Mass Effect 4

The first patch out after release did away with a lot of the facial problems. Definitely a marked improvement.

The big patch got rid of some of the more obvious facial animation and basic model issues...

But only on some really bad and visible ones...

Game is still full of wired lines and not very believable/immersive behaviours of some characters. Broken facial animations were irritating that's for sure, and I`m glad they managed to fix them. But you cant fix deliberately awkward looking facial models and writing.
I cant believe I`m still angry at this game but I guess it happens when you love the franchise and someone just take it and ruins it.

Tempted to get it but I'm waiting for the majority of issues to be patched up. Any word on when they will be fixing broken animations and redoing some of the faces? It's one thing for them to say they are going to fix things but money talks. I'll wait till they come through and actually do something.

It was patched a couple weeks ago which certainly helped sort out the most obvious sins, although there are still moments of hilarity to be had in campaign mode. Pretty sure there will be another patch along in due course along with the new characters fer multiplayer...its still missing drell, batarians, quarians and vorcha. Anyone who has played the campaign will remember the part where they said their ark was delayed because of life support systems fer so many species on one ark, so it is on its way ;)

170 hours in now, did a plus one restart on insane difficulty after completing on hardcore...its nigh on impossible to get any traction on a fresh start on insane...damage levels are just too high...well they were fer me. Doesnt feel like insane though...comparable to gold waves on me3 and platinum its not. One hopes that just like me3, platinum difficulty will come later because gold level gets too easy too fast ^

100%ed all of the worlds without doing the Architect missions. That seems to be a bit odd to me, but whatever. Have started a NG+ up a level (hardcore), enemies are noticeably tougher so I'll potter through it and see how I get on.

I was very disappointed by the final mission. Nowhere near the scale and all-round epic-ness that ME1 and ME2 had, and though the ME3 ending wasn't great, after having spent so much time with the characters at least it had impact. The Kett were not great baddies, final boss was pretty uninspiring, maps were also uninspiring. Not sure whether this was a pure issue with the writing, or whether there were time problems which affected everything.

EDIT: It's definitely a writing issue. There was no real sense of urgency driving the gameplay unlike the others in the series. Badly written final scenario? Maybe. But also maybe badly written/stereotypical adversaries and badly written/annoying allies. I didn't feel the particular need to fight the final scene either because I hated the enemy OR wanted to help the allies.

Still 7/10 for me. I am enjoying playing it on & off, but feel that it should be a much better experience.

I's a nice game, to me it's not something that keeps my attention locked, I wander on and off, mostly because it's not keeping me interested in the game characters.

Its quite possible to get a planet to 100% viability before ye even place the outpost...anything ye do after that increases AVP which will keep increasing even after all 5 planets are at 100%. Afaik, this is by design even if it doesnt really make sense.

Point to note...no matter what ye do, one simply cannot unlock all 19 perks with AVP. That progression tree is finite so perks need some thought put into them to get the best ones, which fer me personally means unlocking the consumable slots in the military section.

I will agree that the final mission lacks a little of the urgency and imo shouldnt be easier than fighting the remnant architects which can be a nightmare to kill...biotics are more or less useless against them.

Am currently working on flirting with both Cora and Peebee at the same time, although Cora is a one man guy whereas Peebee is easy and has a bright future as the fun mistress. I do have to wonder how practical it is in low gravity...best to keep tissues at the ready ^

This is my second time around after completing it...this time on insane which I have to admit feels too easy. Was hard at the start but not so much now...fights are hard and fun, but its not what I thought insane would be...hoped fer harder but thats just me.

The ending, while a little underwhelming is still not as bad as me3 and leaves the franchise open with a whole new set of storylines and a new galaxy to expand on. Point to note the Kett arent native to andromeda so they certainly arent beaten yet and theres the quarian ark mystery which still hasnt been explained. And then theres the remnant themselves, or the Jaadarl I think was the name that dropped as a hint?

I'm the same with ED lol.

Managed to borrow a friend's PS4 copy of MEA and I can say it didnt hook me at all. Like Bethesda's products, MEA felt very unpolished and, honestly, a bit old.
A no-buy for me.

For a game that's been in development for so long it certainly seems that way, but it really does hold on to you once you get past the first few hours of gameplay. For me, it had just about enough to keep me interested and I managed to finish it up to 96% of the game. That said there were some massively glaring bugs that really should have been fixed, i mean I somehow managed to romance 2 of the main npcs, they merged into some kind of monster which just looked weird. Then there was a few times where multiple versions of the NPC's would be in the cut scenes all merged together, some really painful looking neck craning by the main character (almost on Fallout new vegas levels here). Several missions appeared when they shouldn't have -one that involved all the colonies including ones I hadn't been to yet springs to mind...

I'd go for more, but "My face is tired"...

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I finished the game but have not completed a bunch of the side content, including the Krogran colony planet. I've tried to go back and finish those but just am not motivated yet. ME:A is a great game and does a lot of things really well, but at the same time it's missing some of that special je ne sais quoi that the trilogy had. I think for me the biggest issue is its unfocused nature (going full on open world may not have been a good fit for the ME series). I always felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of 'stuff' to do that was clogging up my quest log. When everything is important, nothing is. For a storytelling game that's not good.

Now that said, I really did ultimately enjoy my time in ME:A. The combat was fantastic. The visuals were awesome (minus the oft-lampooned animations). Some of the characters were good, although none of them approached the levels of Mordin or Garrus.

So confession time...who hit the trigger supplying the distraction which led to male ryder and another male character to have a little smootch? Even by accident though later, its so much fun deciding whether or not to shoot him in the back or let him escape.

Decisions decisions...and why can I not flirt with Drack? Oh and the engineer Gil appears to swing both ways too with past boyfriends on the nexus and a present day girlfriend  Maybe Im just twisted cos Ive already had half the crew and the fish lady who runs the museum on aya is putty in my hands now...tonight or tomorrow at worst I reckon ^

Its the one liners between yer squad mates when they chitter to each other in the nomad or the tempest that get me and have me spitting tea out. Put Drack and peebee in the squad and just listen to them to each other...fer one liners, I absolutely love Peebee ^

Well, I agree with that, ED keep dragging me in due to the freedom of travel around and the flight model, but the gameplay is not keeping me there.
Right now it's IL-2 Cliff of Dover and the east front in Russia that keep me playing on my PC. It's pretty simple, fly towards enemy, kill enemy and return to base, but it's sooooo immersive that I can't stop playing it :)

Having played this on my new PS4, the game came with the console as a birthday gift, I'm just not feeling it. Admittedly I have played 20 plus hours of it just seem repetitive, way to much hand holding for my liking, an well after seeing space rendered beautifully by Elite Dangerous, mass effect andromeda looks lame by comparison, I hate the fact I can't fly the ship!. I will probably complete it because I won't get any more games until the end of the month, apart from PS Plus freebies.

20 hours in is barely enough time to have opened up the first planet and the game is a bit slow at the start...thats assuming yer sticking to the campaign and havent even unlocked the APEX missions yet. Yer honestly judging a book by its cover cos 20 hours in is peanuts...ye think ED could be fairly judged after 20 hours play?

I would completely disagree about space looking better in ED...MEA has that well and truly nailed and makes the planets in ED look like frak all squared. Each to their own I suppose but I will ask, which planets do ye mean? Eos is a desert planet, not much to see but sand. Have ye seen Havarl or Veold yet? Ones a cross between the arctic and the alps and the other is an alien jungle...unlocked those yet? With just 20 hours in, I highly doubt it and after those first 3, yer still not even halfway finished. Im 200 hours plus and still dont have an outpost on the last planet of Elannen which is like eos on steroids.

Also...its not a game about flying spaceships, its a shooter at its core...being disappointed about being unable to fly in MEA is like me saying Im disappointed I cant run and gun in elite...how serious would ye take that argument in ed? Comparing the two off each other is like comparing quake with minecaft...they are fundamentally different by design.

But however...new patch and DLC expected soon...then we shall see. Im really hoping to see the old platinum difficulty make a return, insane is just too easy and the gold apex missions can be farmed with high level characters. Heard a rumor of expansions to the main campaign but its the internet, so pinch of salt and all that. As fer yerself...ye barely scratched the surface with just 20 hours in...really ^

I feel sick.
Because of a bunch of click-bait and overly negative critics and a hate train ,showcasing the worst of the worst the franchise is on ice.

Gosh I hope this is not true. but chances are it is.

It might not be perfect , but outside of a few rare games (ED included) ME:A was one of the few that I got invested in. 80% of games I find boring , but ME:A got me. might just be due to the setting and lore , but nothing came close to pulling on my heart strings in a long time.

I dont know what to say , I want to go on a rant but its pointless.

I get the feeling something like that was on the cards from the beginning. For starters, no "season pass" no offered story DLC (in spite of the hints) & EA has a good deal of history in the way it completely messes up it's biggest franchises...

The "ambient" writing for the game is great, with a lot of the incidental content being hilarious.

It's the core writing that isn't great, IMO. I had real problems caring about half of my squad, almost all other NPCs, and the main storyline in general!

ME2 and 3 had no season pass.

At least the rumour has it that ''its on ice'' but , if it comes back will it be the same?

(MAJOR SPOILERS)
It has to continue there is the quarian ark , the subplot about the darker side of the nexus and of course the hints at everything in the milky way being dead...
(MAJOR SPOILERS end)

They are working on StarWars , thats cool. the new canon is the best thing to happen to StarWars post Empire. but even if SW is the most important part of human art and fiction to me , MassEffect is very , very close. and loosing it hurts.

I have to stop getting invested in things.

To avoid future disappointments I am going to assume every entry in a franchise is the last from now on.

I guess everyone is different. I loved everyone (apart from liam , he was a danger to the squad and lacked respect for the lost)

But then again , I hate many things that most love. so maybe I am the issue.

I'm just bitter with them over what they did to C&C...
