Listing Codex bugs

I thought I was going crazy, Lagrange clouds missing, space crystals apparently changing colour, but then I found this thread and realised it was a fairly common bug.

Well probably a waste of time reporting it but this seems like a significant issue. The terraformable ammonia world listed in the codex for the Outer Orion Spur, [Pro Eur LR-N d6-167] is now no longer terraformable. Just visited it today. What happened: pollution, thargoids, parallel universes? Who knows.

See this line in the list: "Terraformable ammonia worlds don't actually exist (yet some are listed on the Codex)"
So they never existed in the first place, no ammonia world terraforming candidates.

Happy fifth anniversary to most of these bugs! I made an update to the post, as I realised that the Quadripartite pods out in Lyra's Song have some wrong requirements listed. Specifically, ELWs and WWs are written down as possible requirements, but they don't seem to spawn the pods.
I also wonder if there's a fifth colour meant to be there, probably red, and just not spawning, probably bugged in a similar way. There seems to be an obvious gap for M or Y stars, after all.

In addition, I checked over the bugs, and fortunately, there were a few I could cross out. They were about certain surface stuff not registering in the Codex before, so that was probably during one of the Odyssey updates. That's at least a nice side effect.

Lol so my sig is still relevent.
Funny you should mention that, I just realised today that there are even more bugs: the listed planet type requirements for the various K-type Anomalies in the Wepaa NSP area don't actually apply, only the Black Hole requirement is needed.
To be frank, the text has so many errors that the whole thing should be checked over.

I have just completed a thorough survey of the only known location where Aster Trees and Aster Pods can be found.

For reference, I have based my survey on the assumption that Aster Trees and Pods spawn:
  • in a sphere
  • centred on Chau Euq IO-Z d13-0, but excluding this system
  • within a radius of 640 LY from that point, approximately

My conclusion is that there is one error in the codex text and one bug in the codebase.

The error in the Codex text relates to the Puniceum varieties. These are described as requiring a Class I Gas Giant, but the only system where the Puniceum Aster Pod spawns (Pyrooe Dryiae ZQ-C d0) does not have a C1GG. It has a CIIIGG and a CIVGG, so one of these must be the required body type. I don't think we have enough data to know for sure which it is, but my gut feel is the CIVGG.

The error in the codebase is that somehow, Aster Trees and Aster Pods have been configured to only spawn in systems containing an ELW, in addition to the spawn constraint listed in the codex. This is clearly a bug in the code because it imposes such strict constraints on spawns that two varieties of tree don't even exist in the game at all.

I surmise that the original occurrence of Aster Pods and Trees was way over the top - almost every system in this area meets the spawn requirements listed in the codex for one variety or another. This ELW constraint was applied at the last minute to thin them out, but the result was much greater than intended.

Hey, thanks! All that's good to know, I'll update the relevant places soon.
And yeah, it could have been. The NSP spawns appear to have been really rushed. There's this example, and on the other extreme, we have the various Anomalies in the Wepaa sector (see here), which are supposed to have a planet type requirement, but they only require Black Holes - and as such, the 500 ly sphere they're in is chock full of them.
Well, a few more Codex / NSP bugs to heap on the pile.

Updated this again, adding some bugs that have been missing from it. To make it better readable, I removed the part where the few bugs that were fixed were still there struck out, and since there would be too many entries about wrong information in the Codex, I just made this point here to the spreadsheet where they are written down. Also, I added a new part about NSPs which are suspected to be undiscovered because they might be bugged and not spawn.

Also, a "fun" fact: by today, these bugs have been present in the game for more than half its lifetime.
