The current CG is involving combat zones between the Empire and the Federation. If you read the local news though, it is stated that a megaship, the Freedom's Chance, has arrived in the system to collect Marlinist refugees for evacuation.
The ship is indeed physically present in the system, but everything is reduced to just flavor text due to PG/solo modes.
And before you start, let me clarify that Im NOT suggesting cancelling solo modes.
But just imagine the potential of Freedom's Chance being a SECONDARY goal of the current CG, that is open-only, in which the Imps will try to block access of the refugees to the megaship, and the Feds will try to break the blockade.
In general, secondary goals involving mandatory player to player interaction, while not cancelling the purpose of PG/solo, will give a whole lot consequential potency to the game, and actions will have a tangible impact to the story/BGS/etc., while being able to be really countered by opposite actions.
And, who knows, maybe even "gankers" will find a new meaning in the game as well, cause I really believe most of them are just bored and frustrated by the lack of causality in open mode.
I am a 99% PG player myself, but I cannot hide from seeing the lost potential here.
And, by the way, congratulations to the FDEV team for the Galnet, CGs and story arc! What a comeback indeed!
