Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Not to burst anyone's bubble but is Microsoft coming out with a latest greatest version to compete with X-Plane 11 or just upgrading their last version to work with newer computers? I haven't checked it out but being a aircraft simulation flying nerd I hope that they go with the latest greatest. If they do I have three sets of expensive helicopter flying controls for the PC someone could use. :)

I doubt they'd expend PR capital at E3 on a trailer for an upgrade of MS Flight, only with shiner graphics.

I really hope there's choppers, there.

But in the meantime, if you are a heli-nerd, have you played Take on helicopters? It's basically an indie game, with a really poor attempt on "story", but the choppers themselves feel great and there's freeroam so... actually my favourite chopper game.

I haven't played that but will look it up. I'm an expert at X-Plane helos and if they ever let you online sit in the right seat that could be awesome as well as real helo pilots flying a lot more than me. X-Plane has move on in the years with fly-ins including online traffic controller nerds we have to contact to enter into the pattern for landing using actual aviation communications used by real pilots. Let's see it Microsoft gets there.

An interesting point with X-Plane is that one can design any ship then fly it per the included design app. I wonder how many in X-Plane are flying an ED Python?

I’m wondering when they’re going to announce it’s going to be a Microsoft xCloud exclusive? :)

(Although that thought started off as a joke, I actually think it could be possible - all the awesome graphics with all the petabytes of a Google Earth style play area, on the best possible hardware, all you need is a decent web connection, a controller, and a screen to play it on. Will players go for it, though?)

If it's all dlc then will probably tank like Flight did.

It's not an "xCloud exclusive". But it uses the cloud computing for 3D modelling and texturing of all the juicy satellite data, so it's definitely an "always online" deal.

Oh it’s definitely always online, that’s apparent from the graphics.

The “xCloud exclusive” was a joke, hence the little smiling chap at the end and how I said “Although that thought started off as a joke...”

It’s got me wondering though whether I’d be willing to pay a monthly fee for the best experience - last year it’d be a definite “no”, but after a year of using Netflix and some fairly costly computer upgrades...I think I’m more open to the idea.

Microsoft should buy Frontier and give us ELWs, because this latest MSFS has an amazing ELW :D

I'd love to have the weather effects in Elite. That rain-on-the-canopy bit in the trailer was so cool.

The more I play the less I care about landable ELWs and the like.
But imagine how cool would it be if we could descend into gas giants' ionospheres or even stratospheres. Now THAT would be cool.

Like the Event Horizon, only with Thargoids instead of the embodiment of evil.

Been a fan since the C-64 days of Flight Sim and loved FSX. Since I only had the FSX on CD, I ended up wiping my hard drive a year back and have never gotten around to installing it again as I was low on room and all the millions of addons and AI planes and everything that needed to be installed (way too much work). Hopefully it'll be easy to get all those types of planes back for AI traffic and real airlines and stuff.

Also really hoping they have options for random failures and not the one where you'd have to specify a time range for a failure to happen or having to buy a 3rd party mod for it that wasn't cheap.

Be interesting to see how it is at least and hopefully will have a new hard drive that can store it when it does come out...

What bugs me most is how dated ED starts to look, how slowly it gets more life added, despite FD attempts to add more stuff with each update. Heck, we've had same ads in stations for years, only recently (relatively) FD added up a bunch of jpegs to that random array of pictures ads are taken from.

Seeing that trailer for new Flight Sim - one of the most exciting things is to see for me personally was cars/trucks on streets/highways, animals, cars in airports, people walking, etc. That's what makes it feel great already.

Especially when remembering amazing detailed yellow bus/car going around in ED stations with no purpose, at same distance, same speed, etc...

It's nice to judge from a couch, of course, but FD sometimes ads more completely new stuff, like 'scenarios' and such, however, instead ED would won amazingly if existing assets would get some enchantments, like people in stations, some flying taxis, smaller cargo shuttles, moving yellow cranes, cargo loading/unloading / etc. something to feel it less sterile and more alive.

I don’t think it has to do wit Elite graphics feeling “dated”. There is probably slim chance, event at present day or latest gen tech, that a procedurally generation based engine covering a whole galaxy can compete with an engine solely focused in a single planet including square inch coverage by actual satellite imaging and real cartography.
