Make Solo Powerplay PvE dangerous (targeted interdcitions using existing mechanics)

Welcome to my world- in fact to five years of asking FD to do just that. Blame FD for wanting more and more with less, and leaving a feature fallow for all this time.

Its not reducing gameplay as well if it makes you actually fly your ship- making you check your radar, who is there, how are they flying. Currently you have none of that with the endless hauling, or repetitive farming of NPCs back and forth from combat expansions with nothing else happening.

It toots the same horn like FD's crappy "incentives" to grind the engineers. Make the vanilla gameplay grindy, unfun and unneccessarily hard while waving the power creep sausauge as motivator. There is nothing to check your ship for if all you got is shyte peashooters when that very same equipment was perfectly fine for that gameplay before.

The problem is only engineered NPCs pose a threat, otherwise you'd need a wing of ten unengineered ships roving about- which would be interesting but at the same time a bit bland because you are then cutting out all the new weapon effects and variety it brings.

Even unengineered NPC are too bullet spongy on a 1v1 basis without engineered equipment. I'm not against harder enemies, btw. I'm against shoving them down players throats instead of letting players choose what they want to tackle.

This one is for Rubbernuke!

... and even with engineered equipment.
because
a) it doesn't make it more dangerous, it just takes longer (i'd love a combat style where you spend minutes to outsmart and outfly or being outsmarted and outflown to place a killing shot)
and
b) i reactivated my bhing sidey and outengineered it. the damage pool is still too small to kill a cobra in a haz res. of course it's faster than a npc cobra, so there is no danger attached as well.

Then how do you make general travel more dangerous? Without SC danger SC is just a straight line waiting game. As I keep saying, the NPCs are here to babysit you- to provide an impetus to fly differently.

And remember its you choosing to be an ace, not the game. You can be rank 5 and not be active that time (so you see less attention from high grade enemies).

You can't.

Look elsewhere for sources of danger.

But you can't do that either, because thats what you have to work with- otherwise Powerplay becomes a CG in all but name.

You can't make CZs more dangerous because that is bullet sponge hell (when thats the collecting side), and hauling?

I'd love PP to be rewritten, but going from what FD have told us (which admittedly is old now) this 'is it'.

Indeed - now were heading for "how challenging should NPCs be in general, bearing in mind the average level of engineering that players have engaged in".... ;)

In all seriousness, great news about the free upgrade for base-game owners.
Side note. I'd be curious to see how many long term players were still only playing the base game.

Players need to play to the feature- i.e. now engineering is 'unlocked' its down to you to manage your time to achieve that level. Features need to come with expectations of players.

I doubt that Frontier will make a significant amount of engineering a requirement in terms of the challenge posed by the game - especially given the complaints of the grind wall facing those who want to engage in PvP to get their ships engineered.

Then there's the fact that Frontier already know how much engineering each player has done - which may have already informed their decision making regarding the challenge posed by the game.

Which is really not the spirit of this proposal- what it is, is to pose a threat to players and its up to them to overcome it- there is no requirement to engineer but it is one way to make life easier. ATR being a good example- I escape them in minimally engineered (if at all) Clippers, the same would apply to this idea- the only difference is that in this idea the enemy can pop up at any time, unlike ATR which tell you exactly when they are turning up.
