Menu Logging as a legitimate defense for ganking or nonconsensual engagement in Open

I wouldn't encourage anyone to 'game the game', but it's not my business to tell people how they should play, that's FD's job, and they've made it pretty clear what their position is on menu-logging and board flipping, they don't approve, but it's tolerated (reasons why are irrelevant here)

What a lot of people seem to miss however is that menu-logging and board flipping are two sides of the same coin. Both are using the main menu to gain an advantage in a way that wasn't intended by the devs. Putting aside all the reasons people use to justify to themselves (and to others) why they do, why it's good or bad or whatever, you can't say 'board flipping is good' and then turn around and say 'menu-logging is bad' (or vice-versa) without the risk of looking like a hypocrite.

My personal opinion, if someone logs you win by default, what's the problem ?
Deprived of your sense of power ? Here, have a tissue.
It's just a game, right ?

I really don't get this insistance that you have to see the ship blow up.
You've completed your objective and disrupted someone from going about their business haven't you ?
Is being denied a few pretty pixels really worth creating a KoS list ?
Even to the extent of assuming ALL players will CL so get in hard and fast before they have a chance, we don't wanna miss those beautiful pixels !

I agree, you could not make this stuff up.
I makes me think RP really has nothing to do with it at all.

Having said all that (phew) I am of the mind that 'git gud' is preferable to logging. If you can learn to evade NPC's you can learn to evade gankers. If you can learn to fight top NPC's you can learn to fight human combateers. Or not, the choice is up to you.

To the OP i'd say do whatever works for you. 'legally' menu logging is ok, although many people do object to it strongly, and as I say, it's not an intended mechanic. Eventually I think the main menu exploits will be patched anyway.

attitudes like that are why ganks are done with frags.

that is a good example of what a frag gank does, and a lot of ganks are over even faster then that, i get the impression he took his time a bit with that one

Whenever people menu/combat log on me I honestly don't care. There are no PvP features in this game - end of story, any reasons you have for PvP are separate to the game world and is either organized outside of the game first, or takes the form of spontaneous griefing. You will never be assigned a reason to attack another player for some sort of reward - nor to effect the BGS in a favorable way.

Anyone who can look at that situation and think: "Yeah, combat logging is the problem", has chronic tunnel vision. If it's opinions like that, that will shape the game through it's development, then the whole game is truly ****ed and going nowhere.

This is the only reply that anyone should care about. Anti-grief, end of problem for everyone.

Actually the game does support PVP through the mission menu...Kill x pirates, Kill x Merchants will count PC's and well as NPC's.

But overall the numbers of real players available to do this is so small that the missions would run out of time if the player didn't just use NPC's.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I don't think encouraging people to menu log in a multi-player game whenever they are attacked is kosher on this forum.

Solo and Group modes exist to satisfy commanders who do not want the possibility of unsolicited PvP.
Closing.
