News Let's talk about Gnosis and the Cone Sector

Right, someone should lose their job because a thing in a game didn't go the way you wanted. Grow up.

To be fair, if a senior employee makes decisions that alienate a large proportion of the customer base of one its core products and therefore jeopardises the companies revenue stream then this is exactly why people are and should be fired.

Hey Rainbro,

Just to clarify from the post above.

The area of space (Cone sector) that the Gnosis was aiming to jump to was never a location that was able to jump to. This is because the location is specifically meant to be used for future narrative. That's the reason why the initiative from the community was weaved into the actual lore of the game.

Thanks,

Zac

Are you sure? Sorry I know you know way more than me, but I've been told that Steve Kirby mentioned that there were 3 systems we'd be able to explore while there, and that there was going to be something interesting there, implying that it really was going to happen. "I've been told" means I don't have a source, but I doubt I was lied to. Supposedly in a live stream?

Can you check this is actually true and not an internal miscommunication? Because the implication is that we were deliberately mislead, I personally spent about 3-5 hours getting my alt up to jump worthy range and then 90 jumps to the Gnosis, I really don't believe that this was all a prank by FD. Not being sarcastic either, I know you guys wouldn't do that. It doesn't make sense either, because unless we have guardian mods, we can't even participate in the Thargoid attack, so it really doesn't add up.

I guess the other explanation would be that it was never FD that said that, and I was misinformed and I guess many others were too.

I work on ERP systems :)
...

Ouch!:)
Good reason to go into ED's universe with its foreign currency, manufacturing, financials, warehousing and insurance. Even mining![money]

It's easy to tell someone their job is easy; even when that job is to please me!:p

Even in virtual space one has to breathe.:x

Actually we're customers.

If enough of us like what they want to sell us we'll buy it and they will profit from it.

If enough of us don't, they will go out of business.

It's not personal either. It's a numbers game.

I wasn't involved with this event at all. I'm quite an enthusiastic Canonn member but I've been distracted by that other space game for the past few weeks so I've only been watching this unfold from the sidelines.

I feel a bit sorry for Canonn. They've got a fair bit of flak for this that I don't think they deserve.

I also feel a bit sorry for FDev in a way. *ducks* No wait... hear me out.

It's been a tough couple of weeks for them, especially their Community team, what with Q4 announcements and now this. Now, I'm not a 'White Knight' by any means, if criticism is due I'll give it.
[Qualification - A big part of my day job is criticising other people's work and to me criticising doesn't mean trashing. I believe the old adage "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" can be equally applied to criticism - you just swap the word 'nice' for the word 'useful'.]

I feel a bit sorry for FDev over the Gnosis debacle because I think they were essentially planning a surprise party. It didn't work out because first of all, somebody spoiled the surprise, but they also made a terrible error in the party planning... they didn't make sure that the people they were planning the party for actually wanted the kind of party they were planning.

Ultimately they gave the players what many had been asking for for a long time - a live Thargoid attack on a major base or installation, and they undoubtedly thought they were doing a really cool surprise new thing. The main problem was that, because of all the subterfuge, misdirection and apparent misinformation surrounding the party, they ended up with most of the people who would normally love that type of party not being invited... and the people who were invited being mostly the types who wouldn't be seen dead at that sort of party ...and worse, those people found themselves stuck there unable to leave.

I think they were trying to do a nice thing, but it went horribly wrong in a number of ways. Nice try guys, better luck next time, I'm sorry it didn't work out.

My constructive criticism?
1) In future, make sure all your party planning team are on the same page (and the same schedule).
2) Try and get to know your party-goers a little better.

That's your opinion.

My opinion is that FD conned us explorer into something that FD WOULDN'T deliver.....end of!

There was no con as FD never explictely said you would get there and gave a massive hint that you wouldn't by permit locking the systems. Not my or FDev's fault if you ignore whats infront of you and then complain when it hits you in the face.

Can't remember the last time you actually participated in something you have commented on.
He is not dead yet.:)As large as the ship is its not that difficult to calculate how effective it is.11,000 x12.56 = current jump range in ly,instead of the 11,000 x 188 ly expected/ hoped for.Only the captain knows the true capability of his craft,so we may never know the full manifest,.

At some point the game may finally get a community event like the one we were expecting with the Gnosis and the sad part is that no one will attend now because Frontier has damaged community trust. Personally, I barely had the minimal amount of faith left to prep and show up for this event. I was actually excited not to see what Frontier would do (because I expected almost nothing from them in this event) but rather was excited to see what the community would do given a potential "Lord of the Flies" situation of being stranded in the Cone Sector. To have even that taken away from us is a gut punch for sure.

Of course they will, depending on the circumstances. It the Gnosis or other community event tries to jump into a permit locked area we now know what to expect. It will be a no instead of a unique scenario which the Gnosis got. What a shame.

But on 29/08/2018 11:23 AM some Will Flanagan insisted that "the jump to the cone region is still planned". Hmmmmm anyway

Yes planned, but not necessarily successful. Canonn could have stoped and changed but they decided to continue so FDev decided to add some excitement to the proceedings. Its a shame as I doubt it will happen again thank to some ungrateful people.

That would imply that FDev actually test things before putting them into production. Anyone who got shot down by the Gnosis while trying to defend it can testify that they don't.

What I'm saying is that this is the test - they now know if they have mega-ships/carriers (or stations) being attacked, they have to disable the no-fire zone or no one will be able to effectively defend it. (You might say it was perfectly obvious, yes. But if you were to put together a checklist for this jump, you might not have put that on it).

Frontier's latest Elite Dangerous Tweet:

We'd like to congratulate the brave Commanders who, over the last 24 hours, have managed to face and kill several Thargoid Hydras. We'd also like the celebrate the discovery of a new barnacle field, found near the downed Gnosis!

Seems kinda tone-deaf to me.

I understand PR has to put a positive spin on things, but....
