Metric system in Elite

Yeah, ok. Here, a list of ten rocket accidents in case you think two is much.

As you may notice, only one of them is from NASA.
I think that you are missing my point:

NASA, spends tax dollars, on looking after NASA. NASA makes claims it cannot meet to get budgets, that are well over the actual cost of doing the job and then fails to meet its own costing targets. It is probably the largest gravy train on the planet.

Next time you 'goggle' ask about mistakes made by NASA. Or: Goggle the number of astronauts and Cosmonauts killed.

I miss Lewis Page and Andrew Orlowski too

Oooh, if they're gone I might start reading again. I got a little tired of them both using it as a personal soapbox to tirelessly bang on about their own policies.... which in Page's case involved absolutely ignoring any evidence contrary to his opinion.

Well, they talk a lot of old bollox that's for sure. It's feels a little dull though these days. Still the BOFH episodes on Friday are as good as ever.

Re. NASA - the Mars Climate Orbiter debacle is typically held up as the classic Imperial / Metric c*ck up.

What do you expect if the budget and plans from the NASA rely on the congress will? The only reason we haven't gone back to the moon is because of $$$$.

You also need to consider the goverment was pretty much pulling their hairs off watching the USSR get years ahead of them so they decided to show them (on the behalf of the crews safety) but it's well established space travel is dangerous so meh.

About the price, I don't know man but its not rare at all to get overbudget in complicated projects, especially when you are dealing with an industry at its infancy. Just look up for it in several buildings and such.

The Chinese usually manage to build things, on time and within budget.

India managed to get to Mars for a fraction of the cost of anything launched by NASA. Mind you they managed to get to Mars for about a tenth of the projected cost, of the HS2 U.K. rail project.

The British are very good at driving on the wrong side of the road. They have to do so, every time they leave the U.K. :D

Well, not everywhere they might visit...
