Lifetime pass and general update questions

But you did not mention neither Horizons nor the Beta access which you did not have. Only "cosmetics". That was disingenuous misrepresentation on your part about what the 2015 LEP has given already: the base game (unless you already had it), Horizons, and the Beta access. Not just "cosmetics".

Good grief. Go re-read the post of mine you linked to.

How's it going? What will it be? Are we still on track? Is there a less vague ETA than the second half of next year yet? Is there an intention to supply sufficient premium content to make the purchase of a 2015 LEP worthwhile?
Most of these questions don't make much sense.
'How is it going?'
Good.
'What will it be?'
They probably don't know 100% themselves yet.
'Is there a less vague ETA than the second half of next year yet?'
Probably not.
'Is there an intention to supply sufficient premium content to make the purchase of a 2015 LEP worthwhile?'
Isn't that completely subjective?

And importantly, if FDev are unwilling to be as forthcoming as they were, when can we expect to receive refund offers for the LEP value not yet redeemed?

Actions speak louder than words. In the absence of actions, I'm looking for words. And in the absence of words, I'm looking for the option for that unredeemed value to be returned. This has gone on far too long to expect customers to continue to just wait without chasing up progress or wanting to back out of what has turned out to be a very poor deal.
I believe you don't really understand what you bought, which is unfortunate but nothing you can blame on someone else. There is no 'LEP value not yet redeemed'. You bought access to all upcoming expansions of Elite Dangerous. That's it. Could be 2, 3 or 4 and the LEP value would be redeemed in every case.

Why do you think they put the LEP back on sale in 2015?

Because the plan at the time was for there to be enough DLCs to cover the cost. Then the plan changed. These thing happen, no hard feelings, just offer to reimburse the customers if they aren't happy to wait longer, or have a go at persuading them to stick with it. Problem solved.

Great. Now, asuming not much changed within the few weeks the 2015 LEP was on sale (August to September if memory serves), why do you think they took it off sale only after those few weeks instead of, say, keeping it available sine die?

You were misrepresenting what you have already got from the 2015 LEP.

no, he wasn't. you are.

There is not much confusion about this, unless you want to artificially create it.

really?

if you emit a lep at a time when updates are called "seasons", with roughly yearly periodicity, talk about a 10 year lifespan (not plan) of the product, then suddenly drop the "seasons" model, sprinkle a few "free" updates which are basically rounding up of the last season and start talking about dlc, but do not put any dlc out for years ... yes, i'd say there is a lot of confusion going around about the future of the game (which should be of interest specially for a lep owner) and this falls squarely on frontier.

they have tried to mop this up with the 'announcement of the announcement' of new era which basically sends the message: "please ignore all the drama and contradiction we just had you go through, just wait and be faithful for 2020. here, have a candy and a paintjob to keep you entertained meanwhile".

btw it's really funny that you're the guy so often playing the ad-hominem card :)

otoh, it's never too late until it's too late, we still cannot say if lep was a good or a bad deal, time will tell. but the way this has developed until now, people being confused about this is the least you would expect. stop denying the obvious.

So what you are saying is it should be really quick & easy for FDev to keep their customers updated? I agree.

The rest is just posturing, you have a view, I have a view. Some have given up chasing, some have stopped caring or are justifying their purchase as a donation or whatever. I'm of the view that if they don't want to provide progress updates (as they used to, I'm not asking for anything we didn't used to get) then they can be as secretive as they like without the extra money I pre-paid. It is disgraceful behaviour.

i'll tell you when you precisely outline (with evidence) what he has misrepresented.

Lol, ok. I already have. You need to re-read those posts.

On the other hand, if you are willing to throw an accusation you need to at least describe it.

I'm glad I didn't buy one and would be asking for a refund had I. This will put people off ever commiting to a similar scheme again. It's bad for the game, bad for the reputation of FDev and bad for trust in the industry as a whole. When the annual seasons expansions were abandoned, the 'good practice' action would have been to offer refunds on LEP buyers who believed that's what they were buying. Can you argue they weren't guaranteed frequent updates and should have known better? Possibly. Consumer protection is grey. But respectful practices and goodwill is a better way for any commercial business to operate. Reputation is hard won and easy lost.

The problem is just that a few people didn't know what they bought.
There were some clever folks who asked some questions on the forums when the 2015 LEP was available.
'What if I don't like every expansion?'
'What if they don't release as many expansion as I expect?'
And the answer to that has always been:
'Don't buy it.'

what you're saying is that he just has to wait, which is true. the issue is that he's tired of waiting and is starting to harbor doubts and while that's totally subjective, it's also totally understandable. some people just doesn't seem to want to hear about it and can't abstain from shooting that down. i don't think it's working, but yeah, doesn't matter anyway.

I don't think anyone can reasonably criticise the complaint that a buyer expected more than 1 paid update in 6 years.

You seemed to imply that people back in 2015 bought the LEP based in part on the fact that there was a seasonal model of updates in place.

At least thats what I gleamed from your post.

it was the model in place, and i assume anyone would interpret that as the context. yes, that was what i implied (and mostly spelled out), just that.

Curious did you live local to the event or have you kept the petrol receipt in the hope Frontier will refund that too?

It was about a 900 mile round trip, about 850 of which was with the roof down in beautiful weather. The party was good, I met plenty of other guests (most of them were locals), and stayed overnight in a hotel in the town centre with secure parking. I wrote a post about it at the time. I kept the receipts, I always keep receipts. I'll let you guess whether I hope to get that fun roadtrip paid for by a gaming company or just want to know what's going on.
