List of combat loggers has reached 250 recorded loggers, with 322 total logs. Frontier, this is a problem

How can any of you support combat logging? I really don't understand the attitude of people on this forum. Anyone that spends any time here knows combat logging is clearly an exploit in the game which we all know is used in all game modes to avoid game mechanics, yet we still get people here arguing against FD fixing this clear loop hole...

That's cool for you, but you don't get to police what OTHER people care about, sorry.

Combat logging is against the rules & is cheating. If people are passionate about a game why would you be surprised at passionate reactions to cheating in their beloved game?
I wasn't planning to arrest you ;)

I'm passionate about photography. Maybe I'll start keeping a league table of people who ruin my shots.

But not all the actions the OP is recording and stating FDev must do something about is NOT Cheating by the rules laid down by FDev.
Hence they, and you, are labelling people who play within the rules explicitly stated as cheaters and attempting to name and shame and get the Devs to punish them.

Passion does not excuse such unsportsmanlike behaviour

I belive they do differentiate between pulling plug loggers and menu loggers.

Go and have a look. There's video evidence.

Frankly its still cheating. It should be treated as such.

The argument against, is against including those who use the menu to log out, as combat loggers to be punished, as FDev have stated it as within the rules.

Until the rules change, the OP is wrong to demand their inclusion in any punitive action against cable pullers and task terminators

Currently it is not though.
That is the crux of the disagreement.

All I find when I search reddit for combat loggers is a mod who posted a players personal info and got the sub reddit banned. Very reliable..

You're thinking of /r/EDCombatLoggers, where the moderator from IPC doxxed a logger. That subreddit + user was banned, and rightfully so. Having been on the receiving end of doxxing and death threats I can attest to how it is as part of a game community.

The subreddit in question for this post is <snip>, which is moderated by different people from "enemy" player groups who have a common goal. The moderation is impartial.

FD caving into the mob and changing the rule and their official stance doesn't make combat logging an unsportsmanlike thing to do, no matter what all you average nonhazardous pilots say to the contrary or your quoting of FD's stance that says, in reality, "We aren't going to stand up to the overtly prolific whiners, we're scared to upset people who don't comprehend the meaning of the 2 words Elite and Dangerous", thats all good and fine, but the numbers are dropping there won't be as many new sales after the next upgrade, maybe 10 new players will stay in game and maybe buy a skin or 2, but the new direction is going to be grind to win, the attraction for me to Elite was the ability to cross my RL piloting skills immediately to game and be a good player. My skills in strategy and the art of war crossed over so well we made you all cry and hide in solo apart from those who play in the true spirit of the title of the game, the Elite; Dangerous pilots that won't log out at the first sign of a rebuy.

And unclearly and not logical rules are dividing the community.

The rule menu-log is OK and pulling cable is not OK is equal to the - you can rob the bank, but you cannot flee on foot, but you can on hands - then robbing a bank is ok.

That is the crux of the disagreement.

Only semantically.
You're still quitting out of any consequence of playing the game. It's up there with flipping the chess board so that you don't technically lose the game.

So if someone combat logs because they are attack and about to die (either by a PC or NPC as FDev doesn't appear to see any difference ) how does that really affect the attacker? Aside from missing out on the kill (and maybe a bounty if the person is wanted) does it really have any effect on the attackers game? If they are a pirate and have attacked an innocent party (not wanted) should they be thankful to the combat logger for leaving before they died and saved the attacker getting a murder charge? lol

Just a thought as there is a lot of passion that this ruins people's game, but what are the real issues that combat logging causes, other than hurt egos? Not that I think that combat logging is cool, I have lost a number of pythons after miss judging a hazres or other times where I got out just in time with only a few % of hull left and felt the amazing relief of getting out alive!

I miss out on cargo or some nice fireworks, prefferably not the latter as I also carry hatch breakers and will try to disable the ship rather than kill it. But yea it effects the game the same way it would for you if you couldn't cash in on exploration data anymore or NPC pirates logged on you when killing them.

And please don't make a bounty or some cargo something trivial. That would be like saying if you suddenly couldn't mine asteroides ''Well what did you really miss out on? Some rocks? Pft.''

If you check the reddit, it does differentiate between those "cable pulling" and those menu logging. It is very clear in a video when someone flys in a straight line for 15s before exiting.

I agree naming and shaming has is never a good solution, but this problem has been in ED since day 1 of combat testing in Alpha with a very easy solution, yet FD are still taking no action to fix it and there are a clear set of people in this topic that seem not to want it fixed.

How is it unclear? Logging off via the ingame function = ok. It's perfectly logical.

If the issue is understanding of the players, don't be afraid to ask questions about it. I'd be happy to explain the difference :)

"They see me loggin' they be hatin' " :p

FD caving into the mob and changing the rule and their official stance to support their ineptitude doesn't make combat logging an unsportsmanlike of a thing to do, no matter what all you average nonhazardous pilots say to the contrary or your quoting of FD's stance that says in reality, "We aren't going to grow balls we've got this far without them and we'll use kowtowing to the babies as a substitute", thats all good and fine, but the numbers are dropping there won't be as many new sales after the net upgrade, maybe 10 new players will stay in game and maybe buy a skin or 2, but the new direction is going to be grind to win, the attraction for me to Elite ws the ability to cross my RL piloting skills immediately to game and be a good player. Any single person that defends with FD's official stance is nothing more than a with disillusion attitudes formulated to cater to your lack of skill and spine

lol, tell us what you really think Ornee.

Frankly its still cheating. It should be treated as such.

It's not popular with the community but by the rules it's not cheating. You can say that it feels like cheating and you would call it cheating by your own rules and never do it yourself but it wouldn't be cheating in the book.

what are you talking about? the sub is still up and there is no personal information about anyone on this reddit. A video posted of things that happen in said videogame should never be deemed inappropriate for a videogame dedicated sub-reddit. It's not the frontier forums and if someone combat log (cheat) you deserve to be exposed and banned. I'm sorry but that's the only way to bring attention to the problem and educate players to never combat log. Hidding the problem between closed doors is not going to fix the problem.

Yes I am sure you are a grand pilot, but the rules are the rules until they are changed, and demanding FD caving into the mob and changing the rule and their official stance to support to support you position is the what is being demanded here.
If disagreeing with you makes me a with disillusion attitudes formulated to cater to your lack of skill and spine is not something that bothers me

Yeah, that's fair. I am saying the rules are wrong/contrived.
