I can confirm that meta alloys is there.. Just grabbed two out of 15.
I've ignored Engineers up till now. I finally decided that I might be interested in trying Engineers, and Felicity Farseer's specialism sounds my thing...as a new player, just getting into the game and wanting to do the engineering lark, there is very little in the way of information in game.. as to go where, and do what.
...
Getting meta alloys is now a big pain in the Asp, even more as a new player as Felicity is a good place to start... think FD should give more pro hints?
As far as I can see, Elite Dangerous provides NO in-game way to identify where meta-alloys might be obtained. .

I see she wants meta-alloys, and get this horrible sinking feeling. As far as I can see, Elite Dangerous provides NO in-game way to identify where meta-alloys might be obtained. That's about the worst bit of game design I've seen in Elite Dangerous. If I have to cheat & use information obtained by other players, and access it from outside the game, that is cheating as far as I am concerned. And also "immersion breaking". So yes, FDev should fix the game, and provide some sensible way of finding out about meta-alloys.
The second thing that's putting me off trying Engineers is that (it appears that) I'm now expected to travel about 430 Ly (about 40 jumps) to get there (and the same back), and even when I get there, going by this thread, it seems that I'll have to spend ages trying to find those extremely rare barnacles (which the game ALSO fails to give you any way to know where they are on planets, and even lacks the mechanisms for other players to easily tell you where to find them, aka Lat/Long coords).
Barnacle with Arsenic and Cadmium
Pleiades Sector LN-S B4-3
C 3
LAT/LONG -13.1651, -54.358
Take a disco scanner and also scan the barnacle so it appears as a permanent POI on your hud for when you come back at a later point.
Process is:
Shoot all the spikes
Hoover up what you need
Log out
Log back in
Repeat
Note that its RNG as to whether you get arsenic, however, these spikes will drop it at some point (its far quicker than bumbling around in an SRV looking for rocks).
The third thing that's putting me off Engineers is that I'm worried this isn't a one-off thing, and that every time I want to USE Felicity Farseer she will ask for more meta-alloys. No idea if this is true, but it's a worry. I might be prepared to make a 430Ly trip once, but not on a regular basis.
not true. the commodity market description gives all information you need, and than there is galnet. barnacles and meta-alloys have been found before it was possible to google where.
