Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

The more I play the less I care about landable ELWs and the like.
But imagine how cool would it be if we could descend into gas giants' ionospheres or even stratospheres. Now THAT would be cool.

Like the Event Horizon, only with Thargoids instead of the embodiment of evil.

I absolutely second this. On one hand alien ELWs (and procedural alien life) should be different/alien yet believable enough, which is IMHO simply impossible.
On the other hand, yes, I also want to see desolate alien worlds with unique lighting and towering clouds in the gas giants.

The more I look at the the better the Flight Simulator looks. I wonder how random places like my house will look like in it. :)

Time to join us in the 21st century. ;)
Seriously, though, from the looks of this game it's going to require a decent rig to run. Windows 7 is a fine OS, but if you've got a computer still running that I assume it's also got some dated hardware. Might wanna consider upgrading. If you're running Win7 on a modern rig I have to wonder why. Win10 is a fine OS as well.
I will never use Win 10. Tried it for 6 months and couldn't stand it anymore. Just too.........."annoying" for me to use. Win 7 runs great on my modern rig, Elite and everything else works just fine, for now. But I will be sad to see it die off. Might still keep an install of it around tho, like I do already with Win 98SE and XP on some retro machines I have. Linux tho is looking like my main OS for serious stuff from here on in. Plus, I have a ton of addons for FS2004 and FSX. There is still plenty of life left in the older sims yet. ;)

And Oh! As for the 21st century..............well, just look at my avatar. That will tell you what I think of the 21st century! :p

The problem with W10 is that it has a couple of annoying (online) features that you need to manually disable during installation and then in the various hidden corners of the system settings (there are walkthroughs). After that it's a great OS with a lot of added functionality compared to 7.
I also loved 7s and hesitated for years to switch over. But now that I did, I don't regret it.
And you... well, just like you had to abandon XP, you will be forced out of the 7s' comfort zone sooner or later. ;)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I see they updated the website... its sounding like they are really serious about bringing MSFS back! :)

They specifically say this game is a simulator, putting to rest any doubt there. They also own past 'missteps' in the series and thank fans for continued support.

Nice post of theirs. Classy. :)

No word on VR though. They could at least confirm it will not have it for some closure there.

Hopefully the next xbox has vr support and they announce it together.
Given the fact that the whole VR boom is slowly dying out, rather than "becoming a new standard", I'd be more inclined to believe that PS5 will ditch the VR than that the XBox will start supporting it.
From the official talks it looks like they are aiming for the higher resolutions and framerates instead

Eyetracking support for my Tobii 4C would be appreciated too ;)

I'll be happy with just my TrackIR.
I wonder if I would be able to find my TrackIR. Haven't used it for years. I think it may be at the bottom of some wardrobe still coiled around the baseball cap I bought just for it (I don't wear nor own caps or hats)

I will buy it for sure. As a recreational pilot IRL I've saved a fortune on training by practising instrument approaches with FSX, which I still use today. If the scenery is detailed enough, I can see FS2020 as a tool for checking out visual routes too before flying them for real.

But that aside, if the scenery is beautiful enough, it will be a fab experience. In reality, I'm never going to fly in South America, and very probably not in Alaska or North East Canada to Greenland either. I'll probably never get a mountain rating, or a twin rating, and as my acceptable risk profile rules out flying at night in a single, or over water out of gliding distance from land, there's lots of experiences that I'll never have, so with some big monitors FS2020 will be the next best thing. Very much looking forward to it.

For every PC I've ever owned (from my first 286 running at a blistering 8 Mhz) to my current PC, I've owned Flight Simulator 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10. I had given up on FSX due to bugs with the log book not recording more than 5 or 6 flights (just delete it off the HD and it'll be re-created and everything works fine - until the 5th or 6th flight is recorded then the same problem crops up). With Silent Hunter 4, Skyrim, Train Simulator and now ED, I just didn't have the time for it. When I upgraded the OS from Win XP to Win7, I just didn't bother installing FSX again, though I still have the disks). I was really sad to see that FSX was the last one they'd ever make.

Hearing that they've resolved a lot of issues and that they've decided to bring it back even better than before, I may get this again. Sometimes it's nice just to fly and watch the ground go by.
