Meet The Team and Q&A - Richard Newbold

Hehe, thanks for answering my crafty question! [big grin]

I'm really excited about the modular building system. Much of my time in RCT3 was spent building extravagant Main Streets and food courts, although it was fun, it was time consuming, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the next Dev Diary to see how this new system will work!

And while I'm slightly relieved you guys are doing a piece-by-piece approach to coaster building (spline-based seems to just be too hard to compromise between ease-of-use and flexibility), I'm hoping the new coaster editor is more flexible than RCT3's... I was expecting something similar to Coaster Crazy, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see! [tongue]

Thanks for the answers! Everything is looking great :)

Since you asked, and maybe you'll come back I do have two quick questions.

1. I was a little disillusioned with not being to have a 'spline-based' coaster editor. Your last game almost had that ability in its own unique way (screamride). Can you tell us a little more about the 'piece by piece' system and how it will be different from what we have seen in the past (rct3).
2. I think everyone loves what we have seen from the mascots, but all we know is from still images or videos. Whats a cool little feature or detail you can tell us about them?

Thanks for answering our questions!
If you come back tomorrow to answer more, can you explain a little more about the piece-by-piece coaster editor and what freedom we will have when creating coasters?

Hey Banned0bon and Lettuce. Concerning more information about the piece by piece building system I got tis for answer:

"Keep your eyes peeled, they'll be more information coming in a future dev diary!"

Everything mentionned it´s only fantastic. The joy that you can feel the team atomises. I believe that this is far more than PR. This is so cool [tongue]

I have one question Richard. Could explain a little bit about how to integrate the vip ticket into game? Do I have to design my own char or is there somebody at frontier looking at photos and design them? I'm not that designer therefore I'm asking

Hey guys!

I'm back with some more responses.

1. I was a little disillusioned with not being to have a 'spline-based' coaster editor. Your last game almost had that ability in its own unique way (screamride). Can you tell us a little more about the 'piece by piece' system and how it will be different from what we have seen in the past (rct3).

1) We're using all of our experience from previous coaster games that we've made to create the best ever coaster creation system. It'll be piece by piece but with even more control that we provided in ScreamRide to allow you to build the greatest coasters yet. We’ve learned a lot from each game we’ve made, we’ve developed coaster construction controls for control pads, motion controls, touch screens and obviously keyboard and mouse. Planet Coaster is going to benefit from 15 years of mistakes as well as 15 years of improvements. We really believe in the approach we’re taking and are confident you’ll share our views once you get to try it yourselves.

2) The crowd are going to react to the mascots regardless of whether it's a good or bad performance. Whether the mascots perform well or not will be up to their training level which will be all under your control. We have some nice materials lined up about this in the upcoming dev diaries and votes. Choose wisely!

Thanks for answering our questions!

See my response to Banned0bon for more information.

We'll be providing people who purchase the VIP Ticket the ability to select their character design. We'll then add those into the game so that they appear in the park. We haven’t finalised how you’ll make this selection yet, but we’ll be sure to let everyone know when we’ve decided.

Thanks for replying back :)
I hope I didnt come off negatively, as I trust that you guys have the best in mind for the game. It was just when one has a feature in mind and we are told something different, it makes us worry. I won't pass judgement until I truly see what has been developed. You've shown in the past that you truly take every community suggestion to heart.

Btw, I'm happy to hear mascots are gonna have more a role than in the past with guests. Looking forward to that!

Hey all,

Thanks for joining. As with all Meet the Team articles.

This is now being made available for everyone to see all the great answers from your questions.

Thanks for getting involved!

Zac

Thanks for this interview and for your answers.

If you could ask the Planet Coaster community one question, what would it be?
What's the longest you've ever had to wait queuing for a ride, and what did you do to occupy the time?
Wait : 3 hours.
Ride : Big Thunder Mountain
Park : Disneyland Paris
Time : A weekend, in August (during the french school holidays)

We were a group, we discussed (all, and nothing) + The Disney queues are themed, so it's easier too.
But I never went back to Disneyland (or any other theme park) during a weekend or school holidays after that.

A little bit late with a questions, and I apologise if they have already been asked.

1. In RCT3 there was a whole host of scenarios and challenges that had to be accomplished across a variety of different 'worlds'. Will Planet Coaster have the same or similar setup?

2. Secondly, we will be able to create fireworks displays?

Thanks again

I think they will not answer in this thread.
The Q&A is for Coaster Head Club and it took place last week. [happy]

Weird, I waited for 2 hours for the same ride because it kept breaking down. People were sitting on the floor by the time they got everything working.

1 hour, and i thought about what i could do instead of waiting[blah][blah]
i just have one question:
what is your one favourite thing about planet coaster?

Sawyer1

Planet Coaster Ambassador
Amazing information! As for the question,

The Smiler
4 Hours
Group of friends, we kept each other entertained!

Great read. Thanks guys :)

The longest I have ever queued was 2 hours 45 minutes for Nemesis in Alton towers in the UK. Still my No. 1 coaster. We just had to talk amongst ourselves and admire the themed scenery back then when it first opened. :)
