Let's make Elite great again.

"The big one, Factions. Allow players to create their own Factions, letting them build and maintain their own Stations and Outposts throughout the galaxy."

Though I personally love this kinda thing, I feel it appears to be more of a "Make Elite = EvE" kind of idea which does not appear to be inline with the vision of Elite or its direction. Historically, it seems ED has always been more FD (or Braben's) idealised vision rather than the whims and preference of the playerbase paying for it.

(I envisage Braben is to spaceship video games as Gene Roddenberry was to Sci Fi TV series.)

This is an awesome piece of text. I really almost agree to everything OP proposes here. This stuff is bound to make fun and sense, it it really is what I believe that ED should be.

Big thumbs up for OP in taking time to write this down. Great Ideas, great suggestions. I really hope FD will consider what has been said here. That would make ED great!

They already exist and some are even in the game as minor factions. The trouble a lot of people have is they mainly exist outside of the game as messageboards, beyond picking up missons from them there's little real in game support of these factions. But they are there tecnically.

I agree that it would be nice to have the ability to somehow invest our money into something. Building an outpost, a station, a "home" on some planet, creating a market, investing into something meaningful, founding a faction or anything. That way we could more effectively support other factions or superpowers, or create goals of our own: helping refugees, freeing slaves, hunting pirates with a whole fleet of soldiers etc. That would be fun.

Other than that, I think the rest of the wishlist will slowly be implemented into the game, but it will take many years. The developers don't have the capacity to rework the whole game at once - we like to forget that this is a small independent studio, not EA or Activision. And this, what we have now, is basically their (and David Braben's) vision. I'm sure they would like to do tons of things but it takes time. And apart from all this, we want atmospheric landings, living planets, walking around, more ships, more SRVs, aliens, more story etc... The scope of the project is just too big. We have to accept that the devs have limits and they can't do everything immediately. The game has come a long way since its release and I'm sure it still has a long way to go.

Read the whole post, agree with much of it. On the idea of player factions and player faction owned bases my concerns are two fold. Even the smallest outpost is larger then the largest ship, so it stands to reason that the costs for building one would be much higher, especially if we are billing this as an end game feature. The smallest of these should cost in the hundreds of millions and the largest in the hundreds of billions. The revenue they generate should be partly based on the services offered and partly based on the quantity of serviced customers or traffic volumes, which would be a derivative of the background simulation and player traffic.

I was really referring to the "Player-owned Stations" than the 'factions' themselves.

Sorry but with a title like that I can't take it serious, or even be bothered to read it.

As much as I despise the title being associated with Trump there are some really good ideas here and it would be a shame to not build upon them just because of the thread title.

Geebus. I couldn't get through it all, can someone just reassure me: are the Rostovs ok in the end? Does Pierre develop into the character we see in him?

Sorry Op, I did read the TLDR version at least but I don't know how representative that really is given the....generousness of the post. Condensed so it sounds like missions are boring, you want to build things in space, and we need guilds.

Heblablablabla!

Ok, read the missions to CG stuff, and It's more interesting that your tl;dr indicated. Still there's something to be saiid for a nice simple "go kill this guy" or "we need a data courier asap!" So maybe it shouldn't replace missions, just increase the number of CGs 1000x

Rank, mmmmmm maybe, but I'd rather have a Naval career rather than "achievement unlocked: 10,000 tons of fish delivered, we're calling you a lord now"

Afraid to totally lost me at end-game. Your endgame and mine sound very different. MYbe that's a minority opinion though, so no comment.

The OP gives good ideas, but honestly Im terrified of how these attempts would be implemented, they cant fix the current basic missions system,Im preety sure somehow it would make even more grind then now.

Saw this on reddit too, Totally agree with all points

Especially love the idea of the player run minor powers, this game really shines through in the community stuff like DW, Fuel Rats, etc, make this part of the core game!

Is it just me or would anyone else rather FD sorted out the game as it stands, rather than keep coming up with these huge new developments that don't really work? Each time they completely change the way the game is played before I even get used to it as it is. I know a lot of you live and breathe this stuff but I haven't got 100 hours per week to play, although I enjoy it when I can. There's just no choice given to us whether to adopt these updates or not.

For instance I'm still off exploring because every time I left a station in the Bubble I got blown to pieces by an npc, even in a heavily-specced python. If people want the challenge of a life-or-death battle every time that's fine but why not have selectable npc power levels?

I'm just saying I'm still trying to cope with the updates from a few months ago and there have been huge changes since then, a lot of which don't make the game more enjoyable and just introduce more bugs.

Stop doing all this "clever" stuff and de-bug what you've already got. I don't think you're attracting any new players - in fact the learning curve is probably now so steep they're put off immediately.

Just saying............

TL;DR, sorry. After a short glimpse it's about every single complaint in here for months in one block. Not only unreadable but frustrating as hell.

Thanks for the effort, though. Although I don't think 1% of it will find its way into FDev's future plans. It's ridiculous.

Using Trump's saying seriously...ugh. I wish that trend would die.

1. Rework Group/Private/Solo mode. The best option is Open and PvE mode, without possibility to switch (or with very long timeout) and shared galaxy.
2. Disable relogo.
3. Rework crime and punish system to make ganking pointless.
4. Add at least 100 ships.
5. Add cooperative content.
...100 ships?

Seriously, it took the OP 4 hours to write this. Is it too much to take 15 minutes to read it and not moan about it? It's not a wall of text and is very easy to read. The OP brings up some really interesting ideas! I love the idea of player factions!

Can I pay a CMDR some credits to provide me with a TL;TR please?
Thank you o7
(I vote yes anyway because he looks smart...very smart)

Ah I found it - at the very end. Did he really say ?
