Metric system in Elite

*snerks at all the answers* You lot deserve all the reps.

Something i thought about well exploring. Why does Elite Dangerous use the metric system wasnt the United States the last surviving superpower at the end of WW3?

Even the US was on the verge of collapse at the end of nuclear WW3. There were no winners in that war. No nation survived intact. In the end it took a combined corporation effort to reach the stars. And since everyone else has pointed out how all the space agencies and majority corporations use metric... volia. Private enterprise and the common man were what it took to spread to the stars.

As usual Governments were the last thing to reform when everyone settled down and rebuilt.

To this day, the ancient powers of nations are a near myth and Earth stands united as a single planet in the Federation. The only true dividing factor now is the various factions.

So no. The US did not survive and nether did any other nation. While the Federation is certainly based off the US government, it's not a perfect replication and there are elements of other democratic entities. I believe the concept of President and Shadow President is based on Australia.

In a tragic misunderstanding, the US emergency broadcast gave people instructions to shelter underground at a depth of at least 5m and all the people who mistook that for 5ft died of radiation poisoning.

On the bright side, subsequent studies revealed that, as a result of this unfortunate incident, the average IQ of US citizens had risen by 23 points.

Priceless!
