News Let's talk about Gnosis and the Cone Sector

This was the most stupid thing what FD has ever done to the community. This change to the Gnosis showed how broken your game is.
That's the point where I will stop playing this game after 1000+ hours.

The Gnosis incident diverted the community from Zac's Q4 update post, I wonder what Frontier are going to do to divert from the Gnosis incident? :(

This game was sold as an MMO from the start.

Old school Elite but multiplayer, wow.
That was my reaction a few years ago having played the original on a ZX Sectrum.

This game is not even Elite anymore, it just kind of looks like it.

ED IS an MMO technically. It is also more of an MMO than say warthunder (also marketed as MMO)

However David Braben himself said from day 1 that ED is not aimed to be an MMO in the generally accepted sense.

I am not defending everything about ED. FAR from it .... But I did not KS an MMO. I kickstarted a new elite game with some optional multiplayer components along with a BGS that we all influence indirectly

Old BBC Elite player myself... The main reason I bought the current version of Elite was because there was an option to avoid the MMO aspects entirely (i.e Solo mode), as I have zero interest in that sort of thing in my leisure time. I can understand others do like it, and any additions in that direction would be great for them and the game as a whole, as long as the well-defined concept of all content being available to people in Solo is maintained. (Obviously, it would make no sense to add fleet-comms, or other player interaction / mmo support to Solo, but assets / objects / etc should be there)

Unfortunately this.

If I ignore things from Engineers onwards I can still play Elite (Lite). I just guess I'll still be able to play in the future but just be bypassing/ignoring FDevs CONTENT(tm). and certainly wont be spending at their store

All this did was convince me and 5 of my friends to go spend $50 each in the FD store...

Yes that is the idea but ED sometimes really sucks, after seeing this petition I had to celebrate and buys something truly awful... like iridescent paintjobs for my ships.

Good call. Just went out and did some shopping too.

I sincerely hope you're just trolling, because this is not the sort of behaviour we should be rewarding. Whether you disagree with the specifics of this particular instance or not, you're rewarding FDev for lying to players and wasting a massive amount of their time. Fanboyism is not healthy because it gives a buffer for the company to act unreasonably toward other paying customers knowing the fanboys will make up for any losses they suffer.

Frontier respects its customers.

But their communication has always been a weak point in the company

A company that respects their customers treats them with respect, and that involves two-way communication.

as long as the well-defined concept of all content being available to people in Solo is maintained.

Sorry, I can't agree with this. Things like Powerplay and the attendant rewards should be a carrot for participating in the same galaxy as everyone else. The idea of players being able to hide in Solo and have their actions affect players in Open is absolutely abhorrent.

And you're welcome to disagree :)

I also agree that having someone in solo affect a wider game isn't really ideal. I would suspect that people who want solo for the reasons I do have little interest in factions, powers, or anything else. All I would really want is the same content in the form of assets etc to play with - after all, if a person in solo has huge-mega-weapon X which is available from power Y, that doesn't affect anyone at all. Influencing or improving a power / faction does, of course, and that is what probably irritates people who want to play open and enjoy strategic power games against others.

I get the feeling that there are really several games jammed into one pot, that is perhaps something that does not work well, and is probably a design decision that causes multiple headaches now.

The ideal solution would be to have "two" servers, where people who play solo don't get to influence anything on the "open" server. That is going to be far easier said than done, though :(

Your view is respected and understood, commander o7 Please don't assume that all solo players are "hiding" in order to get some meta advantage over those in open though, it certainly isn't the case for me. I just want to have the richness of the game available to me without any human agency getting in the way.

Safe travels! o7

Indeed, could go horribly wrong. The economy doesn't really provide a decent cr per hour for those at end game without board flipping. The rebuy on my Corvette is staggering.

Umm. I fly one way missions out of Founders (my current home-base, you can't get missions from surrounding bases into SD). I can easily make 20m cr + in an 1-1.5 hours with minimal effort and without the need to flip the boards. I have a fleet of 11, with 2 being top end ships, all engineered and A rated and still have 1.6Bn cr in cash. I play in open.

Oh no. Just the ones who do PP from Solo. Didn't mean to suggest that all Solo players are hiding, some folks just want to play a single-player game - but someone playing a single-player game shouldn't have access to the online, collaborative parts of the game.

I've been saying for the longest time that what the game needs is the ability to have multiple player characters per account, it would fix so many fundamental problems. Solo could be played on a completely separate character. Federal and Imperial naval rank could be made mutually exclusive and allegiance could actually mean something without the choice gating off ships from the player. Etc.

Then why haven't they apologized?

At the start of this thread they have already:

"We would like to thank all of the Commanders who have provided their feedback – and pledged to aid the Gnosis in its defence against the alien threat and the terrifying new Thargoid variant. We would also like to take this opportunity to apologise for the confusion and bugs within this event but we are hugely grateful to the many thousands of Commanders who came together to make the event possible and become a part of history."

Hey, that's a good thing.
