Lynx vs. Caracal

Eurasian lynx, simply for the amazing distribution, being one of the most common european zoo animals and iconic to our culture.

This would literally be another giant otter vs any other otter story, the caracal being an amazing second choice, but not my first by any stretch of the imagination

They are both beauties. But in this case I prefer the lynx. Because the caracal is another animal from africa and we have many species from africa already.

Caracals are all over the place, not only africa

I’d prefer a lynx, specifically a Eurasian lynx because my interests are focussed on northern and Central Europe.

I can see why people might say the caracal is from an already well-represented area but as a desert species from the Middle East/western and Central Asia it also can be seen as improving representation from areas that are currently lacking species as the map from @yoav_r shows.

Definately Eurasian Lynx. If we would get another African cat, I'd prefer the Serval and as an Asian cat the Armur Leopard. I rarely see Caracals in my regions, so it wouldn't be something I natuarlly integrate in my zoos.

I would say a lynx, specifically the Iberian lynx. I prefer their look to most other smaller cats (with the facial mane particularly prominent), they are an endemic European species, they are an Endangered species with a good history of conservation through captive breeding and, of all the four lynxes plus the caracal, the Iberian is also the smallest which I think would be a good thing - I feel that a smaller species should be prioritised.

This is a really tough one. I’m gonna have to go with a Lynx though. They just seem slightly more interesting and appealing to me, especially with their thick fur and pointy ears.

Would love both - Lynx for another european animal and because I love that they are a species that has been central to the re-wilding movement. Caracal becuase they are gorgeous and I've worked with some briefly and they have such personalities and elegance.

I would rather have Eurasian, Canadian, or Iberian Lynx. I prefer both if it was up to me. Tough choice tho.

We desperately need a lynx, but I prefer caracals more. Hoping that a lynx is evetnually added before caracals though.
