Met My First Hacker Today

2 mins on google tells you everything you need to know. The guys in his late 20's and a well known greifer in a bunch of other online games, he has a ton of videos up on numerous accounts and even a twitch.

You're not dealing with a 12 yr old playing with his first game exploit but a full blown greifer who just doesn't care. He's kill on sight for me now and fd should be looking very closely at his account due to the number of reports against him and the millions of credits damage he's done to regular players through the use of a well documented game bug.

It appears that there is more than one of them at it. <someone else> was killed by the same pilot that killed me.

You'll need to remove the CMDR names I'm afraid - Forum rules

Edited: Nice one, already gone

As long as he isn't "Cheating", It's no different than a pirate blowing up a trader anywhere else... Aka Allowed by the game as it is. The patch will fix this particular issue eventually. But for now "IF" he's not cheating, he's just playing a psycho as everyone put it on the "Combat Logging thread".

No there's a difference between playing an actual psycho (which i'm ok with) and greifing a station due to an in game bug.

Lot off players complaining about me first thing if i fire my 4 dumbfire missiles every time when i hit the fire button you go down almost instant bigger ships take longer when use chaff and shield cell bank it take the station some time to kill me i die every time but whit the chaff launcher and shield cell bank i have a lot off time to escape or fire more if you dont know how it works fine but hacks no way i can fly arround the station when fire at me and still be alive for some time all dumbfire missile on 1 fire button sec button chaff and shield cell bank thats it you try it yourself and all the complains against me they should make weapon lock inside the station just like the mass lock remember online game play is dangerous.

If you don't find your own action a problem you won't mind posting your in game CMDR name will you? It will allow us to be sure to look out for you if anyone can be bothered to play Open again (I won't for a while).

Of course FD are going to address this.
I am not so confident. The first hacks appeared in the alpha version of E: D. So FD have known about it in a practical, not just theoretical, sense, for over a year. They did some obfuscation to make it harder to hack, but that is only harder, not impossible. Then what? We do not know, of course. Are they fighting an escalating arms race with the hackers, constantly changing stuff and forcing the hackers to keep up to date? Are they waiting to see how bad it gets? Something else? Somewhere in between?

I've also found information that states that the game is basically a single player game with "some" server interaction but almost everything is in the game client, it goes on to say that certain files can be edited to increase ammo clip sizes to 100000 and shield cells to infinity so they can be spammed like a God mode?

As a 84' fan and offliner that was told to "deal with it or leave" and boo'ed as a carebear because this game a "MMO" and advertised as it, i find this quite ironic to say the least.

Just put CMDR in front of his forum name. One and the same. all caps, though. It's no tnaming and shaming if he posts in the thread about him, and uses his own name now, is it?

If no central server is monitoring and validating player actions packets to make sure they are legit (approving them as in : client X says they hit target Y in this place, substract ammo and calculate damage --> validation and sending to client Y as "compute and display this"), and this is beeing done from client to client, this game will be very very easy to hack.
Data is easily spoofable, and client side protections are easy to work around. This was bound to happen and is the reason the gaming industry moved away from client to client direct connection. FD has to add telemetry for clients to send what's happening because at any given time they cannot track these things live.
Nothing prevents memory manipulation of values, like top speed, ammo, shield state etc. Now I'm sure some things stay validated by the server (you can see that when you make a transaction of commodities or sell cartographic data), but alot isnt, and FD will have to implement some heavy heavy stuff to prevent people from cheating everything handled client to client. Not even sure it's possible.

Will be interesting to see the "Why have my fps dropped to 20 since last patch?!?!?", "Why that's the anti-cheat telemetry shepherding all the data"..

This just happened to me before i could dock into lave station :( can you PM me the players name if you remember it? i want to know if it is the same guy
Not sure if I should say this, but if a cheater can hack all the things they want effortlessly, all they have to do is clear save and start a new game with a different name?

The logs will probably help DF to find them and the associated account, can't see knowing their names is going to help normal players. Just a thought.

Maybe its time for people to simply boycott open play until its fixed.

While I do advocate people to play in open. And I always do it myself. but if I was to run a rare route. I would never play in open due to exploits and cheats.

OK, thanks. So not the sample cmdr that killed me in GL earlier today with dumbfire spamming then... seems there is more than one deranged idiot abroad in that area...

This is why I've switched to solo, I can't trust any commander I meet in game. I don't know if they are doing wrong things. I've lost far too many credits to this. I spent ages building up to an Asp, to loose it while docking. So back to a sidey, now hauling in my cobra. But I can't go Open Play anymore. Everything is done in solo play. Though I miss seeing other players ingame, it's not worth the hassle of being ganked again.

join the PvE group, you get the best of both then as you can trust the cmdr's you meet not to be idiots.

as someone who plays all modes you have my sympathies, if we meet in game i'll drop you a few million worth of cargo to get you back on your feet - its not fair that decent players have to suffer just because of a few people who get their jollies by causing people pain.
