Prepare the pitchforks and burning torches these Frontier types are getting cheeky! ;) :p

Normally I'm a pretty patient man, but this particular game has really gotten to me. Which of course is a good thing for the developers... ;)

However, if I had worked over at FD people in this forum would have killed me a long time ago. They have been saints compared too the amount of teasing I would have inflicted upon the community! :p

Milestone day you say? Care to expand on that?

(I'm guessing no. ;) )

What this guy's at FD don't understand is that WE the OLD ELITE FANS, are in an age that any delay can be deadly, some will not live as long to see the finished ED... common admin it ... most of us are hanging around in a wheelchair :D

I can't really give you specifics, but milestone days come around every month or so and its just a target you shoot for to make sure development is staying more or less on course. It usually means a big(ish) update to the current build of the game as well.

As I said: No. :p

Yes, I understand the concept of milestone days and having it at the end of a month makes sense. Have fun with the new build!

*mumbles*
You *******!! :p (Hmmmm...let's see if I can get around those stars, shall we?)

You illegitimate son! :p (There! Much better!)

How many ships has he been working on (I assume there are more than one 3D artist doing ships)? How many are "finished"? (nothing is ever finished until you hit the deadline ;) )

Is the entire cockpit modeled so that you in theory could spin your head around and look backwards into the ship or is it a forward view only?

To what level of detail are the interiors (other than the cockpit) done on the ships at this stage? Just boxed out in a rough manner or actually modeled to a higher degree?

Are the textures used on the ship procedural in some degree so that a greater variation in "paintjobs" can be achived?

I'll might be back with more questions later...when are you planning to interview him?

The bolded parts. I must know about those bolded parts.

Make it so!

Great interview once again :)

Great interview! Thank you.

What is the largest 3d object in the galaxy that has not been procedurally generated?
I'm not really sure, I tend to just work with whatever test assets I can most easily grab (currently I spend my time in a debug universe that contains nothing but a plane, cube, pyramid, sphere and teapot) - I guess it would probably be one of the stations, they're pretty big.

So the layout of stations are fully handmade both when it comes to the exterior and interior?

I recently watched an X-Rebirth video about creating stars and planets, and it mentioned the problem with texture-mapping (or whatever the correct technical term is) at the poles. The way the texture converged looked really awful, and their way around the problem was to say, 'You can't fly there'. Given that restriction hopefully won't occur in Elite, does that mean that the graphics guys have got an alternative solution?
