Is this not the very definition of 'emergent gameplay'? When Odyssey is here will we be able to physically multicrew and liberate the deep-space labour camps?

I know- the article was a bit wet really.

hANG ON

I can't wait for Polygon to interview me in the future.

"So, why is your FC called Kumo Burger? Where do the commanders go?"

ushers interviewer to 'the special door'

Hmmm...

Suicidewinder would have made that a much shorter article... Never been impressed with Polygon articles, I must admit.

I go there when I'm bored, but for once I found some amusement :D

I'd like to know if they had a fuel scoop (I assume not since they were 'helped' to build a ship), or at least tried to escape rather than sitting there. Plus, since the ship was bought with the press gangers help, they would have lost nothing.

My only annoyance was the Discord language they got. Other than that, this was A+ emergent gameplay that I applaud.

This is a ridiculous article.

It compares commanders being lured to work as mining slaves in game, to deliberate actions to upset someone who is terminally ill in RL.

Are they for real?

The first is clever, creative and emergent gameplay. It breathes life in to the galaxy, and actually, is quite funny.
The second is just plain nasty.

Poorly written article that is just way, way off mark... Bunch of a-holes

The Polygon article was quite frankly awful.

As I teach my kids- if you get stuck and can't go anywhere, start again. How much progress would they really lose by suiciding compared to staying out there mining for the lowest price anyway.

Brilliant idea by the abductors, especially as it requires the victims to play along.

Those at Poly aint have better stories to write? For real? It seems it affected only 20-30 cmdrs at most, I can kill 2-3 times more than that each day, if would go into cmdr huntin around newb zones.

Every single one who was dumb enough to get stranded like that deserved it, in end, even if they would selfied, they would save ton of time, but I guess they probly was too attached to thier litte starter ships...

Props for those who tricked them, nice job. (y)

I’m not against the story per se.

In fact, I think it deserves media attention - but from a positive angle. It’s brilliant gameplay. Well done to those who thought of it!

But the way it’s been portrayed in this article is miserably inadequate

Indeed. I think I'd make them cry if I told them the actual background to the game, its leaders and setting. I know when I read the title I was expecting a mini Eve like story (which pop up from time to time) but we get this.

Ah yes, because I lose everything I own on death, and rebuy isn't a thing.
The fact that you keep your credit balance, materials and most importantly the knowledge of always packing a fuel scoop unless you absolutely know you don't need one obviously slipped them by (if someone's next question is "how would I know I need a fuel scoop?" you need one).

It's as if an experience where you learn something about the game doesn't count as gameplay. An article that demonstrates a major issue in gaming IMO: I must always win and there is no place for negative experiences. No wonder people get bored so easily when they play a game in a way that they can't lose, so winning means nothing.
