General [MEGATHREAD] Rebalances and fixes for the progression system, risk/reward ratio, ingame learning curves, pvp, and more!

It's a familiar trajectory.

Might be worth saying once more: FD cannot get rid of block or change it to comms only. They have no control over it on console platforms. They could only do this if they restricted the game to PC only. It's an idea whose time has gone.
They could restrict the change to PC only. It's not like there is any interaction across platforms anyway.

The only thing I would be okay with being open only is powerplay. There is zero reason to have the BGS open only and it doesn't make any logical sense for it to be open only. Doing that would kill solo and private groups.

Generally people like to think that what they do makes a difference, you would be completely removing that from solo and private groups thus ruining those modes.

BGS is a PvP activity by design. Making the interaction optional creates an atmosphere of paranoia and distrust within that mechanic.

BGS in solo/PG is toxic to the community. Full Stop.

This has nothing to do with the OP, but any PvP/BGS related gameplay relies on documentation created by the community instead of through the game itself. And attempting to figure out who you are fighting during BGS conflicts requires hunting through the entire community like a troll.

I'll defend open only BGS and encourage more in-game documentation all day long.
I'm sorry but the BGS is a PvE environment. Shooting other commander ships does virtually nothing for the BGS, unlike powerplay.

While i would like to see more of a game in open, hard to not agree with this, ship kill usually dont even lead to mission failure in bgs, except some scan missions, in power play killing ship removes any merits or cargo merits they have, but more important is that power play not offer anything special other parts of the game have, unlike BGS, and for inividual player progress power play is useless past 4 week module grind, and it's only thing that should be allowed in solo/pg in powerplay, everything else, big smacking No!

No, it isnt clear at all, but it seems to be getting clearer.

BGS being open only was a long discussion and most agree on it being open only.
Sorry but there us no truth in this.

Affecting the bgs of powerplay through solo literally prevents anyone from preventing you undermining them, let alone messsing with someones system states , or steam rolling it from an invisible mode no one can reach, why should that stay a thing? How is that fair?
Powerplay yes I agree. The BGS I don't. You can just do stuff that influences the BGS to counter whatever they are doing. Also systems don't belong to anyone. Nobody owns them and if I want to go to a system in solo or a private group and help a faction, I am entirely entitled to, as you nor anyone else owns that system or faction.

Its a shame alot of these "opinions" are considered so controversial just because some people cant live with the danger of their ship being destroyed, consensual or non consensual, its called elite dangerous, not elite solo mode ez mode, its also marketed as an MMO, which is arguable with how you can bypass any player interaction with aforementioned methods.
They are not considered controversial. They are considered wrong, because they are wrong.

If anything im very proud and happy with one of our new cms.
I'm not, because he is wrong.

If you want to reward for the risk of PvP, make the reward come from actually doing PvP, not just for floating around in open, instead of getting paid for the chance at extra risk.

This actually makes sense. Especially if it could be limited to non-ganky PvP (I got the impression this was mostly about PP/BGS). So, fighting faction/power enemies would definitely qualify for this reward. As would collecting a bounty, or surviving an attempt on yourself as a wanted CMDR. The most difficult one is piracy - how to differentiate it from ganking (ie. salt-motivated murder)? Well, an obvious one would be to grant rewards for pirated cargo - and remove or reduce the reward, if the victim is killed. Selling stolen goods to a black market could improve rep with the criminal faction running it (AFAIK there nominally isn't one, but could be just the most influential local criminal faction). On the other hand, traders and miners should also benefit for taking the risk in Open... This is a bit more difficult... perhaps a modest trader and/or combat rank progression for escaping pirates? Reputation with the faction controlling the station where you sell the remaining cargo and/or repair your ship - surely they appreciate your efforts to keep them supplied?

Of course, then there's the issue of exploiting any such system. Which is why we can't have nice things. 😢

BGS and Powerplay absolutely should not be impacted by activities done in solo, at least for PC. For consoles, I think it's fair to allow solo/pg since they need to pay to play online games.

The trouble is, this game has few enough players as-is; intentionally rejecting the players who don't like pvp isn't a great way towards getting a solid playerbase. And this game inherently biases towards non-combat players, so expecting to fill in the gap with new players isn't realistic.

The best solution would be one where pvp-related activities are recognized and rewarded, but aren't outright superior to the other options.

Given the stated purpose of the BGS it definitely should be affected by activities done in Solo. The same goes for PP as actually implemented, although I can see a case for making it into a kind of PvP feature with some modifications.
