Logitech G X56 Hotas RGB

Great HOTAS . What advice are you after?
I've moved to a Virpil Alpha stick but have kept the throttle which in my case is better than the Virpil throttle (not quality wise but more button placement wise)

I use minimal buttons and VR - took a month or so to get everything comfortable.
Learning to change your binds ingame quickly is well worth it.

Yeah l got the same stick n throttle. Great for this game.
Many buttons to bind. Itll take you a few days or even weeks to settle into its finer points. Dont be afraid to change it to suit how you want. The default is a joke so your gonner have to go from scratch.

Same here except I use x56 stick for driving srv in my left hand (I'm a righty) and virpil alpha for turrent controls in my right, x56 throttle for ship thrusters and other controls.

Great gear, if You use thumbsticks for thrusters ie vertical or horizontal, set small dead zones, I found them not centering perfectly and causing my ships to drift about 3m/s in direction last used, but other than that just grease those beasts every niw and then. If You are bothered about how stiff throttle is, don't worry, it goes away apparently after couple of weeks of casual use. For me it went after couple of sessions but hey I have no social life so 4 hours elite sesh till 3am is a routine 🤣🤣

I tried a 2 stick combo but im a left hander and having a throttle on my left is just magical.
The x56 thottle for VR is intuitive memory muscle bliss. Ive em bolted to platforms either side of my gamer chair. Where arm rests would be only lower. Custom chair.
The stick on my right slightly higher is obviously steering and targeting/mode switching. Those 2 mini sticks are set to all the thrusters.
So zero throttle with pinky slider 0%/75% and use those sweet sticks to land perfectly.
One mini stick is up down left right the other is forwards backwards roll left roll right. Simples.
Obviously all targeting and mode stitching as well as triggers are on the stick.
Throttle has zillions of buttons.
Obviously forwards back on main slider handle.
The metal switches are 2 way so i have lots bound to em as l dont have the option in vr to use keyboard.
Supercruise, hyperspace jump, cargo bay, landing gear, stow weps, dss scanner select, all on those 4 metal switches.
The 2 knobs i use as tuners for dss.
The 3 metal switches at bottom are camera, mic mute or talk, lights, deploy shield cell bank, silent running, and reset view.
The hats ohhh....not even touched them.
Stick hats.. castle is pips.
Pyrimid one is menu movement.
Other one is out of range for my small hand during combat so only menu related binds there.
The 2 hats on throttle one is pips again the other is for selecting targets moduels. Its a tight hat to reach so only good for 2 binds.
The throttle big topmost round press switch i use for left n right tuning in fss also. And press it in panic for chaff.
The press switch below it is cargo bay open close in combat...acts as a brake.
Dont use that switch over on the extreme left..too far away.
The 2 index finger buttons one is boost the other fa on and off.
The tiny flush button trapezium shaped one hard to accidentally hit is...heatsink.
I dont use the formost slider switch...its not working in elite.

Hope that helps

I found that the slider can be used as a switch if you open the deadband very wide, in Windoze's game controller properties. Then because the slider is an analogue i/p you need to move it the full range and back again, for it to register. I use it as a toggled FA off with FA on at the top of the slide and FA off at the bottom. (I also have the wheel switch on the throttle as a press to FA off.)
I use the top rotary as vertical thrust when landing and the lower rotary for FSS tuning. The other non-standard use is the Page up/down switch (LH s/w that toggles the clock) with the pinkie switch for the radar range.

I still have a spare new X56 - after awhile there is a bit too much deadzone needed to keep the joystick centered.
There are fixes for it with springs or rubber bands and if I didn't get a Virpil Alpha I'd try the fixes as it's a super comfortable stick.
Fortunately you don't need deadzones for the Virpil as it stays dead steady but I'd only get a Virpil or more expensive option if you are REALLY invested in the games.
My computer , VR and HOTAS 's were all bought only for ED and as with michalfoc above and many others I'm sure, I also have no social life haha.

Ok I have been using the X56 and have had to put in some deadzones to stop movement ingame. I am not adjusting the Logitek SW I am only adjusting in ED - is this right? The hotas is for ED and I dont (yet) have any other games to worry about.

Is there a set of tests I can do to check that this system is a keeper and does not need returning? I have never used an advanced joystick before and I am not used to the controls adjustments in ED. I am getting there and investing my time to get this right.

Yes your right adjust the deadzones to your liking to stop drift or over sensitivity
. Yes elite saves these settings if you apply them

Yeah ingame adjustment is best and quickest. I did try the software curves and such but deadzone is deadzone and it affects aiming either way especially with fixed weapons .

Also no need to return - there will always be adjustments to be made for the stick until you can make the 'return to centre ' stay dead steady which i don't think is really possible without some outside fix.

The stick and the throttle need a centre most dead zone to stop them wandering. Just a few mm for the stick and a cm deadzone for main throttle slider.. this creates a neutral zone allowing better use

Ok in-game your throttle does not have a neutral zone..no centre click midmost on the actual throttle means you have to create a neutral zone to centre stick and move it 1cm either way and nothing happens...you do this by making the in game throttle deadzone about 2cm.
The stick to stop your nose wandering, needs a much smaller deadzone in-game. 3mm 5mm or so experiment.
These deadzones are within the games own settings
