Live Lave radio. Hot news - Dropship mark 11 & gunship.

I tried asking about this in the irc chat, because if this is true, then surely that means there is no XBox exclusive period?
The exclusive period is that THE GAME is on the XBox (and not another console). Whilst nearly everyone (myself included) seemed to assume that CQC was exclusive, I suspect that FD used ambiguous-speak and never said that (can't be bothered to check). Whether that was always the case, or FD read the small print with Microsoft and realised they could release CQC to the PC/Mac almost immediately it went live on the XBox, thus prompting their apparent change of position, is anyone's guess.

OK, I did a bit of digging, and from what I've found out, CQC should be released on XBox by the end of July.

I'll link the source for that, if I can find it again.

EDIT: This is dated June 17th http://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-one-game-preview-what-elite-dangerous
I would have thought you had been around long enough to understand FD-ambiguous speak. They have said that the PC/Mac version will be available a few days after it is live on XBox. Note the word live. It is going to be available on the XBox shortly, but that will still be under whatever it is they call the beta-thingy. Not live. So not imminent on PC/Mac. I hope, given that Microsoft are involved, that the beta will take 'as long as it needs' and not be an FD-beta where they push it out anyway whatever state it is in. So, essentially, the XBox folks will be doing the beta testing for the rest of us, and we will get it once the beta has finished.

Perhaps.

I am really looking forward to it, so I can explicitly ignore it, rather than having to just talk about ignoring it.

Wow, how inventive of you - say something that doesn't align with your personal opinion and the person is a troll - priceless. For what it's worth I stand by what I said - ships are cheap "content" - all the building blocks are there it adds little actual newness.

I agree with this. Once you have a certain amount of ships, unless you bring in some highly specialized or larger than the conda 'game changers', it's all shades of grey. Especially when they're just taking ships already in the game and sticking things on to the edges. (Diamond Back, Eagle and now Dropship)
You will mostly fly the best ship you can afford for the role you're playing, with the odd swap into something small and 'more fun' which after a while you realize is closer to 'different' than 'more fun'.
More ships is more choice which is always good, but really this game needs lots of other things before more ships, which don't seem to be coming anytime soon. I've a feeling the only reason they're adding this is to placate the Federation siding players after it was deemed they were giving to much favoritism to the Empire.

I only hope those do not count against the originally planned 30 ship but rather go beyond that..

indeed.. this is my worry as well. i am all for new variants, but variants should not be counted as new ships imo.

imp eagle is a variant of an eagle
DB EX is a variant of a DB Scout imo. (its like an estate version of a pug 308 vs the hatchback)

PANTS!!! it seems twitch no longer works on my work machine :(

As for the new ships — Let's not blindly jump to conclusions based solely on how many hardpoints they have.

It was laughable how people said the Imperial Courier was "useless" both before and during the Powerplay beta 1.4
Raw experience & tests > theorycrafting

Not at all!

I've seen lots of posters pleading for content, but nobody seems to clearly define what they actually mean by "content". Hence my question. Isn't there already quite a lot of stuff to do, with more to come according to the developers? If so, what is the point of all the doomsaying/melodramatics?

Some people have talked about a need for user-generated content, but their demands either mesh poorly with instancing/mode-switching, i.e. two fundamental parts of the game that aren't likely to go away, or they don't share the low-level player focus that has characterised the Elite series thus far.

Therefore I am confused by the demand for "content".

I have posted this elsewhere, but it is an answer to your question.

One type of content I believe the ED universe desperately needs is content that dresses the ED universe up.

The gameworld needs more assets to make it feel alive and give it variation.
We need more types of space structures and it wouldn't hurt if some of them looked a bit dramatic and awe inspiring:

- Imperial bases need to look the part. Imperial core systems should have Imperial styled space stations and other structures.
When we enter Imperial space, it should feel different.
- More internal and external variation of existing stations
- Prison Installations
- Industrial Complexes
- Military fortresses, battlestations, outposts (that look the part), military shipyards, secret military deep space maintenance and refueling stations
- Huge mining and ore processing installations
- Corporate headquarters
- Scientific observatories with huge telescopes and radio dishes.
- Asteroid bases (f.e. pirate bases)
- Solar arrays
- True shipyards with ships under construction
- Large container shipping areas
- A few truly unique stations
- Multiple installations in each other visible range, for example a container yard near a commercial outpost.

etc. etc.

What is also needed is more npc traffic, npc only ships that make the universe feel more alive, richer:
- Tugs
- Repair and Maintenance vehicles
- Huge tankers and container vessels
- Miltitary npc vessels like frigates, destroyers, corvettes, large troop transports, Battleships etc. etc.

Many of these assets should have their own sets of missions of course.

I would love to be able to dock with a large military vessel to get a special mission for example. Or just add military capital ships and other npc ships as mission givers.

I believe adding assets should be a priority because it influences directly how we perceive the game world itself.
Currently it is too dry, too lifeless, too samey.

Other content would be:

- More interesting multi tiered missions
- Being able to do hauling missions in stages if your cargo hold is not large enough
- I would like to have to follow targets through several systems
- or having to spy on a pirate base in an asteroid with specialized tools (taking pictures with a camera that sits in a weapon hard point for example),
- or having to hack a computer inside a base and plant some spyware and download secret data to my ship.
- refueling missions, to help out npcs stuck in deep space with empty tanks
- repair missions, to help repair damaged ships. For this repair drones/limpets need to be implemented

Or I would like to do some secret missions for the military:
- Having to search for an enemy listening post in deep space etc. etc.
- Going to an enemy capital ship under false pretences, after having gotten illegal codes to approach, and then having to download navigation info.

this stuff
people keep on asking for it over and over and over
life! personality! flavour!

instead we have the same station interior ad naseum, identikit systems and nonsensical NPC comms
the galaxy feels stale and dead

I tried asking about this in the irc chat, because if this is true, then surely that means there is no XBox exclusive period?

The CQC release may very well not be the Full Release of the game on Xbox though. It look's like they purposfully used possibly deceptive wording. Hmm....

Conspiracy theory #29734:

Imperial Courier in last build. Imperial Eagle in this one. Federal Gunship being released, and an upgraded Federal Dropship. All major faction ships. Something "colossal" is coming at Gamescom.

All-out War is coming, Federation vs Empire.

Personally I expect most of the stuff I listed to get implemented at a certain point.
I realize developing a huge project like this is is a lot of work and takes a lot of time.
We will just have to be patient and let FD do the developing :).

true.
just frustrating to see resources being dedicated to powerplay, something that most people don't want
it may well be that PP is not their priority - but the fact that every update, advert, interview, etc. seems to be hammering on about it - including this guy on the radio who sounded like he was pushing a PR line about it being 'what players wanted' when it's quite obviously not.

still. it's just a game, and the internet is full of entitled, infantile whinging. hello!

All-out War is coming, Federation vs Empire.

Think bigger!

War between Federation and Empire AND war between Alliance and Thargoids. Throw in a plague and and civil unrest everywhere, collapsing markets (0 supply and demand) and a burst of cosmic energy that causes SCB malfunctioning.

We are doomed. I need to make a tinfoil hat.

I'll just quote Sandro:

Hello Quineloe!

Yes, but such changes obviously take time to create and implement and are lower down the priority list compared to mechanic fixes. And contrary to popular belief, we're not working exclusively on Powerplay :), by a long shot.

It's just the most recent new feature they have released and also a feature quite a number of people would like to see major changes to in terms of implementation. So they talk about it. Nothing strange here.

Do note that they've said that any major changes to PP will only come sometime next year because their schedule is already full with other things. In other words. They are not focusing on PP in terms of development right now.

I thought now might be a good time to take a look further ahead into the future, at Powerplay ideas we’re mulling over for potential deployment next year (as we’ve already rather a full calendar up to the end of the year!)

He was referring to the fact that we are about to get the tools to create our own powers based in player groups

hope that's the case :)

that does make sense...

So basically they're prioritizing things nobody asked for instead of the things everybody asked for. In the meantime we're 8 months after release and we get another Eagle, this time with a spoiler.

Where do you find out what "everybody" asked for? Do I get a say in that or is "everybody" a collective term for a group that doesn't include "everybody"?

Also, I missed the bit where they talked about "prioritising" things

Absolutely.

I don't even care if some of it is just eye candy.. this game desperately needs some variety to it's locations.
