Little confused...

Looking at the image below I had the Federal rank from delivering to Navy bases for them, I took every single "We need" mission it would let me from a damaged station(3 trips total) and back to supply for rebuilding and my Imperial navy says 100% now when it was nothing but No "Rank" like on the Federal side?
What am I missing here?

I'm not sure, I went to the closest station that was damaged and ran multi-pal missions(as many as it would let me load 3x) and all the sudden the Imperial was at 100% but no rank, IDK

Your are 100% of 'none'. Now you need a rank-up mission and then you go to 0% of 'Outsider' (thats the first imperial rank). Probably even a bit higher, you keep making progress towars the next rank even after 100%. So after the rank-up it will be something like 8% outsider. And once you are 100% outsider you can rank up to 'Serf' and so on

Sorry if this is painfully obvious, but find a system in Imperial space with mostly Imperial factions, that will give you the best odds at getting offered Imperial Navy rank missions.

Still don't understand, I'm only at 91% Federal but 'Ensign' ranked- how did that happen? That is the 6th rank. Is there a particular type of mission to gain ranks?

Yes, thats the 'rank up' mission. They have something like 'for the imperial/federal navy' in the title.
You can only get them from allied factions (and they need the right superpower allignment obviously)

Sorry that I seem a little daft for asking, I was just not sure why that was saying that(The image I attached) didn't make any sense to me. Got it now. Thank you both.

Do worry too much about finding that next 'ranking mission', because anything you do that raises your ranking points, is just added to the next rank, automatically.

Also you can pick and choose the type of ranking mission; you wish to do. E.G. If you don't like combat, but can only find combat 'ranking missions, at this time. Just wait until the type of ranking mission you like turns up and in time, it will. All missions you have done in the mean time, all add up and go towards your rank. I got three 'ranking missions with the Feds and after doing them, I had ranked up three ranks, because I had done a lot of missions, but no ranking mission, for ages.

I hope that make sense.

Thanks, the thing is I really never really pay any attention to who is offering what- it really depends on what ship I feel like flying for the day and then how much does it pay.
I'll have to start actually reading them now ;)

Or keep doing what you're doing. It seems to be working for you.

Not necessary to actually go to an Imperial System, just any old system will do as long as there are Empire aligned factions. Only the Empire factions will give the missions to get the next rank. Exactly how they are worded depends on the mission type. The trade ones, for example, say something like "Imperial Navy needs" or "Imperial Navy Requires".

Totally think the game should do a better job of explaining this. By the time I found out (by finding it in forums or on reddit) I had gotten enough rep to rank up in the Federation 4 times and the Imperial Navy 3 times.

It would be nice if more of this kind of stuff was explained in the 'game'.
That is so funny. Sorry.

F,D. only will employ sadists and have a long history of 'not explaining anything about how to play Elite'. They prefer to just throw you in, at the deep end, of a pool that sharks live in; then turn off the lights and walk away.

You need to be Friendly with Imperial factions, so you will have to do a few missions in Imperial space (as said earlier by Krash, I think) to improve your chances. One of the factions will offer you the mission, but it's not necessarily the one that controls the station.

You will do better to do some missions close to a 'home base' that is Imperial for a while, if you want to keep ranking up with them. Don't wander all over Imperial space, keep local and the rep will build and the mission(s) will appear.

Like they could make the WHOLE thing a lot more user friendly.

To hell with SC assist and all that, just explain in the 'game' what exactly does what.

Just explain. Don't simplify. We all got brainiums.

But, if we don't know why that does that....

We get supercruise assist.
I have not logged in since the last up-date. I don't see a requirement for a super cruise assist, but I have not looked yet to be sure.

Agreed: More genuine advice, would be good. AN Example: No one confirmed, that having mata alloys or shooting for same, will up-set the Thargoids. That sort of question has been asked, a number of times.
