I can play the apologist - these are not the omnidirectional 5/8 wave or 1/2 wave dipoles they are made to look like, but rather they are carbon-fiber tubes housing directional helical antenna that are pointing forward.
Or, since we are making things up, they are futuristic "rain sticks" to summon a deity that gives the pilot a prophetic vision of threats in the area![]()
Since CF is conductive, I doubt that would work, either.
I do not like any ship kits, I find they all detract from the original shape, and design of the ships.
This one takes the cake.

what do air intakes in space do?
Preperation for atmospheric landings I guess. Same with fighter bay doors without actually fighters being implemented. But I have no idea why they are placed behind the weapon slots. All those bullets that will be sucked in can't be too healthy for the engines ...
.3 versions of sensor dishes are needed. Square, round and that other one.
.
They will come with the raidar ship kit!
*puts five bucks into the bad pun collection box*

Nighto fiyah!!*eurobeat intensifies*
I believe they suck in space krill and convert them into stew!
I'm not a fan of how ED portrays antennas and radars in this game - tis the danger of understanding antenna design and radio wave propagation, I'm afraid. We have to point our ships at targets to scan them, yet these antennas are configured with their "blind spot" in front of the ship. They should be vertically mounted so that their radiation lobe gives 360 degree coverage along the axis of the ship, similar to the old-time CB antennas truckers used. This kit is the equivialent of sticking that CB antenna horizontally out of the grill of said truck - it might be good for jousting potential road kill (instant Shish kebab), but it's a terrible configuration for sending out a signal.
And you linked to an article claiming that ED is based on real science, LOL![]()
