Yup, and they are bad, really bad.. shoot you like there is no tomorrow.

they got me twice, 1 time i died, second time i barley escaped.

You can also see it on the comms.. "Someone took the bait" or something simulair.

When I first started playing, I jumped into a SSS and saw all these gold canisters and I was like "oh wow, Score!" Proceeded to scoop it up and was wailed on by a Conda and two vipers. Didn't last long as I was in a sidey at the time. Never done that again, lol. Lesson learned.

When I get a better ship (currently in a cobra ) I'll take the fight to them :p

Only a conda and two vipers? I've come across variants of that encounter that have either 6-8 elite vultures. Or 3-4 elite anacondas

Trust me, those "Trap" Pirates are nasty, somehow MUCH more aggro then others, and much, much more powerfull.

A5 shields zapped away in merly seconds

Keep forgetting to test this.

In other Signal Sources after a while the NPCs will get bored and jump out. I keep meaning to play the stealth game with them and see if they leave all the lovely goldz for me.

If I get time, will have a punt tonight.

Carefull, i realy think that instance with those pirates is programmed with only 1 objective.. "Kill you!"

I dont think they get bored.. Hell, i even aint got time to open the scoop, and target the cannisters.

I got out with 73% hull, so it wasn't that bad. There were around 5 pirates though I only saw one Vulture. I was taken by surprise and I was getting shot by all of them at once. The only thought I could process was "Run run run run run."

This is the primary reason why I hung up my mining laser several weeks ago and moved on to less annoying money making activities! I got sick and tired of being constantly harassed by those D Bag pirates, who sit out there amongst the rocks, waiting for you to find something good, and then swoop in and start shooting at you while you are in the middle of your mining activities.

I know this is all part of the game, blah blah blah... But when I got into the ZEN of mining (Which I was really enjoying), I hated having to pull up anchor so to speak and switch into combat mode, and in many cases, was not able to transition fast enough and suffered similar damage and in a few cases ship destruction! :(

I was doing all my mining in a Cobra MK III. I have never actually tried mining in my Asp. But it sounds like you didn't fair much better with that ship than I did in the Cobra.

Too bad there isn't some place in the game where you can mine is peace. :(

Exactly! I as doing all this after only being involved with the game for less than two weeks. The way my A grade shields were taken out so quickly, just as you describe, really lowered my confidence in my ship to have what it takes to handle ANY level of combat! :( That insecurity only grew worse over time, when even after upgrading my shields several times specifically to counter these pirates, even adding several shield boosters, yet seeing very little improvement, I really lost interest in pursuing any combat oriented activities/missions.

In fact, I just recently began to attempt some combat related missions after buying my Vulture. I still find it very hard to shake the opinion that most of these ships in ED are incredibly WEAK defensively speaking, and give you very little headroom for prolonged combat encounters. I personally find no comfort/solice in this in-game reality. For one thing, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a practical standpoint, that shields that cost so much $$ would offer so little real protection when called upon to do what they were built to do... PROTECT YOUR HULL AND YOUR LIFE!

He vissited a Strong Signal, entirely different beast. Also the fighter ship's are good, my scout can take as much punishment as a Viper with it's current setup. The Vultur with that oversized class 5 shield generator is a tough bird, even a downgraded A4 with a couple Booster's is a strong shield. Then there are the armor relient ship's like the Diamondback's, the Cobra, and Federal Dropship which are made useless because more armor doesn't protect internall's which mean they'll likely die before your hull does.

Thanks as usual for the valuable insights Stealth! I hear what you are saying... But do you understand where I am coming from in regards to seeing your shields fail so quickly after only a few hits?

In my experience with the Cobra for example, there was like maybe 20-30 seconds of time between the ship voice declaring "Under Attack! and the same voice saying "Shields Offline!". I am use to watching combat encounters on shows like Star Trek, where thy only start to have problems with their shields after a prolonged and nasty battle!

I just feel that your shields, for all their expense and attention we pay to them, should be able to hold up for at least a couple of minutes before they totally fail! I mean come on! I see all those segments of the shield when it SLooooooooowly recharges (Like watching paint dry), but never see those segments when the thing is taking hits. Its more like a light switch... ON and OFF! ;) Nothing gradual about it so far for me.

I'm obviously going to need to take the Vulture out soon for a few full sessions of combat related missions and visits to the various USS and RES areas. But I am definitely not going anywhere near the High Intensity RES areas! I know what those are like after stumbling into a few by accident. lol! ;)

If you drop into the RES areas, you most definitely will get hassle from other ships. I would suggest finding a planet with a metal rich ring and slowly fly towards the ring. Make sure you are some distance from any RES zones and as soon as you can start to see the rocks, come to a stop and exit SC. You can now boost into the ring and start mining. Remember to put your scanner on maximum range. If you do see another ship, just boost away from it. I rarely see any other ships if I do this and that is why I use a Type 6 with no shields.

A type 6 for mining and with no shields? WOW! That's ballsy! ;)

Thinking back to when I was mining, and to provide more specifics.... I was doing all my mining in a system called 60 Herculis. Ever been there? Can't remember the name of the planet, but I think it was the only Pristine ringed one in that system. The areas I would take my Cobra was called "Low Intensity Resource Extraction Site".

It all seemed pretty quiet there, and all I usually saw as I dropped out of SC were the beams of other mining ships working their own rocks. It stayed like that for a bit, but like clockwork, the second I started pulling out the good stuff like Panite and other $$$ rich stuff, all of a sudden I would see one of those typical pirate messages appear on my COMMS and then BOOM! "Under Attack!"

What I hated the most was having to leave a really good rock that was really paying off nicely. Just as I was getting into the groove of working my refinery and coordinating my Collector Limpets, I would have to drop everything and run away, or get blown up! I stayed and tried to fight a couple of times, but it always ended badly, so towards the end of my stint as a miner, I would just boost and jump to SC as fast as I could the minute I saw one of those COMM messages pop up.

I would always see several of those Fed Patrol ships cruising around the area, but none of them ever came to my aid when one of the D bags started trying to blow me up or steal my stuff! I am tempted to go back with my ASP. Not to do mining, but to pretend to be doing mining, and really baiting some of these jerks and blowing them up, like they did to me before! lol! ;)

I had the same thing when I first started, it was me and my friend in a wing two sidwinders we took one look at the gold and was on it like white on rice. Next minute this message came on comms and then loads of blips on my scanners, luck for my friend he was further back and just watch as I was torn apart in seconds. He escaped tho and have never been near gold since not even in real life. I AM SCARD FOR LIFE.

Damnit, you know when someone say's something that makes you go 'Doh!' I knew each of those individual points...and hadn't joined the dots lol
