I believe the concept of President and Shadow President is based on Australia.
I think you need to check that.
I believe the concept of President and Shadow President is based on Australia.
At least half a snes.
or 48000 Hut-kgs ...
germany sgot a minor issue with counting, even so failing has terrible impact
officially its > thousands, mils, milliards, billions, billiards ... (check here)
its no mystery to me why german banks go down ...
The US Armed Forces and also NASA (and US scientists in general) already used the metric system in the 20 century, so they just had to teach it to the civilians, well the few remaining ones after Kaboom 3.0.
As long as I get my beer in pints in the pub I'm quite content for everything else to be in metric.
A pint's the perfect amount for beer.
It's not like either was particularly "metric", both use highly local and ambiguous units (1AU and "year") in their original definitions.
You already know, that the USA is in the NATO and that it makes lot of sense to talk about the same units? And that the anachronism of the USA is just stupid? We did? Because on my ship, in 2001, we used nautical miles, yards, feet, gallons, degrees F, Psi, and long tons.
Not 1AU as in one Astronomical Unit
but IAU as in International Astronomical Union
The AU and the parsec are based on the movement of the Earth. But then the metre is also based on the Earth. It's one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole
The funny thing is the imperial system needs metric to be accurate.. while metric uses silicate to determine how many atoms are in it to accurately say what a kilogram is.
Metric > imperial
Deal with it.
One of the problems with Imperial / US Standard units is that they aren't the same all over the world. You probably expect your beer in Imperial (British) pints, and would be quite disappointed if you only got an American pint...
[Imperial pint = 568ml, US pint = 473ml]
The metric system is in many ways devised from the dimensions of planet earth, or a common substance (water)
Celcius and Kelvin are based on dividing the liquid state of water into 100 units.
Meter is based on the earth's dimensions (equator to pole / 10Million)
Metric mass is based on the density of water (1g = 1cm^3)
Time is based on integer subdivisions of the earth's rotation about its axis (day) and orbit around the sun (year)
So, uh (or should that be *duh*?) Metric is defined by planet earth, and since that's where humans originated from, it obviously makes sense that it's in use in human space.
Redefined, yes. But that doesn't change their origin.
hello,
You already know, that the USA is in the NATO and that it makes lot of sense to talk about the same units? And that the anachronism of the USA is just stupid?
The US is NOT using 'Standard' units. The US is using the odd units. world wide standard is the metric system.I wasn't attempting to argue about whether or not it's stupid for the US to continue using Standard units, I was addressing the error in the post I'd quoted.
Also, for the record, NATO countries still use the foot, mile, and MPH in aviation.
Space is metric.
NASA and organizations like it are military spinoffs. The military use metric because it's much easier doing things like range estimates in your head accurately in units of a thousand meters rather than in imperial with it's sixteen hundred and something yards. You can see how this would be an advantage in things like remote artillery fire direction.
It's a more efficient system.
We actually use milliards > billions in Poland as well![]()
I really like this image, puts things in perspective: https://i.imgur.com/fhxkMtn.jpg
Bonus points if you can name those two countries in asia and africa without looking them up.
Should add Canada in green... Not fun...
I drive at 100 km/h.
I'm 5'-10".
My house is built using a whole lot of 2X4's and 2X6's.
I cook my meals at 350of and I get grumpy when it's over 30oc outside.
Got 2ft of snow last month and 10mm of rain yesterday.
