Lifetime pass and general update questions

I could accept that if it's how it'd always been, yet when they first needed our money they were everywhere like flea's on a dog. High forum use, Braben's Dev Diary and his Progress Diary video's, Brookes' Fiction Diaries, nowadays we're just treated with contempt.

Now they've multiple revenue streams we're kept in the dark, even the Snoozeletter has gone fortnightly and still no 'Sneak Peeks' for years (or real news for that matter).
Yeah, thats pretty much how i feel about the comms. Its gone from day to night, so to speak.

Did Frontier ever say how many expansions they would be doing?
Not that I'm aware of. 2+ more after 2020 seems right when accounting for the prices of the 2015 LEP and Horizons though (with the 15 USD or 10 GBP off for already owning Elite: Dangerous) at the time of their release and pre-purchase. That's 45 USD or 30 GBP per premium expansion.

The LEP was as low as 80 quid during the KS phase. 100 during the premium beta phase.

Thats 20 quid an expansion then or could it be more likely that the cost of the LEP post KS was a random figure meant to entice those with the funds and will to buy it but now eat into long term earnings if every man and his dog bought one if it were on sale at a knock down price.

It also doesnt take into account the beta phase during horizons where they charged non LEPers 10 quid for or the skin pack they were hit with at the end of last year.

What im getting at is that its a little daft to assume that the cost of the LEP can be divided by a certain amount to get you how ever many DLC can fit into the cost of the LEP.
Rather than being daft, I think it's the most fitting model for the plan Frontier was working with at the time, though it is inferred and not actually known, of course.

Beta access and exclusives are free perks with the LEP.

There is nothing exclusive to the LEP afaik, the LEP did include Horizons exclusives though.
Right, exclusives are free with the LEP, though the LEP doesn't have exclusives of its own. So like, the Black Friday paint job and access to the Cobra Mk IV.

You can tell they have run out of ideas/steam when all the can now come up with is the same mechanics as every over game. Base building is just to give players a endless build/maintain loop to keep they occupied with the most basic of gameplay; keep buying the paintjobs...

I'm willing to see how it goes, but player owned stations were pretty much the death knell of the closest game to ED (Jumpgate) that I've ever experienced.

Naturally Frontier could helpfully confirm this kind of stuff.
This was listed as part of the terms of sale of the 2015 LEP, so for this specifically, they already have confirmed it.

If 2020 has beta access and for whatever reason an exclusive ship for pre-purchasing it, beta access and the ship will be included with the LEP as well.

In your analogy, had this optional fart can exhaust been paid for in advance? As I stated in my first post in this thread a non-LEPer has little to nothing to complain about regarding the secrecy or timescale, anything extra is just a bonus.

I appreciate that many customers are in that position and I have categorically stated several times that I would prefer to sit in that camp, reverting my account to a regular horizons (beta) account. That would solve the problem as far as I'm concerned.

So if FDev would like to provide a way to make that transition smooth & amicable I'd be happy to put this to rest.

All I'm looking for is a progress update. It's not an unreasonable request. I appreciate the desire for secrecy (I don't agree with it after this long), I appreciate that companies don't like to give money back if they can avoid it, but this situation of 'wait just a little longer' has gone on too long already.

Frontier: Do you intend to release sufficient premium content to make the 2015 LEP worthwhile? If so over what sort of timescale to you currently anticipate the 2015 LEP will come good? And of course if not, how do I get that refund for the value not yet redeemed?
I know that it's against the TOS so this question is just hypothetical:
If I would give you €80 for your LEP account, would you accept the offer?

Hypothetically? Send the money over & I'll probably get back to you in a few years if you remind me.

Why do you ask?
Scratch that, I don't care.

Call me a fanboy if you want, this time it's OK (but only this time!).

Frontier is in the top 5 of my favourite developers.
They maintain and update the game since 5 years.
They regularly make interesting streams like the discovery scanner.
Whenever an update comes up they make several streams where they go into great detail about upcoming features and they answer hundreds of questions on the forums while also posting summaries.
They always listen to feedback and often some good ideas make it into the game.
When you don't like a certain feature or mechanic they often explain why it's implemented that way.
When we don't understand something a dev joins the thread and explains it to us.
The game doesn't rely on pay to win or free to play mechanics or on lootboxes and yet they manage to provide free updates.
Their CM team is pretty nice.
You can send Brett a PM and he usually responds within 24 hours.
Support is just awesome.
They spend a lot of time with the community, creating featured commanders and such.

I think that's more good things that I can say about any other developer. They aren't perfect but certainly better than EA, Activision and Ubisoft.

Feel free to call me a fanboy, but only once since I am not going to post something as positive as this until we finally get cockpit cats.

Frontier has made a great game so far. I backed in alpha for 200GBP and I dont feel like I've been shorted at all.

The way the content releases layer over the existing game seems to me to be a careful and deliberate assembly of something much bigger--that synthesis of a great galaxy that D.Braben described so evocatively early on.

What's been made so far is amazingly close to what they said it would be--from mechanics to concept imagery. We should expect them to continue to deliver.

Also, the description of what Elite was going to become was SO CLEAR in those early videos and the features forums, how could we not know what we were buying a lifetime pass to?

Just give it some more time. The game has all the makings of a truly massive accomplishment and I think they'll bring it together more and more.

Ultimately with Horizons being fleshed out with more content (they will so do this) and Beyond fleshing out the core experience, and Legs or whatever is 2020, that's a lot of content. I'm sure there will be even more past that.

I'd buy it again. Easy.

P.s. I think the lack of dev communication regarding specifics is sensible. This is a really passionate community and sometimes it makes more sense to just let the content come out and speak for itself. They're telling us big things are coming. It's hard for me to wait too, but I have faith in them.

What was talked about back then and what was actually delivered during the last couple of years are completely different things. This felt a bit like a bait-and-switch for some people who bought the LEP based on was was hinted at back then and left a bad taste.

Well, specifics is a strong word. Why do so many people seem to have the notion that information/news is strictly binary, either all or none?

But to end on something more positive: I really liked Will's post yesterday. He told us when and what we can expect and also what we can't expect.
