As the game world is rendered and only based on satellite data, this will hoppefully be easily rectified by the AI. I hope so, at least. Some clever fellow identified a potential problem with MFS, in that they are using Bing map images for their ground textures (awesome) but this introduces photographed shadows that don't like up with the proper time of day, often resulting in two shadows - one from the actual photo, and the other being the simulated shadows.
Perhaps they can use AI to remove shadows from those original photos.
Is this one of those "Anybody who registers gets a copy" deals, or is a there a screening process? Anyone in this forum actually have it yet?If you go to the website you can register for testing.
Well, I signed up. They didn't check anything, simply sent me a welcome email. So I guess anybody can join in. Maybe it's time-limited.Is this one of those "Anybody who registers gets a copy" deals, or is a there a screening process? Anyone in this forum actually have it yet?
As it's Microsoft I would imagine a screening process will happen. Is this one of those "Anybody who registers gets a copy" deals, or is a there a screening process? Anyone in this forum actually have it yet?
They screen you, I'm on board. Is this one of those "Anybody who registers gets a copy" deals, or is a there a screening process? Anyone in this forum actually have it yet?

Its called Tech Alpha, there's questions and you upload your dxdiag.
It might have to grab the relevant data from Bing Maps.According to Fdev pre-beta, Elite was playable offline as well.
Plans change and MS could just as well find out that a game that is designed with cloud in mind from the get go is REALLY hard to convince to running offline well enough. Just sayin'...
But yeah. I imagine they are thinking of letting us download a certain area (or flight path corridor) and play within that area offline, which I think is doable but also a bit inconvenient, especially if it means dowloading several GB of maps prior to "going offline", every time. Because there is no way they will let us store any significant portion of the map locally. How much did they say is the whole Earth? 2 petabytes?
It might take some getting used to. The last MS flight sim is on Steam, pretty cheap. That might serve.Do they require you to be a seasoned pilot, or can a relative newbie join in?
New is fine, they like previous players of flight simulator games for testing but open to all of course too.Do they require you to be a seasoned pilot, or can a relative newbie join in?
I sold my Ms flight Sim x and the combat add on acceleration but still have vanilla X and it still runs without the disc.It might take some getting used to. The last MS flight sim is on Steam, pretty cheap. That might serve.
on the site it said that there will be an offline mode but you'll have to download data depending on what kind of resolution you want of it. It's proc gen too.It might have to grab the relevant data from Bing Maps.

A pic from E3:

Don't think the Tech Alpha is right away, they probably want a good spread of hardware to test across.Yeah, I completed the questions and submitted by DX Diag results but have not heard anything back about being accepted for the Tech Alpha so I dont think I was successful.
It's likely my old box won't cut it.Don't think the Tech Alpha is right away, they probably want a good spread of hardware to test across.
Patience grasshopperYeah, I completed the questions and submitted by DX Diag results but have not heard anything back about being accepted for the Tech Alpha so I dont think I was successful.
