Looking forward to intense fighting in FPS Odyssey

Not sure we're talking about the same thing...I've only seen two video/trailers for Odyssey, both mainly featured combat. If they've shown more footage of other aspects of Odyssey then I'd love to see it...perhaps you could link them?
Yeah, there's no combat at all in the first two dev diaries. Only the "gameplay" trailer and then the third diary.

I AM 55 and play all manner of FPS
Better yet... i play nearly every type of genre of game
Generational is a cop-out. I played zx80 games, zx81 games, spectrum BBC amiga consoles and pc.
I'm pretty ancient and decrepit and have been playing on 'computers' since the early 70's...

Stilll enjoy most genres (and VR too) and have quite a comprehensive games library - although the bias is RPG & driving games... (but do have Quake & UT (all versions) as well as the HL / HL2 sets..)

But nothing wrong with Paul not being interested in the FPS part of Odyssey either... We all play exactly what we enjoy (y)

I agree, nothing wrong with Paul not being interested in FPS.
I merely wanted to bring out the fact that its not really a generational thing. I know people older than myself that play them

I play Minecraft of all things, from one perspective that could be perceived as a childs game and then have no problem switching to the X Series of space games and then Fallout 4 and then then Planet Coaster.

To be honest i don't like at all what i saw about Odissey. The FPS genre is full of good games, don't see the need to add another one.

To me, in Elite Dangerous, being able to leave the ship on foot should open other possibilities, combat being the last interesting.

I was supporting your statement - being quite a bit older...
There are generational differences, for sure, as the games 'we' were playing in the dim, distant past were 'complete' and any bugs were ours forever... At least until the days of CD patches or type-in pokes published in magazines ;)
