Met My First Hacker Today

You believe a viper, properly equiped, can survive sitting in one place while the station concentrates all internal turrets on it for over 5 minutes? And you believe said viper can do this without its shields dropping at all? And that said viper never needs to reload its missile launchers, but can just spam an endless stream of dumbfires? Without hacking? Really?

No, no you don't believe that. Thanks for commenting though.

I believe it can be done for many minutes with chaff and shield cells, yes. As for the reloading, you get killed and respawn at the same station, rinse and repeat. Once you've got credits galore it's not a problem.

Beta 1.1 addresses some of these issues to make it harder but it is still possible to destroy ships inside stations. I only started testing survival inside hostile stations in Beta 1.1 (in solo) and was amazed how long I could survive as I'd previously lost trade ships seemingly instantly for not having docking permission. You'd probably be surprised how long something like a stock Python in 1.1 can survive hugging the outside of the station after blasting it with lasers too, the fire there is much less concentrated. You can get yourself into a fairly safe position and shoot ships for ages racking up 100Cr fines. Any ship returning fire risks hitting the station.

The station response needs to be much more harsh.

The OP's attacker says he isn't cheating and others in this thread have witnessed him taking damage and being killed. Where is the evidence of a client side hack?

Edit: Has anyone actually tested the kill time for a station against a Viper with reflective armour, chaff and shield cells?

I have no idea if they are cheating or not. If not they can carry on for as long as the game allows far as I am concerned.

When I had a bored period a couple of weeks ago. I killed a few commanders but I did feel guilty killing easy targets so I stopped it. I killed some wanted cmdrs which is okay. But when I took on equal or better ships it became too expensive to carry on.

I do not understand why they are doing it except that they are enjoying themselves and fun is the real currency in the game.

I have not been griefed myself.

I would like to know if they filter their victims in any way. It would seem to be better if you have an in game logic.

I'm curious as to how you think you can get around an invincibilty cheat.

And handing players an instakill ability is a very bad idea.

1. No idea. Not a programmer. Only an engineer. But if I see a bit thats broken or not running right. I fix it. I do not run it as this just makes it worse. Nor do I leave it as it creates greater more extensive problems that may lead to total failure in the future. This flaw, as I am now beginning to understand, is a flaw throughout the games industry. Forgive me if I had tended to ignore the complexity of the issues of gaming in general up until now, but this game deserves preservation.

2. There are a whole vast majority out there who are decent honest beings. They can referee a fair fight and although some may miss an honest tackle and award a penalty, on the whole they do their best.

The most scary part of this whole thing is that other players (like these "hackers", if they really exist) can get my IP through the game. DDOS is the least of my concerns, lot worse things can be done with this information. This should not be possible.

What? You've seen too many bad Hollywood movies.

One day there will be no more games to hack. By releasing their tools to users hackers are effectively killing their hosts.

How am I supposed to report them unless they kill me? I'm too busy releasing chaff and hammering down on the throttle to turn around and look at who's firing on me. I'm lucky I survived the onslaught. And believe me, I've never been under so much laser fire from within the station as well as outside the station. It seemed like there were at least 3, if not 5 of them all working together. It would be nice of Fdev to send out a fleet to the station and take these guys out, doncha think?

You know, there's a keybind for hostiles. It will target them instantly, no need to turn around.

If you have such concerns, you should cancel your internet subscription immediately and never touch a computer again. There is no need to use a game to get your IP, there is people out there who literally spend all day scanning entire networks to find active IPs to break in. Make sure your computer is updated and firewall protection is on, and that's it. Unless you work for the CIA or something like that, nobody will try hard to get into your computer - sending trojans via email is much simpler :)

What i have postet in the other thread.

Yes, this sounds the best way to be untill ED dont solve the problem.
Report the station where that cheaters are, and change to solo before entering the station.
This will make himthem very alone, as he/she is sure in real life.

If he/she is not a payed saboteur form another game company.

".... And do not worry over the protection of your account while using a hack.
Elite Dangerous hacks employ a vast array of protection options designed to keep your secret only yours!
And lastly, do not worry about the moral issue of using hacks. Everybody does it. There are even group of players who cheat collectively, which makes them stronger and more powerful."

Blurb from one of the MANY ED hack sites.

You know every website, forum, email server, etc. you've ever used had your IP, right?

Your IP address is of no use hackers unless you've got some specific vulnerability. Every web site you ever visit has your IP address, anyone you ever chat to on any messaging program, for any internet user your IP is probably the most well known and easily available bit of information about you.

This needs fixed urgently. I've been playing mostly Solo up until now. Private Group was next to useless as I couldn't communicate with friends in-game. The new beta made me try out Open with it, and then I decided I'd go Open Play in the release version for a while. I'd like to continue to play in Open as much as possible... but I don't want people using cheat utilities to ruin my game or that of anyone else. This was the reason I walked away from the DayZ mod. People spawning weapons and equipment in, people teleporting, unkillable players. It ruined that game enough for me that I left and never went back. Weapon lock inside station, countermeasure lock inside station would be a start.

Even if FD manage to identify some of the hackers, it seems that on these sites people are happy to write down step by step instructions on how to actually do the hacks#
So FD ban one person but don't stop the source , one site shows how to edit the ED XML files to give you increased clip sizes and shield cells. It also shows how to add a script that you can bind to a key in game that blocks and unblocks UDP traffic with your firewall basically meaning of you get interdicted you can cut the connection with your interdictor but keep your connection with the ED server so they don't know its even happened!

None of the explanations require any downloads either as far as I can see other than an XML reader or something.

Its pretty scary, I'm just glad I don't know naff all about programming, I feel sorry for FD with this, it won't be an easy fix if there's even a fix available I bet!

I've been splatted while landing my ship in a station by the one with the <snip>. I spent ages building up a very valuable cargo to haul 250LY and he soon put paid to that. Not happy. If I ever encounter the griefer I will shoot on sight.

And now given a warning for putting up a mangled version of the griefers name. Last straw, now playing solo from now on.
