Make Elite an MMO again !!

Hello CMDRs,

First of all, sorry for my english, Im from Spain. I hope it dont hurt your eyes too much...

As the title said, maybe we need to put a bit more of MMO in Elite as almost every player right now is playing solo or priv. session with his Sqad.
IMO this is leading to a feeling that we are playing a solo videogame in a massively multiplayer 400 billion starts universe.... When you do thousands of missions from a thousand NPCs game lacks some human interacion if you ask me. Even if its a pvp interaction.

Im not saying to force people to play open, this change will never affect negatively people that actually play solo or priv. They will be playing same rules as they are now.
This will just give CMDRs a reason to play open in a balanced risk vs reward bonuses that actually just dont exist, and thats the reason nobody plays open, because, why will I risk my ship and cargo in open if I can do it in solo?

This needs to be a simple and impacting change, not a complicated or incomprehensible mechanic if you ask me.

Thats why I propose this change :

When you play open, you get X2 in all rewards, including missions, mining and every loot you can get in game including engineering materials and so...

To avoid exploits (you do the mission and log in open to claim the reward), if you log in in solo/priv while doing a mission (or accept it in solo/priv) or entering a signal source, that mission or signal source will give normal rewards. So any Login in sol/priv will turn all your missions or instances into normal loot.

Im sure it has been proposed or studied by FDevs before, still, what do you think? Why never something like whis was implemented?

Im just curious on why do you guys think this will not end well as you all can continue playing in your solo/priv experience like right now with no changes in your gameplay....

Care to elaborate?

But you have changed my gameplay, by making it worth less than someone who could be playing in Open and still be perfectly safe and never encountering another player. The risk/reward line isn’t always the whole truth, I made most of my modest credits exploring entirely in Open for a long-range expedition and I never once saw another player, even when I dropped off the explo data at a DSSA carrier. It would have been a little dishonest to double my money for zero extra risk encountered.

Everybody’s game time should be valued the same, except maybe for PP but that’s not my bag so I’ll leave that to actual powerplayers.

Personally I backed ED partly because CEO David Braben didn't want the game to play like an MMO. Personally I am dissapointed at how far towards generic MMO it has gone as opposed to semi plausible space game with proper economy and believable features.

That said you are entitled to your view and this is the forum to air your thoughts. I just want ED to be a different game to you.

I understand you can be afraid of gankers, I saw it in many games.. but man, its a game, sometimes you need to lose as in all games...

Also the price of ships compared to the money you easily win in this game... Why that fear? I just cant understand...

Possibly because the Developer pitched a game, over eight years ago, with three game modes and a single shared galaxy state and where PvP is an optional extra - and every player acquired the game on that basis.

Over the years there have been several statements to the effect that the Devs consider the three game modes "equal and valid choices".

In my humble opinion, any Open-weighting/Open-only applied crudely would harm the player base more than help it grow. Elite is already a relatively small, niche game, and most of the time outside of a handful of ‘hotspots’ you won’t ever meet another player because space is big and empty.

If you weight all rewards towards Open-play, someone like me who mixes up all game modes depending on my mood would earn credits slower, gather materials slower, engineer my ships slower... and as a consequence I’d feel even more inadequate and probably stay out of Open for good, because I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the arms race. You’d have a smaller but dedicated player base more inclined towards PvP interactions, but players like me would stay well away from Open. Congratulations, your MMO galaxy just got a little smaller!

Of course, this is just my thinking on the topic, and I might be totally wrong. I’d agree with Open-weighting for Powerplay because it’s meant to be more of a PvP focus, even if indirectly. But for the core game and the BGS, I think that should be for everyone regardless of mode.
