Looking for help....

Im a new player, just completed Mawson Dock, and was wondering if anyone has anything to help me start out. I enjoy RPGs and wanted to RP this game as much as possible. I would really appreciate anything at all such as profession ideas, faction or group invites/tips, money/equipment.... Anything to help get a start as I understand beginning is difficult with this game.. Thanks guys :)

I think your best option is to pick a particular short term goal and focus on that.
Purchase of a particular ship, or maybe to explore a particular region.
Then with that goal in mind, you can begin to RP your story.

It also helps, I think, to pick a "home". So a station that sounds interesting or catches your eye.
Using that as a base you can look at some of the in game dialogue to draw inspiration from to create and achieve goals.

Don't buy a Docking Computer! Take the time to learn how to fly through the slot yourself now while your ships are small and cheap.
I'd recommend the commander logs on Inara.cz as a great source of RP information and inspiration.

I'd say ditch the Docking Computer and/or Advanced Docking Computer and learn how to land, take off and get your ship through the mailslot. Like Supercruise Assist, these things can be very handy for some commanders later on in the game, but just right now what they're doing is stopping you getting a feel for flying your ship.

ED is a very complex game with a huge learning curve and there are solutions on the Internet. But the player has to experience the game, making mistakes and learning from them to become proficient playing ED. It is not any RPG game ever played so don't compare ED to to them. Many do that and are disappointed. There are many experienced players willing to help out others on the Forum and tons of groups in Inara and Discord for every play style. If your play style is Solo then learning the game will be difficult. Making friends that you can TRUST helps a lot but choose wisely. Note ED is dangerous.

Since you asked, I just sent you a PM with an invite to our group. We usually don't actively recruit, but you'd totally fit in I think.
We are independent and neutral and more interested in the aspect of space faring in Elite.
And yeah, Elite is big and complex, and sometimes it's easy for long-time players to not appreciate that complexity anymore. I seem to always find new things to do though, and I don't even grind or like combat much. :D
