Game Discussions Light No Fire (Hello Games)

I would hope that they use the same implementation as they did in NMS. It's simple, flexible enough and it works.... so, don't fix what isn't broken, IMHO.
There are good chances the code base (core game engine, networking, etc.) is exactly the same. Would be a waste of time re-inventing the wheel at this point, also that's what all studios do (see Bethesda for a recent example...).

I see so many announcements, game updates, roadmaps and sentiments about coop that I firmly believe the trend for coop has already settled in, but we'll see it grow bigger during the next years. In the past coop was either successful niche, riding shotgun to pvp or outright ignored. With aging audience groups the part that favours PvE and coop has grown larger and is now a serious part of the market. We'll see cheap cash ins, serious gameplay innovations and devs with a clue what coop players want.
Hello Games has a good advantage here. Fortnite is the new niche, stuff like this here might make the general market appeal.

So, why is it called "light no fire"? Fire is good. Fire is progress. Fire is bright. I feel most games are way too dark nowadays. What's the point of playing in total darkness. Black shadows over dark blue shadows, wow. Or does it attract enemies? Usually it's the other ways round. Or is it just 3 random words to give the baby a name?
It also has red emblematic logo-like focus, like the red tetrahedron (or wossname) from NMS. Brand strategy?

I grew into my early years of PC gaming via LAN parties initially, later on t'interwebs, playing Tom Clancy games...Ghost recon or Rainbow 6 especially. Then from Operation Flashpoint to ARMA where most of us in my rather large clan/group (BAF) being ex military had no real inclination to go head to head PvP with non-military folks (or each other) whilst using proper squaddie-speak and real world tactics.

ARMA especially let us play at doing our former day jobs minus the sore shoulders, aching arms and feet (that 120lbs of kit takes it's toll on your knees too) but from the comfort of sitting behind a computer desk with a nice cuppa :)

There is all kinds of genres, this is just a part of the market, mostly for dudes. The female game population has grown and aged, too and you can score a hit if you market a good functioning coop game for multiple audiences - bring them together and you'll sell millions.

The gfx do look more enticing than NMS, will be interesting to see where it goes. I assume they have a stronger hook than "Valheim, but higher res, and with flying!" :)
No, this is their first trailer, so this is probably the hook, or at least most of it. Also, notice how there's no combat shown. Enshrouded at least had a theme of "Valheim, but handcrafted maps with more detail and more involved combat", and a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting. However, Light No Fire so far looks like they remade No Man's Sky (even the name sounds the same) to be more like Valheim, but in a visual design that'll likely have broader audience appeal (gotta go for higher saturation, too). Plenty of ships mounts shown in the trailer, and zero combat: I expect that the plan is for the latter to be about the same as it is in NMS.

Mind you, I do think there's a large enough audience for this, and it's natural progression for HG to ditch space environments, so I don't think this is likely going to be bad. But based on what was shown here, it looks like it's not going to be original either.

For me, at the moment, it's more like, RNF (Right Not Fussed much about it) - but it definitely interest me enough to make bad puns about it 😂

This seems to me the most interesting shot in the trailer. Four different species.

Does this get the wind in your willows? Or are you ratty?

Well as someone that played DAoC Hibernia with Celts, Lurikeens, Firbolgs, Elves, Sylvans and Shars - playing something with badgers, moles and rabbits feels.... weird 😂 (Not)

I didn't see an answer to your question. I wondered the same. I suppose it could be fire attracts baddies, creatures, headhunters, ??? I dunno but eager minds ...
like "don't look up" or "bird box" or worms or any of many other sci-fi horror flicks

Maybe it's "don't make camp", "don't stay in one place", but given people love to build and call it their own I doubt it.
