MATERIAL TRADERS FILTER in Galaxy map IS COMPLETE USELESS

The mats trader filter in Galaxy map shows you -for example- an Encrypted Material Trader
- if you have already visited him
- if he is not more than 40 LJ away from you
See paragraph "Materials Trader" in: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/409098
This is complete senseless! Because:

You can find any mats trader easiest everywhere in Galaxy if you
- Filter for the Economy - then open system map with the economy you filtered and check the station services.
* For Raw Material Trader filter Extraction/Refinery systems.
* For Manufactured Material Trader filter Industrial systems.
* For Encrypted Material Trader filter Military/High-Tech systems.
The only issue here is, that you
- must be able to open the system map (visited the system already or buy/bought the systems data)
to check the station services.

This way you find a Material trader for the materials you like, even if he is 200LJ or more away from you.

So if you now think: "THE MATERIAL TRADERS FILTER in Galaxy map IS USELESS", then you're totally right.

This filter would be NOT useless, if it show ALL the filtered Mat Traders every time, no matter if you already visited or not
and no matter how far away he is from you. This would make sense.
But atm with those limitations to the 40LJ and that you must already had visited the trader - there is no sense behind this filter.

Edit - inserted from a later post of mine from page 8:

Out game resource to find material traders: https://eddb.io/

Choose Stations. At 'Has Facilities' -> choose Material Trader from drop down list.
At 'Economy' choose 'High Tech' for Encypted Mats Trader, 'Industrial' for Manufactured Mats Trader, 'Extraction' for Raw Mats Trader..
Insert the system you are at 'Reference System' and click 'Find Stations'.

Helpfully, the traders normally only appear in systems with >= 1 million population, which are the systems which come pre-explored.

I was looking for one a week ago, obviously none on the normal map because I hadn't been to that bit of the galaxy ... a switch to economy filter with a population limit on it and I found one on the second system I opened the map for.

Anyone remember when there were all the complaints from players about black markets showing up on the station services list all the time rather than just when you already knew they were there?

My peeve with the system filters is that, even when I do have one I have visited within 40 Ly I still have problems zeroing in because only the star changes colour and I have problems seeing it....why can't we have a large flag like we have for Bookmark ; Mission or Friend tags ?

I agree 100%.

Currently the best way I know of to find the closest traders is to do an INARA search.

My thoughts on this from a different thread:
The problem with this (just like with most C&P changes) is that nothing is communicated in the game. There clearly is a filter option on the galaxy map, so yes, without any explanation people will assume that it does exactly what it says: display material traders.

Even reading all the patchnotes it's easy to lose track of every little if and but regarding certain in-game mechanics. A lot of things wont make sense for a new or less involved player who rightfully expects a certain coherency from the game.

I'd like to add that it's not only counterintuitive that this specific galaxy map filter works differently, it also doesn't add anything of value to the gameplay. It's basically forcing you to play battleship when all you want to do is talk to some npc.

The Services Filter is completely broken and has been since the day it first appeared in 3.0 Beta 1!

I filed three separate bug reports for each of the three Beta versions, but never got a reply from FDEV to any of them. And of course, all the issues I was seeing way back on day one of the 3.0 Beta are still there today.

Needless to say, I have been using the INARA search page whenever I need to track down a trader.

Yes, right - there is INARA to find the Traders. But the filter is implemented. In Game. And how it works is useless.
So Devs spent time to program this what they better had spent for more important fixes.
Or program it the right way useful up from the beginning.
A trader... which hide himself from the customers. Funny...

And yes - that would be great, if each of those traders own a office in the engineer bases too.

40ly visible range :S.... its designed for Corvette range?

One jump with explorer 60ly jump ship and you can easily miss almost all traders... INARA forever. External databases are better than whole search in game. Thats make nice picture about game.

Agree with OP to an extent. Filters should work on any system, regardless if visited, map data known or any of that, at any distance. Proliferatoin of information is already a major issue with this game, how that was missed with these, is surprising.

Thanks for this.. another pointless feature introduced by Frontier that I have spent at least a good hour or two trying to waste time figuring out why no material traders were appearing on my map.. jumped a few systems... Waited for map to refresh etc. Blah blah.

POINTLESS. WHY FDEVS? JUST. WHY? Stuff like this is killing your game and you can't even see it!!!! That's the funniest part.

All you have to do is read every single post above mine. Because EVERY SINGLE PERSON who has posted so far think this (and many other features in your game) are pointless. AND YET YOU, AS THE GAME DEVELOPERS CANT SEE THIS. Weird that. Don't you think....?

"Our commitment to reading your feedback, working through your bug reports and engaging with you in constructive and positive discussion remains as steadfast as ever"

Ye. Right.
