please make it more like warning screen.

Add a cqc button to the main game either in ship or in stations

isn't cqc the arena? which is available in the start section of the menu.

i feel like adding too many buttons to the menu would wind up being worse for the ui. kinda like information overload :)

You can´t be serious about this.
1. Change the minimum pledge time to 8-12 weeks. Absolutely idea right now it´s ok as it is
2. Maintain at least rank 2 (or 3) for the last half of the minimum pledge period. I can agree with this
3. No replacement of PP modules upon rebuy if you have changed Superpowers (Fed/Emp/All). You can´t be serious

Right now it´s so much time consuming and you want to make it more time consuming ? I think that´s a horrible idea.
I would only understand if the powerplay modules were really OP. There are only 2 usable modules AdPA and Prismatics but prismatics are usefull just for some situations because their recharges are horrible.

Another idea: When choosing rewards from missions as tradable items or engineering materials we could see how many of them we have in storage already.
