Comment: thought I'd earn more credits / rank

me too !!! either way, updated :)

I'm not sure if this qualifies as I don't have before and after screenshots. The Distant Suns video blog is my documented journey to the far side of the galaxy and back during the very early days/weeks of Elite's release.

Exploration Credits: ~30m
Cmdr: Kamzel
Ship: DSS Beagle
Range: 34 LYs
Date Home and # of days exploring: 23rd February (69 days)
# of Systems: ~5500
Earth-Like: ~7
Water worlds ~ 38
Black hole: 4
Neutron Star: 4
Total Distance(LY): ~144,000 LYs. The distant suns of the far galactic rim and back.
Rank (after this trip): Ranger
Comment: Expedition began on 16th Dec (ED release day), and was concluded in late February - unfortunately before the exploration pay out increase, hence the paltry 30m payout.

Erimus, we take all of this in trust, I ask for screenshots but if there is none then no worries :)
p.s. ~30 for your last trip or total ?
p.p.s if ~30 is your last trip, can you look in your stats and tell me the total exploration credits too please ?

The 30m is all I got from my entire 144K LY trip. If I remember correctly back then it wasn't possible to filter the map to show non-sequence stars, so finding black holes and neutron stars was mainly by accident, hence the low number of finds and payout.

Even with the poor state exploration payouts were in at the time I still expected more from that trip, but was just happy to make it back alive in the end! :)

Edit: I remember I started the trip as Aimless rank and only 525 CRs from exploration (yes, just 525 CRs). The Distant Suns expedition was my maiden voyage post release. Earned an Asp through trading during gamma, and set off to the far side of the galaxy 12 minutes after the game went live on Dec. 16th... its all coming back to me now :D

lol :) I don't know how you had time to scan with you spending so many hours making us those exquisite videos !!!

Making the videos cost me quite a bit of hull damage on occassions. There's one clip in there somewhere with me wedged in-between a close orbiting triple system. Cost me 12% hull to get that shot

Hi Dognosh, noticed you calling me via https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=147247

I'll try and fill in as much detail as I can:

Exploration credits after trip - about 145mil
Ship - Asp
Range - 34ly
Earth like - about 20
Neutron star - I think about 1500 but lost count after a while
Total distance - must have been about 65kly
Rank after trip - Elite

I also did a more recent trip which net me about 120mil. I thought it may be more, but never mind.

Hope this helps fill in some of the blanks. I'm back in civilisation doing a bit of trading but am toying with the idea of getting a second Anaconda and kitting it out for exploration, but also curious to hear what the new ships are like. Next plan is to explore the outer edge a bit more.

cheers, updating as we speak. Any chance of the data for the last trip ?

CMDR Jaistlyn of the LDD Farsight, reporting! I was on my way back from a deep space survey when the CG started. It was all in the timing! Total of 2779 systems over about 30 days. Cashed in at the Azaleach Goal. Here are the images before anyone says "Pics, or it didn't happen!" I'll be adding images of the various Earth-Likes and stuff when I have the chance.

Another expedition is over. I wasn't expecting to get an Elite rank, but it turned out that 155 million credits was enough (yay!). Now I am going to take well deserved break. Svetovid (my Asp) won't be going out until them devs improve and enrich exploration as profession. There are tons of great ideas and suggestions on these forums - if they could bring just 1/3 of that to life, I would be more than happy to fly into the unknown once again.

Report (as usual, I wasn't taking notes about celestial bodies):

Exploration Credits(for this trip): 58.7 million
Exploration Credits(total after this trip): 155.5 million
Cmdr: Sputn1k
Ship: Asp (Svetovid)
Range: 34.94
Date Home: 31/MAY/2015 (56)

Neutron Star: -
Total Distance(LY): ~40.000 LYs
Rank (after this trip): Elite
Journey Style for this trip: Veggie
Comment: hull on return 98%

Screenshots are in spoiler. Note: I didn't take screenshot on my departure, so I made two when I docked - one before selling the data, and one afterwards... I hope it's okay.
