Let's play: Realistic Vs. Exotic

Southern lion vs. West african lion - imma be honest, I didn't know there were so many lion subspecies other than African and Asian, so they're the same to me

There are actually only two. The southern and the northern. The west african is a subpppulation of the northern subspecies (which includes the asian). Frontier's choice in this case is... questionable.

Then it should be renamed to simply African lion, then, right? It'd be much simpler, more flexible

Neat thread!

Bennet's wallaby vs. Yellow-footed rock-wallaby
Eurasian lynx vs. Iberian lynx
Asian small-clawed otter vs. Giant otter (all the way, 100% ASCO).
African penguin vs. King penguin
Grey seal vs. Harbor seal
Nile crocodile vs. Saltwater crocodile
Grey langur
vs. Proboscis monkey
White rhino vs. Black rhino
Emu vs. Southern cassowary*
Southern lion vs. West african lion
Llama
vs. Vicuña
Eurasian brown bear vs. Himalayan brown bear
Greater flamingo vs. Carribean flamingo
Baird's tapir vs. Brazilian tapir

how about adding the red deer and the fallow deer? the red deer is atleast in europe not uncommon, but not nearly as close to the baffling stupid amount of presence the fallow deer has. I would vote fallow deer btw ;)

I want both. To me, that would be like having to choose between a jaguar and an ocelot or between a kangaroo and a wallaby.

I'm hesitant, because while the fallow deer answers the "common" category, the red deer is not "exotic" IMO, in that its main draw is being common in zoos, not unique/rare.

Well, I know it's only an anecdote and not the rule, but My Local Zoo™ has 6 "exotic" species and just 5 "realistic" species, so I don't fully agree on the categories of that list 😁

Baird's tapir vs. Brazilian tapir

I specially disagree with the tapirs, not only Baird's is endangered and objectively less common, but there are only 2 zoos in Europe with them, and +150 zoos with Brazilian tapirs... I know in the US there are more zoos with Baird's than Brazilian, but I'm not sure if in such a disproportionate ratio to think that Brazilian is the less realistic choice (and I know even less about tapirs on others zoos worldwide).
