"Maintain heading"...

Station Controllers telling us to "maintain heading" after receiving docking clearance bothers me...

1.) We don't have headings to follow in space
2.) We're told to "maintain heading" regardless of whatever our hypothetical heading would be... meaning that to follow the controllers instructions, we'd often have to continue flying in a straight line out into space.

Better phraseology would be: "Maintain approach", or "Approach your discretion"

Or im told the way is clear commander..... (words to that effect)

and upon exit i get smashed into by a beluga shouldering its way through the front door.

I'm amused by being told to "make way for larger ships" when I'm flying a Cutter or Beluga. What larger ship am I making way for, exactly? Is someone really about to squeeze a Farragut or Majestic through the mail slot?

But none of these things, not a single one, is even a fraction of a percentage as offensive to me as:

"Cleared for landing on pad zero-niner."

Only to find an NPC Beluga occupying MY assigned landing pad.

The NPC is loitering and blocking pad access, and does not get fined or shot off the pad. Instead, I have to exit, cancel my docking request, submit a new docking request, and..

"Cleared to land on pad four-two."

Where another NPC Beluga sits parked, loitering, fineless, un-removed using lethal force.

And I can't even file a complaint with management.

Nor can I clear the violator of my assigned space myself.

"maintain heading"

Agree!

I followed that instruction, and was flying away from the station. Not sure how it works when ATC tell an aircraft they have landing clearance, then instruct them to follow a heading taking them away from the runway.. Where's 777Driver when you need him!

In the end I disregarded the heading instruction, and flew through the letterbox and landed. I never did fill out a customer satisfaction survey for that tower controller...

You know, I've NEVER had this happen in game yet. There again, I only play Mobius PG or Solo. It must be an open thing.

It only happens when an instance has been around for a while, so is more common in Open. I have encountered it in Mobius when at CGs. You'll never encounter it in Solo.

It was happening loads at Chelomey Orbital the other night (but then, it was very busy).

Nope, it's any any-mode thing.

I'm a Mobius regular, and the last CG, I was deluged by occupied pads.. so much so, I had my own Beluga shipped over there, just so I could sit on a pad with it.

Ok, I only sat on the pad for a few minutes while I figured out where I wanted to go hunt, but if was oddly cathartic.

Doing a CG in Mobius is probably not that different in terms of traffic/instance lifetime than doing it in Open.

In Solo, this has literally never happened to me.

Well, yeah. They're obviously just ambient "sounds like something ATC would say" radio chatter.

It would be nice if they could be more contextual. As above - don't play the "look out for bigger ships" message if you have a Beluga/Cutter, have a "the way is clear, [Cmdr callsign] Heavy, but be on the lookout for rookie Sidewinders in the area" or something of that ilk.

The ATCs are just spouting gibberish atm. They don't impact on the game at all, as they don't 'control' anything...
