Shall we take bets whether or not Mole uninstalls it again? :p
😱

I'm not going through this lot again...I'd buy another SSD if I need the space that much before I'd go through the purgatory of downloading it again...I've still got the CP2077 download to get through before the year is out :censored:

I've got a spare 6TB of NVME/SSD space left...I reckon I can fit CDPR's worst efforts in :D

Yeah... I think my biggest problem with jets is the huge difference in airspeed and throttle control (I don't have a HOTAS). So basically overspeeding after take-off, and stalling during approach as I slow down too much, too early (which caused the crash last night). Need more practice and maybe read up on the various speeds one needs to follow during these procedures.
The V Speeds are critical for turbine powered aircraft. Reaction times are longer than piston aircraft.

I had my instrument dimmer for MSFS set to one of the small additional rotaries (why on earth won't this forum let me type k.n.o.b.s?) on the base of my X56 throttle...I bound the function there since I use it for the same thing in IL2...The other matching rotary I use for the reflector sight dimmer...not a lot of use in MSFS of course...but I've never found another logical use for either of them.

After the hysteric fit I had after my Covid-19 test, Juniper's voice kept scolding me in my head.

So, I went to my Microsoft account, and got the $1/month pass.

Getting the X-Box launcher to work, and downloading the monster took about ten hours.

It does run, with the occasional lag, on the low settings. Learning the most vital keys took about an hour, after some Latvian-level mistakes.

Overall review: It's MS Flight Sim X, with much better graphics for the aircraft.

I tried about a dozen aircraft last night. I cheated, and took off from UK fields twice. Here is where MSFS 2020 breaks down: The Bing generated-terrain.

The ground mesh was fine. The terrain detail was erratic. It thought the Missouri river ran in an elevated canal, and then waterfalled into the Mississippi. Details from over 5 NM were not visible (possibly due to the low graphics settings). It did read the names off of two buildings in my area of St. Louis- two years out of date. I was able to buzz my apartment building, fly through the Arch, and re-visit the area around RAF Bentwaters (it's not a field in the game). The only way I could keep track, with the procedurally generated structures, was the shapes of the water bodies. I found Felixstowe, Harwich, and Ipswich this way.

After flying around on my nostalgia trips, I found that the old, reliable 172 was may favorite bird. Easy to fly, simple, and a great way to sightsee at 103 KIAS/2500 FT MSL.

The small aircraft and seaplanes were interesting, but I didn't feel the views compensated for the lack of familiarity with the aircraft. The jets were not a problem, but I was a manager, not a pilot, when flying them.

The whole point of the game, for me, is buzzing around VFR. I think I'll get a few hours out of it, until the pass expires.

I'm kinda of the same mind. I took one look at the excellent MCDU/ILS tutorial video from the Airbus pilot guy...decided that was more like being an accountant than a pilot and just looked out of the window instead :)

I've never worked out how anyone can have proper situational awareness when their face is stuck to an MFD and pressing buttons...maybe also why I would completely fail as a modern day pilot ;)

MS FS 2020 is flyable at medium settings with minimal hitches in frame rates on a quad-core i5 CPU with 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1080 GPU.
Running MS FS 2020 my PC is using 95+% available RAM.
Bad hitching on high and ultra settings.
I just purchased a quad-core i7 CPU (the fastest my MOBO can handle), 16 more GB RAM (my MOBO's max is 32) and a new 1 TB SSD to replace the 500 GB one. Looking forward to hopefully flying on High or Ultra graphics settings.
I could've replaced the whole PC with a much nicer rig but, $4000 vs. $400 = easy choice with $$ left over for a nice 4k monitor.

And so it begins...

I did it! I took off from Oberhausen Airfield from Where Eagles Dare! BANGBANGBANG! TATATATATAT!

Actually the ICAO identifier is LOXA, in Austria, and the field's real name is Eigen, but what the hell...

I was flying the Diamond, for the view. It started complaining about running the prop over 2400 RPM.

I, of course, was heads down when I crashed into the big mountain. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood were not pleased. :(

7700k gang here too, it is perfect for the sim. :) With 1080ti and 16gb RAM, I have some headroom above high-end at 1440p, so I just tweaked the settings a bit, bumped the clouds to ultra as well as terrain and objects LOD to 130. Reduced ambient occlusion and reflection effects though - will see tomorrow how smooth it will run.

Diamond is a weird little plane, I tried the DA40 NG. Views are cool, but to my untrained skills the engine feels weak and the plane lacks the low speed ability to match the lack of power unlike the Cessna. Also, it happened twice during flight that the flaps were deployed, I consider it a bug... so I swapped to the SR-22 today and that one packs a real punch, views are compromised somewhat though. Once I don't need the speed and ceiling, I'll try the Extra, the Virus and the JMB VL-3.

Heads-up for those on the Balkan tour: the destination on Leg 13 is a strip of grass surrounded by farmlands. Not easy to spot at all! Fortunately an aerial shot of the landing strip and the surrounding area is provided for each leg so you can figure it out before arriving.

Small issue though: the strip ain't in the picture. It all farmland, every bit of it. 😂

The JMB VL-3 is slowly earning it's place as my personal favorite among the single engine light props.

It sure is a great plane!

In case you hadn't settled yet on a 4k model, I got the LG 48CX and it's an absolute next-level experience. 4k@120Hz (with next gen cards, else you chose between 60@4:4:4 or 120@4:2:0), near-instant response time, perfect black and contrast ratio, Freesync Premium and GSync Certified. It's truly a game-changer.

Flew out of all my old US bases, and buzzed around. Had two close encounters during my Nellis run- got overconfident in climbing over Frenchman's Peak, and nearly faceplanted into the Boulder Dam. Buzzed my apartment again, and my friend's houses. The novelty wears off after a while. This may be a problem for the game, later.

The procedural generation is still waaay behind. They are using datasets as old as two years ago.Where is Google Maps when you need it? (Yes, I know there are third party add-ons)

I will experiment with all the small aircraft. I'll try Askavir's suggestion, next.
