Make Open Play matter - Power Play and BGS should be influenced only in open

If Elite was never going to require PvP for any activity ever why the hell did they add a mode that so clearly encourages conflict between players? It's in the goddamn name! POWERPLAY.

I mean, c'mon now.
Where in the name does it indicate that the competition would be direct, in the same instance, rather than indirect and asynchronous?
Conflict, competition, and games are fun because there's something to fight for! Something to win! Something to lose! You want to look into your enemy's eyes in the ring of honor and best them!

If Powerplay isn't about competing with other players, then what the hell is it? Module shopping grind portrait worshiping simulator? :ROFLMAO:
Some players find PvP to be fun. Some don't.

Some players find trading to be fun. Some don't.

In both these cases, players can opt out. You don't have to partake in trading, and you don't have to partake in powerplay.
Trading exists in all game modes, as does Powerplay. Other players only exist in two of the three game modes - and any player (who has access to multi-player in the first place - as console players without premium platform access can't play multi-player) can create a Private Group and invite players whose play-style is compatible with theirs.

Yet I can (and have) participated in Powerplay without any requirement whatsoever to even potentially engage in PvP.

Well you didn't address the other points, and PvPers get called psychopaths, sociopaths, and worse all the time. Fair's fair, if people can call me a psycho for breaking their space pixels, I can call you a whiner for saying that your birthday was ruined.

You have no valid points to address, you're spouting your subjective opinion as fact and behaving as if you speak for every single Power Player.
Which you don't. Some of us are quite happy to play in PGs with friends or chill out in Solo.

You're also just proving why people don't want to play with you with your current display of personal attacks.
None of my friends would want someone with that attitude in our game.

You cannot "opt-out" of PvP in open mode, however.
As PvP isn't a requirement to play Power Play, it being available in all modes was a good choice.

And I find those who need to constantly try and force themselves and their egos into other peoples games equally lame and dumb.
So I bought a game where I get to choose who I play alongside so I don't have to put up with them like I had to in EVE.

That's fair to say!

You know, whether or not the apparent contradictions in Elite are intended I can't help but wonder if FDEV enjoys watching us all fight so much. :ROFLMAO:

Yet you still ignore the people who can't afford to play in open. Bravo ignorance to take away something I like to do Powerplay. It would be like me saying. Let taking away Open mode for PvPers. It would be unfair right?

Seriously. Having your subscription fee for XBOX LIVE, Playstation, or just internet access in general paid in order to be entertained is not a right.

Your problem. No one else!

I think this is another one of those stereotypes. Everyone thinks others are saying that kind of stuff when actually no-one is. I have seen it said that some PvP behaviour (usually what you might call "griefing"; trying to upset or anger people on purpose in RL) is sociopathic. I have never seen anyone even remotely suggest that all PvPers are psychopaths. Not in this forum anyway.

As for this thread, I don't care much about PowerPlay. I might try it someday. However I'm opposed to any watering-down of the block function or mode equality because I think a game which has no separate PvE server needs those to function acceptably.

I can't AFFORD the subscription. Or did you not read my Signature. The money better use for Food and other things than a game.

I will make it the heart of this Power Play problem. Because people are asking to have Power Play taken from me.

I think the contractions are a side effect of taking a single-player game and slapping an "MMO" sticker on it.
Because no one in their right mind would make this mess on purpose.

But it wouldn't surprise me to find out they have some sort of bet running to see how long this topic will last.
Or a list of names for both sides of the issue and a scoring system, some fantasy football-style game in the office. ;)

Well, here's some facts for you. Powerplay participation is on a steady decline. You need only look at merit totals week to week to confirm this. Here's another fact: There's a roughly 2-1 proportion of players who want PP to be either weighted for open or exclusive to open. You need only look at Sandro's proposal thread or Obsidian Ant's poll for this.

If you want to do haulage or massacre missions with your friends, there's the BGS for you.

Right. It's good that you make wise decisions regarding your money. That said, it doesn't have any standing when it comes to designing a good game.

Heck, even the TOS agrees with me.

Not gonna lie. Framing all this as some kind of hideous Vault-Tec like experiment is the only way it all makes sense.

I mean, nerds from Cambridge, amirite? ;)

Fact check Sandro PROPOSAL is dead. Because Sandros has not posted in almost a year.

In Bromes defence, I have seen those comments made.
In the first S.O.G. thread, those comparisons were made as well as some other even more distasteful remarks regarding PvP'ers.

The mods did a good job of catching most and removing them, but if you go and look you'll see some were missed and remain there.

Fact check Sandro PROPOSAL is dead. Because Sandros has not posted in almost a year.

Sandro was just one designer of a team, he didn't post that thread about open only without a team discussion..

It wasn't Sandro's proposal, it was a proposal from the elite design team, Sandro just posted it and took the lead on discussing it with the community.

Him not being on the team may or may not mean the proposal is dead.

I'd say it's likely it's not dead, just not a priority.

And if FDev does nothing then Powerplay withers and dies like all their other abandoned features.

PP-PvP was uncoupled from C&P, and a restart for pledging was introduced to promote PP-PvP. Steps in the direction requested. Has it helped? Have the PvP crowd taken it up and revived it? No. Because it didn;t force PvP on anyone interested PP. If PvP players were really looking for an outlet, rather than targets, wouldn't consequence free combat have been a draw? Apparently not. Even after PvP concessions participation has dwindled. That seems to be clear evidence that OO won;t save PP.

ED seems more like a retirement home then a game. No heart attack moments, nothing to raise the blood pressure, everyone wins at Bingo. Feeding the ducks by the pond, grinding away knitting jumpers. Not the high adrenaline i initially thought it would be.

Wishful thinking. It was just Sandro spitballing. He said as much at the time. The sure way to decide if it is dead is to see of any action has been taken.
