MattG's Observatory plugins

Hi, I'm also running into this error:

Error in Observatory Botanist while handling ScanOrganic: Value cannot be null. (Parameter 'key') - { "timestamp":"2023-01-13T15:30:20Z", "event":"ScanOrganic", "ScanType":"Analyse", "SystemAddress":0, "Body":0 }

It looks like I can ignore it, but can it be filtered out somehow? Slightly annoying at startup...

That one is mine, not MattG's. I'll look into it!

I've added a new plugin for the Galactic Exploration Catalog. It's quite simple - it'll show you the 50 nearest POIs, their approximate direction as well as their ratings. Have some improvements in mind, but most are waiting on Vithigar to finish UI rewrite for Core.
You can grab plugin here
Just wanted to say thanks for adding this, had a quick look (although I'm not exploring at the moment) and it looks great. One question, is there any way to tick off the sites you've visited so the 50 nearest list gets limited to sites you haven't been to yet?

There's not, and I think a non-faffy implementation for this will need Vith's UI rewrite for Core first.

I'll have a think on it though.

Edit: I had a think, and I may have a way to do this - leave it with me

Is there any way to sync the data between two computers?
You'd need to copy the journals between both PCs. Hit Start and type %UserProfile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous - this is where the Journals live. Probably an idea to make backups before you start messing with them. They are named with a timestamp so ought to be unique across both PCs.

Thanks, but it never works out when I start changing settings in ED, as soon as I jump to another system it starts working as intended, so I'm good with that.

BioInsights is a game changer for surface exploring / collection. Just the ability alone of notifying when you have traveled far enough and not have to get out of the SRV to check is fantastic.

After system scan, Bioinsights predicts a number of possible species, once the full scan is done certain species may get marked off (currently indicated by a red x). I think a 'strike through' across the full line in this case would be a nice indicator, or an option that hides/removes those items from the list once found.

It doesn't appear that the sorting is working (like by 'base value' or 'seen'), not sure if that is ObservatoryCore problem, or could be me. It may be complicated as one would want to keep the species grouped by Body Name, but sorted within that group.

I also use EDDiscovery heavily. Any thoughts on implementing BioInsights into that as a add-on?

Glad you're enjoying BioInsights.

A squadron member also recently requested the ability to hide biologicals not present and I've actually just finished that option, so that will be there for the next release. It won't be enabled by default so be sure to check in settings.

At the moment, Observatory Core doesn't support sorting. It is in the pipeline but Vithigar is also in the midst of a UI rewrite so not sure when we'll see it. As you state, sorting is not trivial so even when Core supports it will be down to plugins to implement it in a way that's appropriate to the plugin. I am hoping to add a few more sorting options into BioInsights (for possibly the next release, to appease a different squadron member) but not sure it'll be what you're looking for.

I have looked at EDD support in the past but there are a number of hurdles I'd need to overcome. In the short term, BioInsights will remain ObsCore only but maybe EDD support will be a longer term goal.

I've updated BioInsights, changes include:
  • show how many samples taken of current bio
  • notify when samples taken
  • notify of atmospheric landables with/without bios
  • improve ordering of planets in UI
  • optionally allow "current" planet to be at top/bottom of UI
  • added an option to export seen bios in excel/sheets format (under settings)
  • option to hide bios in UI that are confirmed not present
  • added a different icon to bios that have possibly never been seen anywhere
  • fixed Tussock Divisa being predicted in Izanami
  • tweaked various bio requirements

I've also updated CodexCompanion to include the tweaked criteria

Both can be downloaded here

(Edit: tiny fix applied)

Flippin' awesome! hang on ... checks date of post ... phew, NOT an April Fool either.

Hey MattG, it would be cool if you would include a summary of what each of the plugins do on the website (or at least a link to this thread), as that stumped me a bit when exploring this tool/site for the first time. (Shoutout to Griff Rogers for pointing me to it)

I keep meaning to write some documentation on website but for some reason I never manage to get around to it 😂

Also - when opening the BioInsights Symbol Legend, the pop-up window doesn't show up in the taskbar, meaning I have to hit Win+D to bring it back up if it gets lost behind all my other windows (including Elite itself). Mildly annoying!

I have a slight problem with the new BioInsights update , No matter how i install it , every time i check for BioInsights update , it always says I'm using the wrong version lol . I even deleted BioInsights all together and then did the update , then checked and I'm still using the wrong version .
It says :
You are running version 0.23.93.957
The latest release is 0.23.93.0957 [update 03-Apr-2023]
. It's probably something simple...Any clue ?
