It seems strange that Law took Hiraga. By what we knew I thought either they would be fighting over Friend or Gabriel. So doesa that mean that we can simply go straight for Hiraga

It means we no longer care if one faction holds all the stations, we can simply go straight for the controlling station.

This thread has become a tad outdated so I will be creating a new one over the next 24 hours, that is far more relevant. Thanks to everyone for reading and their input, especially the devs.

Once I finish creating the new thread I will ask the moderators to close this one. The new thread will be very similar, but more along the lines of the background simulator bugs, rather than our lack of understanding of it. Thanks to the dev's responses in this thread, we now know far more about what to expect from the background simulator and what actually has been implemented so far.

wouldn't it be better have a mod rename this thread ? With so many quotes about the persistant universe seems a shame to throw it in the dustbin.

It wont be in the dustbin. It will be linked, and Soda's compilation list of responses will go on.

Renaming it isn't all I want to do. I have several pages of issues I want to cover - I hit four in word while typing it up, and I really don't want to delete all the content on the first post to cover it. This thread will be linked at the begining. Trust me, it will be much more organized and much less confusing for newcomers this way.

Hopefully the devs will continue to answer questions over there. If not, its not the end of the world because they answer questions elsewhere on the forum anyway. Either way I'm sure they will read your concerns there whether or not they respond.

With all this amazing info, my question now is, if influence is system wide, how does one take over a minor station, and eventually the controlling station? It must be something separate from influence to trigger civil war.

Assuming you have a minor faction that doesn't control a minor station, I'm guessing a strategy would be to
A) Do mission for the minor faction until civil war erupts
B) Win the civil war to take over the station, giving ownership to the market
C) Do missions in the Controlling Station for your minor faction and trade at the minor station owned by your faction until civil war erupts at the major station
D) Profits

Does this make sense? Am I missing anything obvious?

What you have stated is how I understand it. Are we right in thinking this? :S :D
