Lore questions. :)

Now, onto with a question for Drew:

it's now been ~1 year (didn't check the exact date, so I may be some months off) since FDev and you ended your collaboration. Do you know how much of what you wrote and what you know of the lore is still considered official lore?

Now for a lore question:
do you know if the argent's quest + thargoid mission of FFE is still considered official lore (with the end seeing the player delivering the 2nd mycoid version to the thargoids, as hinted by MB on the forums a couple of years ago)? Because considering what surfaced in game so far, it almost looks like they collapsed the mycoid plot into one single interaction, i.e., JJ delivering it to a mothership. None of the INRA + JJ logs has a date, so it's hard to say if they relate to the war with the thargoid (that the GCS Sarasvati logs mention ended in ~3151) or to a later date (as the Beta codex entries would suggest [that are still unreliable, according to QA, but I've the feeling they won't change before going live]), thus placing them around the Argent's Quest timeline (3250).

The Elite Encounters RpG manual, which, to the best of my knowledge, is still a canon source, mentions both the Thargoid retreating and killing some their own ships before jumping to hyperspace (which would led one to believe they were infected with the mycoid) at a time that looks consistent with the Sarasvati's logs, and the end of FFE's Thargoid mission, with the player choosing to collaborate with INRA betraying Meredith in 3250 (and supposedly, delivering the 2nd mycoid version).

Tionisla’s an interesting place. How would you describe Teorge?

Also do you have any info on Project Equinox/Thunderchild/Unit01? (And if so, do you know if there’s anything else to do with it that’s out there and not yet discovered)?

Lucio is the italian name that directly refers to "light", from latin name Lucius, a name based on Lux,Lucis i.e., light. Luciano derives from the roman cognomen Lucianus that is a patronymic for Lucio, thus indicating that Luciano is the son of Lucio or, being a cognomen, marking a belonging to a particular gens.
Your knowledge of Latin and Italian are clearly superior to mine. I had to use Google searches, while you understand the derivation. So it sort of confirms "son of". Along with Giovanni, it's John who is the son of... hence why I went for John Jameson Jr.

Plus, wasn't Luciano the name of the taxi driver?
Wouldn't that be a convenient fiction to cover the source of the name? [big grin]

Thank you for these replies Drew. There's metres of tinfoil to go through and trying to reduce it to simple questions might be difficult.

Another question for you Drew.
We only read of 5 confirmed members of the "anti-Club", Elyssia, Rebecca, Luko, Salomé and Alessia. Is this "anti-Club" The Dark Wheel in its entirety, or merely a subset, a splinter cell?

Being a native speaker helps ;-)

Anyway, as I said I like your theory, I didn't see the link myself until reading it in your post above. But ATM I'm a bit confused about the overall timeline (see my other post), so maybe not a son but a grand(grand)son?

Quite possible. I posted in this thread last December...

This is how I see it...
Peter Jameson (original Elite Cmdr) > John Jameson Snr (deployed the Mycoid) > John Jameson Jr (FFE Cmdr) > (not known) > Lori Jameson (ED engineer)

Hopefully, when the codex goes live we'll have some more reliable information, unless it will confirm what it contains now. If this is the case, we'll have a hard time making all pieces of the puzzle fit.

I concur it should be JJ Sr that deployed the mycoid but, if we assume it happened in ~3150 as the Sarasvati logs and EE RpG would suggest, there'd be a ~100years gap between JJ Sr and JJ Jr, so I'd place at least another (not known) in between them.

Are any of the Club Powerplay figures? I've always maintained LYR as being Exo.
Exo’s pretty anti-explorers though, from what I recall, and LYR provides incentives for people to explore so there’s a bit of a mismatch there. Having said that he could always have decided that as he can’t stop them exploring it’s better if he receives the exploration data...

I always thought Exo controls exploration info to guide and monitor what commanders are seeing and where they go. LYR seeded the galaxy with monitoring probes, and offers twice the going rate so indeed data most likely would go through him. The Pilots Fed lock out specific places, so its possible Exo is one of them but I'm not convinced.

Also, LYRs family has been involved with Sirius for over 800 years, and with the use of clones being stated its not a stretch to imagine Li being one as well. Plus, in Premonition, Exo's replies seemed eerily similar to Lis way of thinking.

Thanks for all of your help Drew. It has answered so much more than is apparent.. well, you know what we do.

One last question from me - Do you know of a means of player interaction between the Club or Dark Wheel? There have been many attempts using the background sim to alter the outcome of various story arcs, and to my knowledge only the Salome arc had a degree of player choice.

Essentially, we know who the Club are, what they are doing and pretty much who the main figures are. We also know who the Dark Wheel are, what they are doing and pretty much who the main figures are................ BUT we can't interact. I'm not asking for specifics, but if you know whether there is a way of being in contact with one or the other...

Just re-read a load of bits, and Exo’s distaste for explorers is very early on, after which comes the drive for exploration data, so LYR’s bonus would certainly fit with that.

Raxxla Suspicions

I know on Facebook you said something about how you had your suspicions on Raxxla's location. Would you agree that it is currently permit locked until FDev makes it functional (and maybe only usable with DLC?). Im not totally sure of how close to Sol we are looking at with the time frame of the expedition for finding it, and ship capabilities of the time. I assume we're looking at something in the Orion Complex, but it's difficult to tell with the large number of permit locked sectors there are and all the different theories on it.

Thought it would be nice to pick you brain on the subject and hear what your suspicions are and what you are allowed to tell us!

Good to see you back, Drew. Hoping this is a sign of more involvement in the future. No questions for now, but I'm certainly interested to see the answers to those above.

Z...

Welcome back Drew. Hopefully FD can kidnap you and lock you up in a fine Cambridge office, naturally with all desired facilities and full recompense, and then you could go ahead and clear up all the lore-issues. Oh, and create a few additional. :)

I would really want, although this is probably more for FD, a restoration of some the old systems from Frontier Elite 2. I'm talking about Ross 154, 61 Cygni, Fomalhaut etc. For some reason they were altered, and not in a good way in ED. Why was that really?

Hi Drew. Good to see you haunting the Forums again.

I have a question: John Graham. When you guys got the license to write official Elite: Dangerous fiction was there ever any intention for this character to be anything more than just a clever Easter egg referencing Braben and Bell? The name was particularly noticeable in the Tales from the Frontier anthology since different characters with the same name were introduced so closely to each other. The inclusion of cloning in Premonition has only increased my suspicion that the Grahams might be clones seeded across the galaxy.

Something of an Easter Egg as I recall. As I remember it, there was a pledger who pledged to all/most of the book Kickstarters and asked for this to be added across the books. :) However, the authors did collaborate a bit and make the idea a little deeper. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

I was led to believe that the Argent's Quest mission did take place. I alluded to it in Elite Dangerous Premonition.

Teorge? That's in interesting place too. ;) It's where (illegal at the time) clones emerged into the Elite story line. Check out the Dark Wheel for the original reference.

I don't know about Project Equinox I'm afraid.

Cheers,

Drew.

The Federation?

Obvious coffee drinkers.

Tea, being a more civilised drink, is the purview of the Empire. ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew: which Powerplay figure you've been involved with scare you the most? Also, which of them disturbs you the most thematically?

I suggest waiting until the Q4 update drops. With both Raxxla and the Dark Wheel having Codex entries - I think we'll see a little progress. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

My theory on Raxxla is based only on the lore, so it may have been Retconned by Fdev. I'm not sure. Essential it was discovered in an age where hyperspace travel was much shorter range and much tough to accomplish - thus it can't be that far away... assuming it is a place.

Cheers,

Drew.

I'd like to see Fomalhaut back, I must admit.
