Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Yup my enthusiasm is waning a lot, conversely Project cars 3 which initially disapointed me as I'm more a hardcore simmer could fill the void nicely with a mix of sim/simcade (god I hate that term tho!!).

We'll always have Project Cars 2 :)

If you're looking for a nice a nice sim/arcade mix, leaning more into sim, Forza Horizon 4 is pretty nice, tons of highly customizable cars, from regular everyday cars to exotic, and a huge free roaming map.

The only downside is that during free roam you need to drive on the left lane, unless you're from UK in that case it's a plus.

Yup big fan of PC1+2, was part of the original "community" testing builds of PC1, real eye opener for me regarding game development. PC3 could be as good, it's jusyt that most marketting seems to be aimed at console racer (simcade) style. They do say the "sim" stuff is all still there.

Got the Demo of FH4 and I like it a bit, it's just a bit too "millenial" for me with all the background nonsense, also I managed to get an Impreza for a race and it handled worse than the previous Audi TT I had...just no! Graphics are excellent, I'm in UK so driving there was no issue with driving side! (mind you I'm multi drive side as I play ETS2/ATS!). Didn't like the Forza 7 demo either....I'm just not into the no quali, start last have 3 laps to win simcade gameplay.

I found getting a decent gamepad set-up for PC2 to be nigh impossible - making me realise what an incredible job the GT series on Playstation had done. Even thought I got PC2 very cheap in the end I regretted spending the money and time trying to get a usable set-up. That the developers make specific note that PC3 will be more gamepad friendly clearly shows they know the setup of 2 was 'not very good'. Pity they didn't bother to fix it.

Forza Horizon 4 sounds good - I did toy with buying it.

Let's hope taxiing in MSFS isn't as arduous as either!

Me either. I like to have free practice, qualli and then the race.

During development of PC1 is was clear it was a harder task than many give credit for, although since I cannot use my wheel anymore for a couple of reasons I've played PC2 on a pad and it's really good cmpared to PC1, I just used base settings. Way better than ACC IMO in that regard. But it's usually down to personal preference, what works for some does not work for others.

As long as it's at least not as hard as taxiing in IL-2, I'll already be happy :)

When MSFS finally releases, I'm not even sure what area of the world I want to explore first... I'm making a list, which is pretty long so far already.

I'm also curious about what the business model is going to be this time... If the game already comes with the entire highly detailed world with all the airports (which is awesome), I guess they will make money selling aircraft. Which is nice, as it would mean there will be a lot of detailed aircraft for sale.

I just found the controls way too twitchy. Shame really, it looked promising. Just not for me - back to GT!

Agreed on all fronts! I believe the third-party developers are 'on board', so I suppose MS will get a license fee from them, but I'm also intrigued to see how they price the game (?game/experience/sand pit).

I just hope that EdTracker works seamlessly.

I'm on the Tobii Eye Tracker camp myself, but I fully understand you, I can no longer play any flight sim without a functioning neck! :)

I hope support for this stuff comes out of the box. But as even the previous MSFS X had it, so no reason to expect it won't have it now.

I've got a folder full of gameing notes on my varous games, I still have a section for FSX with notable world buildings/monuments etc (usual stuff Statue of Liberty, Stone henge, Pyramids...I'm not original LOL!) and the nearest real world airports that were in the game and with notes on heading and distance, pretty much found everything (couple of A4 sheets!). I'll be using that with MSF!

I'm a real world volcanophile, so I'm eager to start my imaginary tourist airline "Volcanair", taking imaginary tourists around dozens of real world volcanic wonders, especially those still too far away for me to go there myself :)

Dayum I don't think I thought of "natural" stuff, of course that will look a smeg loads better in MSF than FSX! Just rememberd I did fly the grand canyon and Everest.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I've taken quite a big step back from the hype train for this as it's just taking soooooo loooooong to release. It's been a year already and they're still just talking alpha/beta and have no set release date, right?

With a 3D "real" earth at our disposal, whoever likes natural stuff, is in for a real treat. :) So far we only got colored heightmaps, MSFS 2020 will bring the real deal.

I remember when I first got X-Plane 11, which still is the top civil aviation sim out there, and immediately flew to what is to me the coolest place on earth I will surely never go anywhere near: the Nyiragongo volcano in the Congo DR.

To my disappointment, once I got there, instead of it's legendary 2km wide eerie crater featuring the largest permanent lava lake on planet earth, the top of the volcano was green and had trees on it... :ROFLMAO:

AFAIK there is yet no release date.

That thrustmaster joystick is a very badly disguised T16000M...

The throttle is nice for having independent engine controls, but lacks buttons.

I do love volcanoes and attempted to get on as many as I could. Due to bad weather, I couldn't reach Mt Yasur on Vanuatu - actually 'stuck' on Fiji, and re-booked the first leg of my return flight and saved the trip by spending 10 days in South Korea. :)
I am planning to travel to memorable destinations I've been to, and 're-do' the round the world trip I did 10 years ago.
Actually, I'd hazard a guess that there will be some real-world discoveries in MSFS which, all things considered, is pretty amazing.

Having said that, I do hope that there will be some real gameplay loops that give purpose and even community events like long distance 'racing' from A to B. If anything, weather will make it possible to make a difference in navigating the skies, manage fuel and reach a destination faster.
